The Willunga Farmers Market will be open tomorrow from 8am until 12 noon in their new large, open space at Willunga High School.

There will also be twilight markets on December 23 and 30 from 4pm.

Market Manager Jenny Mitton told ABC Radio Adelaide earlier this week that the stalls are very well spread out and patrons will be asked to wear masks even though the market is open-air.

Members of the market will also be shopping on behalf of families who are currently quarantining due to the recent COVID exposure at Willunga Primary School.

About 30 volunteers will be making sure locals unable to leave their homes can still access the fresh produce of the market.

Local MP Leon Bignell is asking South Australians to support the small businesses of Willunga, in what should be one of their busy trading weeks of the year.

“They’re open but have suffered from cancelations and reduced visitation because of a Covid case at the local school a week ago,” Mr Bignell said in a Facebook post.

“It’s safe to visit Willunga and it’s one of Australia’s quaintest villages, full of the loveliest people.”

“It has stunning gift shops, great cafes, three pubs, three tap houses, a pharmacy, butcher, health professionals, hairdresser and so much more.

“Willunga is only 45 minutes from the city. So why not come down for a drive. The local business operators and their workers would really appreciate that.

“It’s never good to see people doing it tough. Especially not in the lead-up to Christmas.

Please share the word and do what you can to help everyone out. For locals in isolation many of the shops are offering phone and email orders and they will deliver.”

Hundreds of people were directed to quarantine after it was confirmed that a person with COVID-19 attended an all-school assembly at Willunga Primary on the last day of the term.

Since then SA Health has also released details of local bus routes and times that are also exposure sites and directed people not at the school assembly but who were at school earlier in the week to also quarantine.
