Promise to upgrade Rapid Bay water infrastructureThe disused old Rapid Bay Jetty partially collapsed in January

The State Liberal Government says it will spend $126 800 to upgrade the water infrastructure at Rapid Bay.

The project will include a new water storage tank, pipe infrastructure and a water treatment facility.

Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development David Basham said the project will receive $63,400 from the Marshall Liberal Government’s Regional Growth Fund – Opening our Great Outdoors.

“Rapid Bay is a hidden gem of South Australia’s coastline and this upgrade will encourage more people to visit which will provide a boost to the tourism economy and create local jobs,” Minister Basham said.

“The Fleurieu Peninsula is an important drawcard in South Australia’s eco-tourism sector and by investing in better facilities we can further enhance this reputation.

“This project will turn Rapid Bay into a world-class diving destination which will encourage a more diverse demographic of visitors which could encourage further investment.

The old Rapid Bay Jetty partially collapsed on January 10.

The area around the jetty was off limits to divers and snorkelers for several weeks while the part that had collapsed was removed.

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport finished works on the disused jetty last week and removed the restrictions.
