Bremer/Callington won their third game of the season on Saturday to sit just a game outside the top-four after eight rounds in the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association (AEHCA). The Cobras won the toss and invited their visitors Hahndorf to bat first. The Magpies were in early trouble at 4/47 before Andrew Baker (40) and Lachlan Huxtable (50) added 67 runs for the fifth wicket. Hayden Knappstein (35) then joined Huxtable in a 55-run stand for the sixth wicket as the Magpies recovered to post a competitive total of 189. Paul Allegretto also made 32 opening the batting for Hahndorf. Cobras vice-captain Nathan Fitzgerald continued his good recent form to take 4/20 (8). Graydon Brand also picked up four wickets as he finished with 4/31 (8). Bremer/Callington got off to a good start with Dhanushka Abeynayake (35) and Johnny Fitzgerald (17) putting on an opening stand worth 49 runs. Shannon Howie (39), Nathan Fitzgerald (35) and Alex Durbidge (24) got the Cobras within sight of victory as things got very tense. Bradley Clements (9) and Daniel Lowe (1 not out) managed to hang on and get their side over the line off the last ball of the match. Nairne consolidated their place in the top-four with a comfortable 80-run win against Woodside. The Razorbacks batted first and had plenty of handy contributors including Mitch Hein (35), Shane Kenney (32) and Robert Crook (32) as they were bowled out for 169 in the 45th over. Five Woodside bowlers took wickets with Nick Johns (2/29), Shane Druwitt (2/34), Dale Robinson (2/36), and Harrison Reid (2/37) leading the way. The Warriors were in all sorts of trouble at the start of their run chase as they slumped to 3/12, with Nairne opening bowler Brodie Clarke taking all three wickets on the way to the excellent figures of 4/16 (6.1). Chris Baschiera (19) and Noah Bell (15) battled hard for Woodside but they were eventually bowled out for 89 in the 30th over. Nick Williams (3/25) and Jack May (2/9) were the other multiple wicket takers for the Razorbacks.Strathalbyn also consolidated their spot near the top of the ladder with a professional six-wicket win in a match reduced to 37-overs per side at Macclesfield. The Redbacks batted first and struggled to get any real momentum going during their innings. ‘Maccy’ skipper David Caddy played a lone hand for his side, top scoring with 60 (6 x 4’s, 1 x 6). No other Redbacks batsman reached 15 with their total of 150 boosted by a whopping 34 extras gifted by the Stallions. Five Strathalbyn bowlers took wickets including Jake Beerenfels (3/25), Mark Abbott (2/14), Brayden Gaiter (2/23) and River Berden (2/25). ‘Strath’ started their innings well with Jamarley Daley (35) and Luke Cousins adding 57 runs for the first wicket. Strathalbyn v Redsox - Under 14 Mixed SoftballRedsox started strong in defence with three strike outs, mixed amongst a couple of walks that allowed only two runs across the plate. Charlie Askew took to the pitching stripe, pitching to Poppy Groom, and together they also achieved three K2s, after the first four batters got on base and made it around to score. At the bottom of the first inning, just two runs separated the teams. In the second inning, Redsox’s experience in the field paid off and they were able to tag out two of Strath’s base-runners. Tallera Spinks was left just short of second base, and Eva Eglitis was tagged out at home.  Tallera then tried her hand at pitching, and tried hard to get the ball through the zone. Redsox took advantage of the strikes with a couple of great outfield hits, including a deep centrefield hit that was chased down by Poppy now in left field. The inning ended with seven runs in for Redsox, with no extra runs for Strathalbyn.The third and final inning saw Strathalbyn disciplined in the batters box and get through the entire line up to also bring in seven runs. As time drew to a close, Redsox managed one run and one out before time and game was called with Redsox not needing to complete their turn at bat with a safe three run lead. The final result was Redsox 12 defeated Strathalbyn 9.

