Razorbacks barge into second spot in Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket

Nairne leapfrogged Lobethal into second spot on the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association (AEHCA) ladder after a low-scoring two-wicket win over the Tigers at Nairne Oval during round 14 action in the AEHCA on Saturday. Lobethal batted first and were in early trouble at 3/7, before Sam Graeber (38) and Tanner King (52) added 80 runs for the fourth wicket before Graeber was dismissed. From the relatively strong position at 3/87, the Tigers collapsed, losing their last 7/27 to be bowled out for 114. Left-arm spinner Matt Hein was the chief destroyer for Nairne with figures of 5/33 from his nine overs. He was well supported by brother Mitch (2/16) and Brodie Clarke (2/20). Nairne appeared to be cruising to victory with Shane Kenney (48) and Mitch Hein (13) taking the score to 2/70, before a collapse of 6/37 left the Razorbacks in a precarious position at 8/107. Thankfully for the home side, Zac Llewellyn (8 not out) and Matt Hein (5 not out) held their nerve to bring up the winning runs with 19 balls to spare. Mitch Weeks (2/12), Cameron Winen (2/23) and Dave Huxter (2/36) were the main wicket takers for Lobethal.Macclesfield kept their finals hopes alive with a comfortable 75-run win against Bremer/Callington at ‘Maccy’. Macclesfield batted first and posted a competitive 6/172 from their 45 overs. All-rounder Lachlan Barrett top scored with 54 not out, and he was ably supported by Kieran O’Connell (38) and Josh Lewis-Burns (33). Bremer/Callington were never in the run chase as they were bowled out for just 97 in the 25th over. Jai McMurtrie, with 48, was the only shining light with the bat for the Cobras. Six Redbacks bowlers took wickets with Joseph Lions (3/15), O’Connell (2/1) and Barrett (2/20) leading the way.Strathalbyn consolidated their spot in the top-four with a low-scoring 45-run win at Woodside. The Stallions batted first with vice-captain Matthew Harris making a crucial 51 from 94 balls (5 x 4’s). Mark Abbott (19) and Steve Schofield (18) made handy contributions as Strathalbyn struggled to 137 before being bowled out in the 44th over. Jeremy Druwitt (2/21), Shane Druwitt (2/29) and Nick Johns (2/38) were the leading wicket takers for the Warriors. Woodside were in all sorts of trouble in their run chase as they slumped to 5/47 before Will Dunstall (24) and Chris Baschiera (18) added 37 runs for the sixth wicket to get their team back in the game. The dismissal of Baschiera however, precipitated a collapse of 5/8 as the home side were bowled out for just 92 in the 33rd over. Lachlan Cutting (3/6) and Blake Beelitz (2/1) did the damage at the end of the innings for ‘Strath’, while skipper Brayden Gaiter dominated at the start with 3/15 from seven overs. The game between Hahndorf and Langhorne Creek was unable to be played at Mount Barker Summit due to the wet weather in the lead up to the weekend. Ladder - after round 14Langhorne Creek 50, Nairne 40, Lobethal 38, Strathalbyn 32, Macclesfield 26, Bremer/Callington 18, Woodside 16, Hahndorf 4. Round 15 fixtures (11/2/23) - home team named firstHahndorf v Bremer/CallingtonWoodside v Nairne Strathalbyn v Macclesfield Lobethal v Langhorne Creek

Hills Softball Association - Strathalbyn v Hahndorf (Under 14's)Hahndorf started strongly at bat, with discipline and successfully swinging at strikes to get a mixture of hits and walks. The inning started well for Strathalbyn’s defence with two early outs (a K2 and a put out to first). Charlie Askew pitched strongly to Lindsay Butler, and showed good ball control with the balls very close to the strike zone. But the morning showers proved a challenge and the rest of the batters walked. Hahndorf’s batting dig ended when their seventh run crossed home plate. At bat, Strath was hesitant to swing, which meant the first two batters walked to first, but the next three were out, with two strikeouts and a put out to first. As is often the case, Strath rallied in defence behind new pitcher Eva Eglitis pitching to Bailey Bradshaw. A flyball landing behind the pitcher was picked up by Meg Keenan to make a terrific tag out by Tellera Spinks at third base. Hahndorf made one safe hit and two more runs before Askew, now at first, lunged out from first base for a great catch before playing the base for a terrific double play. Strath were once again reluctant to swing the bat, which had the exact same result as the previous dig, a handful of walks, a put out and two strikeouts. In the final batting dig, Hahndorf continued their winning formula at bat (discipline at not swinging at balls, and connecting well when a strike was available) saw them bring in another seven runs. Highlights for Strath included great fielding in right field by Zoe Williams, almost making a put out to first. There were also some close attempts to defend stolen bases by Strath. The final score was Hahndorf 16 defeating Strathalbyn 5.

