State budget - what's in it for for the Fleurieu and KI?The Victor Harbor and Goolwa ambulance stations are to be rebuilt and upgraded as part of the 2022/23 state budget

State Treasurer Stephen Mulligan handed down his first budget yesterday, 2 June. 

 

So, what’s in it for the Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island?

 

Health

The government will add 278 more paramedics and 72 additional ambulance officers to the SA Ambulance workforce over the next four years.

 

During the election campaign the ALP promised an extra 12-person 24/7 paramedic crew would be stationed at Victor Harbor from 2024. It also promised a 12-person 24/7 paramedic crew would be based at Goolwa from 2025.

 

The Victor Harbor ambulance station will be completely rebuilt and expanded and the Goolwa station will be upgraded. 

 

$10M will be spent (over four years) to upgrade the Kingscote Hospital

 

Tourism

$4M over two years for the construction of the new visitor precinct on Cape Willoughby

 

An extra $45M over four years for interstate and international marketing to attract visitors.

 

Education

Yankalilla Area School will be one of 19 schools to share $26.6 million allocated for upgrades over the next two years

 

Transport and roads

Kangaroo Island residents will benefit from the reintroduction of the registration concession for owners of vehicles in remote regions.

 

Free travel for eligible seniors at all times on the Adelaide metropolitan transport system

 

$125M over two years for the full duplication of Main South Road between Seaford and Sellicks Beach, grade separation and road alignment at Aldinga Beach Road and overtaking lines between Myponga and Cape Jervis.

 

$2M in the 2023-24 financial year to upgrade the Noarlunga interchange, install a new escalator and improve lighting and security.

 

$15M of additional funding in the 2023-24 financial year for the upgrade of port infrastructure at Cape Jervis and Penneshaw (total project cost now $37M)

 

$416 000 (over four years) to investigate how to better integrate public transport in regional centres.

 

Community

$450 000 for a cultural mapping project around Mount Terrible at Sellicks Hill

 

Environment

$2.1M over four years to employ a Commissioner for the River Murray in South Australia
