Reigning premier Willunga are through to the FPAG ‘A’ Grade Women’s Great Southern Football League Grand Final after defeating McLaren by 30 points in the second semi-final at McLaren Vale yesterday. The game was tight for the first three quarters as the Demons led by 14 points at the last change with a spot in the decider up for grabs. Willunga pulled away in the final term, kicking three goals to zero, to win 8.3 (51) to 3.3 (21). Tamara Page, Tessa Kohn and Lauren Buchanan kicked two goals each for Willunga, while Hannah Georgeson also kicked two goals for the Eagles. Ella Radbone, Katrice Turner, Kristen Rothwell, Lauren Clifton and Clare Holmes were named best players for Willunga. Best for McLaren included Caitlin Ross, Jessica Veasey and Layla Rogers. Goolwa/Port Elliot made their way through to the Preliminary Final after defeating Strathalbyn by 25 points in the first semi-final at McLaren Vale. Wisanger started well to lead by 29 points at quarter time, before Kingscote hit back with three goals to two in the second term to reduce the margin to 23 points at the long break. Wisanger put the foot down in the second half, kicking nine goals to two, to win 16.12 (108) to 6.12 (48). Jackson Lockett (4), Sam Clifford (3), Khyal Stead (3) and Luke Shurven (2) were the multiple goalkickers for the Panthers. Riley Mattner and Peter Rolfe kicked two goals each for Kingscote. Langhorne Creek kept their finals hopes alive with a thrilling two-point win against Myponga/Sellicks during round 14 action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) on Saturday. The Hawks sit just one win outside the top-five with four games left in the minor round, ahead of a big clash with McLaren next week. Langhorne Creek led by 19 points at quarter time, 22 points at halftime and still led by 20 points at the last change and they looked well on their way to victory. The Mudlarks, with the home crowd behind them, kicked three goals in the last quarter but came up just short as the ‘Creeks’ won 10.10 (70) to 10.8 (68). Caleb Howell (3) and Jake Dominish (2) were the multiple goalkickers for the Hawks, while Jake Spinks (3) and Ben Kennedy (2) were the main goalkickers for the Mudlarks. Matt Dominish, Howell, Jake Dominish, Malakai Kartinyeri and Brodie O’Dea were named best players for Langhorne Creek. Luke Whitford, Ben Kennedy, Connor Sampson, Jake Spinks and Cooper Gilbert were best for Myponga/Sellicks. McLaren remained undefeated after grinding out a 16-point win at Strathalbyn. The classy McLaren unit steadied, kicking five goals to two in the final term, to win 13.12 (90) to 11.8 (74). Jordan Mutton kicked four goals for McLaren, while Mark Tucker, Ben Simounds and Cooper Machin each kicked two goals for Strathalbyn. The final scores were Victor Harbor 16.15 (111) to Yankalilla 3.2 (20). Jackson Elmes and James Mulhern kicked four goals each for ‘Victor’, while Matt James slotted two majors for the Tigers. Willunga flexed their muscles ahead of the finals, as they completed an undefeated minor round with a 92-point win against Goolwa/Port Elliot during round 14 action in the FPAG ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition in the Great Southern Football League today. The Demons led by 18 points at quarter time, 42 points at halftime, and 68 points at the last change, before winning 14.8 (92) to 0.0 (0). Tamara Page kicked four goals in a best-on-ground display for Willunga and she was well supported by Chelsea Farr (3), Jodie Hunt (2), Shae Archbold (2) and Cleo Guilfoyle (2), who were the other multiple goalkickers. Joining Page in the best players for the minor premier were Patty Sommerville, Guilfoyle, Courtney Gutschmidt and Hunt. Flagstaff Hill moved inside the top-three following their 23-point win against Noarlunga during round 14 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) yesterday. It was a low-scoring first half with ‘Flaggies’ taking a handy 16-point lead to halftime in perfect conditions on their home ground. The Falcons extended their lead to 28 points at three quarter time and the game appeared over. The Shoes had other ideas as they kicked three goals in the first five minutes of the last term to reduce the margin to just 10 points. However, Flagstaff Hill steadied to win 12.13 (85) to 9.8 (62). Nathan Beenham kicked four goals for the Falcons, while Reece Martell and Sam Miller kicked two goals each for the Shoes. Best players for Flagstaff Hill included Nash Mitchell, Luke Beenham, Michael Shearer, Nathan Beenham and David Kearsley. Best for Noarlunga were Callum Gaspari, Zac Williams, Tom Mott, Patrick Marshall and Jake Birch. Christies Beach kept their slim finals hopes alive with a come-from-behind victory against Cove at Bice Oval yesterday. The ‘Roos led by 19 points at halftime, before kicking 10 goals to three in the second half to win 16.18 (114) to 7.6 (48). Sam Basham and Jackson Elmes starred for ‘Victor’ with five goals each, while Ben Simounds kicked three majors for Strathalbyn. Best players for Victor Harbor included Jesse McKinnon, Elmes, Zac Dowling, Rhys Bartram and Dylan Kleinig.
