Normanville Caravan Park $6.1M makeoverAn example of the style of cabin to be built

The District Council of Yankalilla has revealed the design and configuration of the 23 new single-story cabins to be constructed at the Jetty Caravan Park as part of the Normanville Foreshore and Jetty Caravan Park Masterplan.

Over $6.1M will be spent on the cabins and other improvements at the park, including fire hydrants, electricity upgrades, fencing, landscaping and recreational amenities.

The project is paid for (in equal parts) by the council, state and federal governments.

Three of the cabins will have full disability access. In total six different cabin styles will be built including family cabins and open-plan studios.

The first cabins are due to be delivered to the site during the July - September quarter of this year.

District Council of Yankalilla CEO Nigel Morris says that the cabin configurations were selected with the view of offering choice, convenience and quality accommodation, but also affordability.

“It’s important to note that the Jetty Caravan Park is a Council-owned establishment,” he says.

“The new cabin designs were finalised with one overarching thing in mind and that is to increase revenue generation from the asset for the benefit of rate-payers."

“The 23 new cabins add tremendous value to our area masterplan and ultimately to the economy of our community as a whole.”

Mr Morris says statistics from the Caravan Park Industry Association of Australia show that for every dollar of caravan park income generated in Australia, $1.38 of local economic activity is generated.

“All cabins will be single storey with elevations kept to a minimum with a maximum height of 50cm, as requested by residents during Council’s community consultation process.

Mr Morris says council is confident that the Cabin Project will be successful, generate revenue for the community and add, “significant economic value,” to surrounding local businesses.

The Cabin Project is one element of the District Council of Yankalilla’s overall Normanville Foreshore and Jetty Caravan Park Masterplan, which also comprises a combined new rebuild of the Surf Club and Kiosk, carparking, green space (lawns), nature play playground, dune restoration, beach interface and accessibility upgrades.
