Counting of prepoll and postal votes continued today in the Fleurieu based seats of Finniss and Hammond.

Another 11% of the vote in Finniss was counted today (58.4%. in total).

Liberal David Basham increased his lead, gaining an additional 1507 primary votes.

The ALP’s Amy Hueppauff added 656 to her total with Independent Lou Nicholson picking up an additional 444.

The South Australian Electoral Commission (SAEC) is still calculating the Two Party Preferred vote as being between Mr Basham (49.3%) and Ms Nicholson (50.7%).

However, if the ALP continue to have more primary votes than Ms Nicholson she will be eliminated from the count and the Two Party Preferred vote will swing between Labor and Liberal.

There are still more than 11 000 votes to be counted in the electorate with many potentially still to be delivered to the SAEC after many voters were had to quarantine as a result of COVID-19.

Postal votes need to arrive by 5pm tomorrow to be included in the count.

With 64.8% of the vote counted in neighbouring Hammond it looks certain that Adrian Pederick will hold his seat, despite a swing of 14.5% against him.

He now has 6682 primary votes, compared to 3729 votes for the ALP’s Belinda Owens and 2790 for Independent Airlie Keen.