Former first-class cricketer Tom Plant was a big inclusion for Mylor and he played his part with 48 not out from 85 balls (4 x 4’s, 1 x 6) as the home team chased down Kangarilla’s paltry total of 81 in the 24th over. Plant was well supported by his opening partner Shane Maslin (29 not out) in an 82-run opening stand. Earlier, Kangarilla won the toss and elected to bat first with Che Martinsen and Carlos Venter adding 49 runs for the first wicket before Venter was dismissed for 21 (53 balls). Martinsen went on to top score with 34 (69 balls) but when he was dismissed, ‘Kangies’ lost 9/18 to be bowled out for 81 in the 36th over. Thomas Jensen bowled an excellent spell to finish with 4/15 (9) and he was well supported by Jesse Cooper (3/10) and Michael Warburton (2/22).Bridgewater won their second consecutive match following a five-wicket win over Mount Lofty at Heathfield on Saturday. The win puts the Raiders just one win outside the top-four with six rounds remaining in the season. Mount Lofty batted first and never got any momentum in their innings with Adam Carthew (34) the only Redcaps batsman to pass 20. It was the Raiders’ spinners that did all the damage with Justin Summerill (3/6) and Finn Sullivan-Llewellyn (3/17) sharing six wickets as Mount Lofty were dismissed for just 95. Bridgewater started their run chase in disastrous fashion as they slumped to 4/18, with Carthew doing most of the damage with 3/15 (6). Liam Sutcliffe (8) helped Jackson Hooper add 24 runs for the fifth wicket, but there was still plenty of work to be done at 5/42. Tom Miller (15 not out) joined Hooper in a crucial sixth-wicket stand worth 59 runs that saw Bridgewater get home in the 29th over. Hooper finished with 51 not out from 72 balls (4 x 4’s, 1 x 6). Stirling consolidated their spot in the top-four with a convincing seven-wicket win at Uraidla. The Demons batted first with Michael Parker (55 not out), and Tom Bassett (44) the mainstays in Uraidla’s innings of 7/167. Chris Shaw (2/35), Jack Read (1/8), Harrison Webb (1/15), and Jack Pick (1/36) were the wicket takers for Stirling. The Eagles got off to a great start with Daniel Gonzalez and Jack Read putting on 111 runs for the first wicket in just 14 overs, before Read went for a hard-hitting 62 from 39 balls (8 x 4’s, 4 x 6’s). Gonzalez went on to score 62 not out (73 balls) as Webb brought up the winning runs in the 25th over with a six! Tom Proctor (2/16) and Daniel McDonough (1/37) were the wicket takers for Uraidla.Meadows moved to the top of the HCA ladder after defeating Aldgate in a high scoring encounter at Aldgate Oval. The home side batted first with Shaun Atkins 78 not out (2 x 4’s, 7 x 6’s), Jake Turnbull 77 (5 x 4’s, 5 x 6’s), and Mitch Thomas 54 (7 x 4’s, 1 x 6) the leading lights as the ‘Gaters’ posted 4/251 from their 45 overs. Meadows skipper Rohan Reid was the pick of the Bulldogs bowlers with 2/16 from seven overs. Meadows were always ahead of the run rate in the chase, but at 4/130 a partnership was needed as Simon Bates joined Reid at the crease. This pair added 61 runs for the fifth wicket before Bates went for 35. Two more wickets fell as Meadows were 7/218 with 34 more runs required for victory. Reid was still at the crease as he brought up his hundred and then the winning runs with a six to see the Bulldogs to victory in the 43rd over. Reid finished on 124 not out (15 x 4’s, 5 x 6’s), his fourth century this season. Reid now has 664 runs at an average of 166 with six rounds remaining! Turnbull was easily the best Aldgate bowler with 2/28 (9), while Henry Brasher took 2/46 (7). Scott Creek Ironbank had the bye.Ladder - after round 12Meadows 45, Mount Lofty 42, Stirling 42, Aldgate 33, Kangarilla 33, Scott Creek Ironbank 30, Bridgewater 27, Mylor 18, Uraidla 18.Round 13 fixtures (28/1/23) - home team named firstAldgate v Mount LoftyScott Creek Ironbank v BridgewaterMeadows v UraidlaStirling v MylorKangarilla has the bye

