For the first time in its history Finniss will not be a safe Liberal seat.
However, it will be some time before the final result is known, with the electorate recording the highest number of postal and pre-poll votes in the state.
These votes will not be counted until Monday.
Sitting Liberal Member David Basham went into this election with a 14.5% margin but current counting shows a 19.2% swing against him.
That swing is split between Independent Lou Nicholson and the ALP’s Amy Heuppauff.
Currently Mr Basham has 36.9% of the first preference votes, the ALP has 23.5% and Lou Nicholson 22.9%.
Goolwa based Ms Nicholson ran a strong local campaign, urging voters to elect a independent member to avoid the seat being taken for granted.
ALP candidate Amy Heuppauff was much less visible during the campaign but has benefited from the state-wide swing to Labor.
The Fleurieu App will continue to provide updates as the count progresses.

Mawson
Before the election Mawson was one of the state’s most marginal seats, held by Leon Bignell with just a 0.7% majority.
At the end of Saturday night's count Mr Bignell is recording a huge 14% swing to him.
At this point, he has recorded the highest primary vote at all booths in the electorate with the exception of Parawa, the Liberal candidate Amy William’s home turf.
Mr Bignell was a prominent figure during the Kangaroo Island bushfires and a strong advocate for the community.
His campaign focused strongly on local issues and he used social media extremely effectively.
Mr Bignell was a minister in the Weatherill Labor Government.

Hammond
Sitting Member Adrian Pederick held this seat with a 16.9% margin going into the election.
The swing against him (at the end of counting last night) was 10.3%.
Independent candidate Airlie Keen currently has 17.5% of the first preference votes, the ALP’s Belinda Owens 22.7% and Adrian Pederick has 38.2%.
These are strong showings by both the ALP and Independent candidates in Hammond, which has been a safe home for Mr Pederick for many years.
However it seems he will be returned (with a much reduced margin) for a fifth time.
