The Government has made all public transport free today to enable as many people as possible to attend the official proclamation of King Charles III on the steps of Parliament House at 2pm.

As a bonus this will also mean free transport for the thousands of people using the Seaford train line and bus services to visit the last day of the Royal Adelaide Show.

Multiple roads will be closed in the city ahead of the proclamation.

Premier Peter Malinauskus is encouraging South Australians to make the journey to North Tce and be part of a moment in history.

“This is an event we haven’t seen in South Australia for more than 70 years,” he said.

“The accession of a new monarch is significant.”

The event will also be live streamed on the SA Government Facebook page.

The state funeral for Queen Elizabeth will take place on Monday 19 September at 11am local time at Westminster Abby (7.30pm SA time).

Condolence books will be available to sign at Government House from 7am to 9pm until further notice.

A condolence book will also be available at the City of Onkaparinga Civic Centre at Noarlunga during this week.

City of Onkaparinga Acting Mayor Simon McMahon encouraged those whose lives the Queen had touched to reflect on her long and historic life, and to pay their respects if they wish.

“Queen Elizabeth II dedicated over 70 years of service to the Commonwealth since her ascension to the throne in 1952, which included a visit to our city in 1986,” he said.

“This is a sad time for our community, including those who met the Queen during her visit to Onkaparinga. Her Majesty’s legacy will be one of steadfast devotion.”