Yankalilla pulled off an upset 86-run win against Noarlunga during round nine action in the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) yesterday. Yankalilla batted first and were in early trouble at 2/12 before Doug Jones and Luke Bartlett added 56 runs for the third wicket until Jones was dismissed for 33. Bartlett then put on 50 for the fifth wicket with Aaron Smith (15) before he was finally dismissed for 86 as ‘Yank’ finished with 6/162 from their 40 overs. Teenage opening bowler Harry Jackson was the leading wicket taker for the Shoes with 3/23 (6). Noarlunga’s run chase started in disastrous fashion with David Scarff bowled first ball of the innings by Ryan Borlace (1/13). Tim Dellatorre (3/25), Smith (2/6), and Ashley Madden (2/28) were the leading wicket takers for the Tigers as Noarlunga were dismissed for just 76 in the 24th over. Mason Parry (23) and Dale Parrish (19) were the only batsmen to reach double figures for the Shoes.Willunga won their second game of the season after defeating Aldinga by 41 runs yesterday. The reigning premier Demons batted first with their innings underpinned by a fine 86 not out (135 balls) from former skipper Luke Harding. James Whetstone (20) helped Harding add 53 for the second wicket before Simon Roberts came to the crease. This pair added 114 for the third wicket with Roberts making a quickfire 72 from 50 balls ( 5 x 4’s, 6 x 6’s) as Willunga posted 4/198 from their 40 overs. Brenton Averats was the best of the Aldinga bowlers with 3/33 (8). Aldinga battled hard to bat out their 40 overs, finishing on 7/157, with Robert Lishmund (44), Wade Sutherland (28), and Seamus O’Flaherty (24) all making good contributions. Roberts (2/11) and Harding (2/34) completed fine all-round games with a couple of wickets each.Port Elliot consolidated second position on the ladder with a 34-run win against Myponga-Sellicks at Myponga. Port Elliot batted first and battled their way to a competitive 8/143 after their 40 overs. The innings was set up by a 63-run stand between Joel Harris (32) and Ben Griffiths (25). Liam Harris also chimed in with 21. Five Mudlarks bowlers took wickets with Mitchell Farquhar (3/23) and Vince Nizzola (2/24) leading the way. Myponga-Sellicks got off to a good start with Michael Tomlinson (32) and Ryan Haverty (22) adding 50 for the second wicket, but that was as good as it got for the home side as they were restricted to 8/109 from their 40 overs. Port Elliot’s Riley Paull did plenty of damage through the middle order with 3/5 from four overs. Liam Harris was the other multiple wicket taker with 2/16 (6).Encounter Bay moved up to third spot on the ladder following their convincing six-wicket win over Mount Compass. ‘Compass’ batted first and they were soon in strife as they slipped to 5/29. Sam Hoffmann continued his good recent form as he hit a quick half century to help the Bays to victory after just 18 overs. Hoffmann, who made 94 not out last week, top scored with 57 from 48 balls (8 x 4’s, 1 x 6), while Cam Lintern made 17 not out (10 balls).Goolwa remained undefeated after accounting for McLaren Districts by nine wickets yesterday. McLaren Districts batted first and they started well with Justin Twartz (22), Jim Ryan (21) and Stephen Nairn (14) making solid contributions. There wasn’t much else to say about the rest of the innings as the Crushers were bowled out for 110. It was a good effort from the Goolwa bowling lineup with Jayden Crees (SA Country), Josh Jones (ill), and James Lawrence (injured) all missing. Kingsley Vincent (3/14), Dean Vickery (2/17), Josh Andrewartha (2/19), and Andy Evans (2/26) stepped up to bowl McLaren Districts out. Strathalbyn moved back inside the top-four following a tight 11-run victory over Bremer/Callington at Callington during round 11 action in the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association (AEHCA) on Saturday. The Stallions batted first with Luke Cousins (39 from 76 balls) the only batsman in the top-eight to reach double figures as ‘Strath’ slumped to 9/72. All appeared lost until number 11 