Bridgewater won their first game of the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) season with a comfortable eight-wicket win over Mylor in a match reduced to 40 overs at Bridgewater Oval yesterday. Mylor won the toss and decided to bat first and were in early trouble at 2/12, before Alex Kern (17) and Ben James came together to add 68 runs for the third wicket. James went on to top score with 45 (81 balls). Tight bowling from the Raiders restricted Mylor to 9/131 from their 40 overs. Luke Hoyle (2/5), Jarrad Tait (2/17) and Caleb Risson (2/34) were the multiple wicket takers for Bridgewater. The Raiders lost Hoyle (4) early, but skipper Justin Summerill and Will Fearnhead put the game beyond doubt with a 116-run second-wicket stand. Summerill top scored with 67 (101 balls), while Fearnhead finished on 43 not out (69 balls) as Bridgewater won with more than eight overs to spare. Mount Lofty continued their undefeated start to the season with a comprehensive 94-run win against reigning premier Stirling at Heathfield. The game was reduced to 35 overs per side with the Redcaps batting first. Mount Lofty had a number of contributors with Adam Carthew (54 from 53 balls) leading the way. He was well supported by Josh Healey (45) and Nick Justice (32) as the home side posted 5/169. Veteran Stirling all-rounder Julian Zytnik was the pick of the bowlers with 2/22 (7). The Eagles were never in the hunt in their run chase as they were bundled out for just 75 in the 29th over. Pete Fryer top scored with 15 (35 balls). Peter Giannes was the leading wicket taker for the Redcaps as he captured the fine figures of 4/15 (7). Carthew completed an excellent all-round game with 3/8 from 3.3 overs.Aldgate won their third game of the season with a comfortable 58-run win with the game being played at Meadows. The game was reduced to 30 overs per side with the ‘Gaters’ batting first and posting 5/170. Josh Callaghan (34) and skipper Jake Turnbull added 72 runs for the second wicket before Frank Clements joined Turnbull at the crease. Turnbull went on to score 57 from 61 balls, while Clements remained unbeaten on 57 (44 balls). Simon Parker took 4/36 (6) for the Demons. Peter Wilson (33) was the only Uraidla batsman to pass 20 as Uraidla finished their 30 overs on 7/112. Luke Smet (3/33) and Matty Hansen (2/8) were the main wicket takers for Aldgate.Kangarilla consolidated their spot in the top-four with an eight-wicket victory against Scott Creek Ironbank (SCIB) at Cherry Gardens. Unfortunately the weather played a major role on Saturday during round seven action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA). Two matches got underway but didn’t finish, while the Stirling/Aldgate and Meadows/Scott Creek Ironbank matches were abandoned without a ball bowled. Reigning premier Stirling have played just two matches through the opening seven rounds!Kangarilla hosted Mount Lofty and the match was evenly poised when rain struck late in the day. Mount Lofty batted first and were soon in deep trouble as they slumped to 4/15. The returning Tim Noble and Brad Hutton (13) got the innings back on track with a 41-run stand for the fifth wicket. Noble continued on to top score with 64 from 109 balls (4 x 4’s, 1 x 6) as the Redcaps battled their way to 9/136 from their 45 overs. Jason Zecchin (13) and Peter Giannes (11) added valuable support to Noble late in the innings. Five Kangarilla bowlers took wickets with skipper Che Martinsen the standout. ‘Cheech’ snared 3/15 from his nine-over spell and he was well supported by Steve Featherstone (2/41). ‘Kangies’ got themselves to 4/91 in the 32nd over before rain halted play with the home side needing 46 runs to win. Regular Redcaps wicket-keeper Josh Healey took to the bowling crease for the first time this season and took 2/8 (5) to be the leading bowler for Mount Lofty.Bridgewater were searching for their first win of the season as they hosted Uraidla at Bridgewater Oval. The Raiders batted first and were in early trouble at 4/64, with Will Fearnhead the best of the top order batsmen with 30 from 38 balls (3 x 4’s, 1 x 6). Enter Peter Atkins who dominated the innings with a hard-hitting 74 not out from 71 balls. Atkins’ innings included two boundaries and a whopping eight sixes! Atkins added 92 runs for the seventh wicket with Thomas Miller. Miller made 46 from 41 balls (4 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s) as Bridgewater posted 8/198 from their 45 overs. Seven Uraidla bowlers took wickets with Mitch Makings (2/31) the multiple wicket taker for the Demons. It was another rain interrupted day during round seven action in the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association (AEHCA) with just two matches completed on Saturday. Macclesfield won their third game of the season with a nail-biting one-wicket win against Bremer/Callington at Callington. The home side batted first with all of their top-six batsmen reaching double figures. No Cobras batsman went on with it though, as Alex Durbidge top scored with 18, while Nathan Fitzgerald was left stranded on 17 not out, with the Cobras losing their last 6/13 to be bowled out for 107. Kieran O’Connell (4/13) and Connor Moore (3/15) were the chief destroyers for the Redbacks. Macclesfield started well to reach 1/52 with O’Connell (21) and Moore (20) continuing their good games. Josh Lewis-Burns added 22, but ‘Maccy’ collapsed to 9/99 