The Southern Football League has banned all dogs (other than guide dogs) from its club grounds.

The League says all its clubs* (which include Aldinga, Christies Beach and Port Noarlunga) agreed to the new No Dog policy at a general board meeting on Monday.

It says as per the Recreation Grounds (Regulations) Act anyone bringing an unauthorised dog to the grounds can be fined up to $250.

Guide dogs can be taken on to the ground if they are on leads of 3 metres or less in length.

The league posted their decision on Facebook earlier this week and got an immediate reaction from local fans, many of whom expressed disappointment.

Some also queried the validity of the ban as the clubs’ grounds are owned by the City of Onkaparinga which has separate bylaws relating to dogs in public spaces.

*The Southern Football League is a different entity to The Great Southern Football League which is the home of the football clubs on the Southern Fleurieu and Willunga and McLaren Vale.