Lachlan Cutting joined Kane Gaiter. This pair put on an invaluable last wicket partnership worth 52 runs with Cutting (2) surviving 25 balls before being dismissed. Kane Gaiter was the star with 46 not out from 83 balls (9x 4’s). Graydon Brand bowled an excellent spell to snare 4/8 (8), while Nathan Fitzgerald continued his great season with 3/18 (9). Alex Durbidge chimed in with 2/18 (5.5).The Cobras started solidly with a 26-run opening partnership between Johnny Fitzgerald (10) and Jai McMurtrie (30). Once the opening partnership was broken, steady wickets fell with Bremer/Callington in all sorts of trouble at 6/46. Jamesson Kelly (23) and Bradley Clements (18 not out) battled hard but ultimately the Cobras came up short, bowled out in the 30th over for 113. Skipper Brayden Gaiter took 4/31, giving him 21 wickets for the season, while Matt Abbott snared 3/34 (9). Nairne consolidated their position in the top-four with a comfortable 73-run win against Hahndorf at Nairne. The Razorbacks batted first and posted a solid total of 6/212 from their 45 overs with Robert Crook (59 from 82 balls), Brodie Clarke (54 not out from 66 balls) and Zac Llewellyn (39 from 42 balls) the main contributors. Former Razorback Michael Harden (2/49) was the only multiple wicket taker for the Magpies. Hahndorf battled hard but were never really in the run chase as they were bowled out in the 40th over for 139. Henry Hassold (25), Greg Hassold (23), and Henry Baker (20) were the only Hahndorf batsmen to reach 20. Six Nairne bowlers took wickets with left-arm spinner Nick Williams (3/14) the chief wicket taker. He was well supported by Chad Harrop (2/20) and Jack May (2/28). Langhorne Creek continued their undefeated season with a convincing seven-wicket win at home against Macclesfield. The Redbacks batted first and compiled what appeared a competitive total of 9/165 from their 45 overs. The innings was underpinned by a patient half century from Tom Filsell (50 from 106 balls). Tom Keough (25), Kieran O’Connell (20), David Caddle (19), and Josh Lewis-Burns (19) also made handy contributions. Veteran Ben Warren wound back the clock to snare 5/28 from his nine over spell. Langhorne Creek wasted no time in knocking off the total with Brodie O’Dea (52 from 59 balls), James Dawson (48 not out from 62 balls), and Jordan Whiting (32 from 26 balls) doing the damage for the Tigers as the winning runs were brought up with 20 overs to spare. Reigning premier Lobethal remained in second spot on the AEHCA ladder following a thrilling five-run win against local rival Woodside. The Tigers batted first with skipper Mitch Weeks leading from the front with a top-scoring knock of 67 from 76 balls (8 x 4’s, 1 x 6). Daniel Norsworthy made 37 (65 balls) and Matt Martin added a handy 21 (22 balls) down the order as Lobethal reached 184 before being bowled out in the 39th over. Shane Druwitt was the pick of the Warriors’ bowlers with the fine figures of 4/17 (7). Nick Johns (2/33), Jacob Moller (2/47), and Jeremy Druwitt (1/13) were the other wicket takers. Woodside got off to a disastrous start in the run chase with both openers back in the shed with the score at 2/1, before Tommy Baldock (15) and Dave Wescombe (29) joined with Brad Collins to get the Warriors back on track at 3/87. A middle order collapse of 3/2 once again put Lobethal back on top as Collins continued his defiant knock. Jeremy Druwitt chimed in with an important knock of 33 (56 balls) as he and Collins added 56 runs for the seventh wicket before Collins went for 76 (103 balls). Lobethal held their nerve to restrict Woodside to 9/179. Weeks completed a fine all-round double as he took 3/40 (9), while Cam Winen bowled a miserly spell of 2/15 (8). Ladder - after round 11Langhorne Creek 40, Lobethal 30, Nairne 28, Strathalbyn 24, Macclesfield 22, Bremer/Callington 18, Woodside 12, Hahndorf 2. Round 12 fixtures (14/1/23) - home team named firstHahndorf v WoodsideLobethal v Bremer/CallingtonMacclesfield v NairneStrathalbyn v Langhorne Creek