and the Cobras looked set to pull off an amazing victory. Rowan Voogt (8 not out) and Ben Matthews (2 not out) held their nerve to get their side over the line in the 35th over. Daniel Lowe (3/15), Graydon Brand (3/27) and Nathan Fitzgerald (2/14) were the best of the Bremer/Callington bowlers.Langhorne Creek remained undefeated after a comfortable eight-wicket win at home against Hahndorf. The visitors batted first and were no match for the Tigers’ opening bowler Troy Blackwell, who snared the great figures of 6/21 from his nine overs. Just two Hahndorf batsmen reached double figures with Ryan Trafford-Walker (17) and Benny Montgomerie (12) the leading scorers. Brodie O’Dea was the other multiple wicket taker for Langhorne Creek with 2/7 (4.4). The Tigers wasted no time in the run chase as they brought up the win in just the 15th over. Daniel Kropp continued his excellent season with 42 not out from just 29 balls (2 x 4’s, 1 x 6). On the first Friday night game for the season, Strathalbyn were up to bat first and even though they got batters on to base, Hahndorf quickly shut them down with an out at first and two K2’s to the pitcher/catcher combination of Peyton Daniels to Chloe Davis sending them from the diamond scoreless. Hahndorf’s first turn at bat was three up/three down with a K2 to start the game for Tessa Norris to Kim Cutting followed by Cutting quickly getting on to a bunt and throwing to first to beat Davis there, and Britt Jackson taking a catch at third.The second batting dig for Strathalbyn was much better with a couple of walks and safe hits to Taminka Wilks, Chloe Zakelj and Kathryn “Buttsy” Milne. Norris put down a great bunt which brought in a total of six runs with Hahndorf making an out at first and two K2’s to end the innings. ‘Strath’ held Hahndorf to one run in their second turn at bat but Zoe Young had a safe hit and Mia Oats-Willis had a big two baser before the Panthers could get them out after an infield fly, a great running catch taken at right field by Jordarna Wilks, and a catch taken by Norris.'Strath' was patient in the box and chose their pitches well in the third and had safe hits to J.Wilks, Emily Eglitis and Ashlee Peterson. Jarrah Taylor, Zakelj and Cutting all had two basers and Norris had her first home run for the season which all helped to bring in eleven runs with Hahndorf working hard in the field with another out at first, a catch taken at left field by Charlotte Fairley and a great running catch taken at centrefield by Young to end the innings. Strathalbyn allowed Hahndorf one run to Michelle Davis after she had a safe hit and then overthrows let her progress to home before they regrouped and worked well together with Peterson fielding cleanly at second and throwing to Milne at first, Peterson taking a catch and Norris and Cutting getting a K2 to end the innings and the game with Strathalbyn coming out on top 17 runs to Hahndorf 2.

The weather won the day on Saturday after day two of all round four games were washed out in the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA). The big winners for the round were Goolwa and Port Elliot, who had already secured first-innings victories against Mount Compass and Aldinga respectively, while the other three matches were drawn.Round five begins this Saturday (19/11), with another round of two-day games. Goolwa skipper Jayden Crees bowled his side to a first innings victory on day one of the Magpies’ clash with Mount Compass at Burgess Oval, during round four action in the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) on Saturday. Crees took the astonishing figures of 8/11 from 14.1 overs (10 maidens) as his side routed Mount Compass for just 37. Goolwa made short work of the target with Sam Carlyle (30), Jesse Consalvo (23), Kingsley Vincent (18), Andy Evans (16 not out) and Luke Giddings (16) all getting starts. Aaron Dalitz hit back for Mount Compass with 6/18 (11), while Joel Webber chipped in with 2/30, as Goolwa were dismissed for 132. Mount Compass had five overs to get through before stumps and finished on 1/14, still needing a further 81 runs to make the Magpies bat again. It was no surprise, after the day he’d already had, that Crees (1/3) took the only wicket to fall to give him nine scalps on the day.Port Elliot also claimed first innings points on day one of their clash with Aldinga at Port Elliot. Aldinga batted first and were skittled for just 45 in the 32nd over. Ashley Pellatt (24) was the only Aldinga batsman to reach double figures. Ben Martin (4/5), Simon Donaldson (3/14) and Tyson Somerfield (2/9) were the leading wicket takers for the home side. Port Elliot got on with the run chase quickly with Finn Hayden and Hayden Gordge putting on 87 runs in just 12 overs before the innings was declared closed with 26 overs still left in the day. Teenager Hayden made his maiden ‘A’ grade half century with 52 not out (7 x 4’s, 1 x 6), while Gordge finished with 29 not out. Aldinga fared better in their second dig as they reached 3/49 at stumps, a lead of just seven runs heading into day two this Saturday. Rob Lishmund opened the batting and safely negotiated his way to stumps with 16 not out for Aldinga.The match between Yankalilla and reigning premier Willunga is evenly poised after day one action at Willunga Oval. Yankalilla batted first and were in early trouble at 3/31 before Doug Jones was joined at the crease by Aaron Smith.
