The Goolwa based Wildlife Welfare Organisation needs more volunteers for their rescue centre after experiencing their busiest year yet.
The WWO attends injured and distressed wildlife across the Fleurieu and says they helped over 1200 animals last year, their largest ever yearly number of rescues.
They are looking for volunteers who are aged 18 or over, can commit to at least one full 8-hour shift in Goolwa per week, are comfortable handling birds and lizards and preparing animal food that includes meat and frozen food animals.
Volunteers will also need to have a South Australian licence and be willing to transport animals around the Fleurieu using their own car and fuel.
They will also need to have received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Interested people should send an email to [email protected] outlining their experience and why they would be a good fit for the organisation.
As an example of their work, most recently the WWO has rescued a Pacific gull with a hook stuck near its eye, an orphaned possum, a sulphur-crested cockatoo tangled in netting, a yellow-tailed black cockatoo hit by a car and a young kangaroo with an injured leg.
The WWO can be contacted 24 hours a day, seven days a week for assistance with injured or ailing wildlife on 0434 114 628.
They also operate the Wildlife Welfare fundraising shop at 15 Hutchinson Street in Goolwa.
