Nairne upset top side Strathalbyn in Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket

11 November 2019, 9:00 PM

Nairne has moved up to fifth spot on the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association (AEHCA) ladder after an upset 59-run victory over the previously undefeated Strathalbyn Stallions at Nairne Oval on Saturday. The home side won the toss and elected to bat first and despite losing opener James Graves early to leave them at 1/17, the Razorbacks pushed on with good partnerships of 51 for the second wicket between Robert Crook (47 from 90 balls) and Richard Boscence (16 from 29 balls) and then 42 for the third wicket between Crook and his skipper Luke Timmins to see Nairne to 3/110. Timmins batted beautifully as he hit nine boundaries and two sixes on his way to an undefeated 83 from just 93 balls. An unbroken 58-run stand for the sixth wicket between Timmins and Sam Rowe (21 not out from 24 balls) lifted Nairne to a very competitive 5/198 after their 45 overs. Brayden Gaiter snared 2/41 for the Stallions. Strathalbyn’s reply never really got going with only skipper Mark Abbott (31) and Steven Schofield (20) putting up any real resistance as the Stallions were bowled out for 139 in the 42nd over. Jacob Sadler (3/28), Michael Harden (2/16) and Chad Harrop (2/32) were the multiple wicket takers for Nairne. Hahndorf continued their undefeated start to the season and took over top spot on the ladder with a comfortable five-wicket win over Bremer-Callington on the Callington turf wicket. The home side won the toss and decided to bat first but they were soon in trouble as Jarrad Tait ripped through the top order and reduced the Cobras to 8/70. Tait took 5/33 from his nine overs, his second five-wicket haul for the Magpies after a long and successful career at Nairne. Chris Schilling (36 from 30 balls) and Mitchell Crisp (10 from 34 balls) put some respectability back on the scoreboard with a 45-run union for the ninth wicket before Bremer-Callington were bowled out in just the 28th over for 115. In the run chase, Hahndorf opener Andrew Baker continued his excellent start to the season with a top scoring knock of 47. Baker now has 231 runs at an average of 46.20 for the season. Graydon Brand (21 not out) and Tait (18) also contributed as the runs were knocked off after just 24 overs. Crisp was the best of the bowlers for the Cobras with figures of 3/28 (9).Lobethal notched their first win of the season as they upset their old Torrens Valley rival Woodside by six wickets at Lobethal Oval. Woodside won the toss and decided to bat first and were soon in all sorts of trouble as they slumped to a disastrous 8/30. Noah Bell (15 from 54 balls) and Chris Baschiera (32 from 60 balls) averted a complete disaster for the Warriors as they limped to a total of 99 before being dismissed in the 37th over. Mitchell Weeks with 3/6 (9) and Matt Martin who took 3/24 (9) were the main destroyers for the Tigers. Lobethal were made to work extremely hard to chase down the small target as they took 41 overs to knock off the runs, finishing at 6/101. Lachie Bates with 27 not out top scored while Weeks continued his good day with a patient 22 from 69 balls. Sam Luck (2/11) and Dale Robinson (2/20) were the major wicket takers for Woodside.Mount Barker has won their second game for the season with a 46-run victory over local rival Wistow at Mount Barker. The young Wistow combination are still seeking their first win for the season. The home side won the toss and decided to bat first and they got useful contributions from a number of players including skipper Rhys Patterson (27), Deklan Porter (26) and Wayne Buckland (22) although the highest score for the Kookaburras was extras which numbered 31 as they posted a competitive total of 177. Five Wistow bowlers took two wickets each with Steven Nettle bowling an exceptional spell of 2/12 from his nine overs. The Echidnas got off to a reasonable start to reach 1/60 before a string of wickets saw them slip to 6/80 and seemingly out of the contest. Dave Kinlough was holding the innings together with a fine 61 from 76 balls (9 x 4’s) and he combined with Finley Walsh (14 from 21 balls) to add 33 for the eighth wicket to give their side a bit of a sniff before another collapse of 3/0 saw the innings wrapped up for 131 in the 35th over. Hayden Lane took 4/40 (8) for the Kookaburras and he was well supported by new recruit Simon Turk who finished with 3/24 (7.4). Turk has been an excellent addition for Mount Barker this season with 148 runs and six wickets from his three matches. You can access the AEHCA premiership tables at this link…..http://aehca.sa.cricket.com.au/common/pages/public/rv/ladder.aspx?entityid=3140&id=RV_LAD&mode=0&Round 6 (16/11/19) fixtures (home sides named first)…..Woodside v Mount BarkerStrathalbyn v WistowLanghorne Creek v Bremer-CallingtonLobethal v NairneHahndorf has the bye

Grand Final glory beckons for Stingrays Women
Grand Final glory beckons for Stingrays Women

11 November 2019, 7:30 PM

Southern Districts’ Womens first grade side has joined their second grade teammates in reaching the SACA Premier Cricket Twenty20 Grand Final after a hard fought 10-run win over Sturt on Sunday. The second grade had already booked their spot in the decider after winning their first five matches. The Grand Finals will be played on Saturday November 30 from 10.30am with the first grade to take on Kensington at the magnificent Karen Rolton Oval with the second grade playing next door at Park 25 (Oval 2) against either Glenelg or Northern Districts. On Sunday the Stingrays first grade took to the field at Bice Oval with a simple equation, beat Sturt and appear in the Grand Final on 30 November at Karen Rolton Oval. The home side batted first and got off to a good start as Kelly Armstrong (19)  and Narelle Maiolo (7) combined for an opening stand of 32 from seven overs. Once the openers were dismissed and skipper Jess O’Reilly went for 10, the Stingrays were in a spot of bother at 3/47. Enter Kylie Rattray (21 off 17) and Ella Wilson (27 off 24) to give the innings some much needed impetus as these two added a quickfire 43 from just six overs for the fourth wicket before the innings finished with the home side posting a very defendable 9/118 from their 20 overs. Wilson and Rattray sit in the top five leading run scorers for the competition this season and both have strike rates in excess of 100. Stacey Oates (2/26) and Rhianna Peate (2/28) were the multiple wicket takers for Sturt. The Sturt run chase started with Stingrays skipper Jess O’Reilly bowling a maiden before Hannah Sampson took a wicket with her first ball and also removed SA and Strikers squad member Annie O’Neil (16) on her way to the miserly figures of 2/7 (4). Kelly Armstrong continued her excellent season as she took 3/10 from her four over spell. Armstrong leads the competition with 15 wickets for the season. Sturt failed to gain any momentum as they slipped to 6/59 in the 13th over before a late surge saw them get the score up to 6/108 after 20 overs, mainly due to a hard hitting 36 not out (22 balls) from Oates at the end.Next Sunday the first grade have a bye while the second grade will play Adelaide University at Park 12 (No. 1) from 1.00pm. The longer format games start on Sunday 24 November with the first grade competition being 50 overs per side while the second grade, who are the reigning premiers, play 40 overs per side.

Southern Districts Women's first grade has consolidated second spot on the ladder in the SACA Premier Cricket T20 competition after splitting their two games on Sunday at Park 25. In the first game of the double header, the Stingrays took on reigning champions Kensington and after winning the toss and batting first, the Browns made a competitive 6/108 from their 20 overs. The innings was dominated by Eliza Doddridge who made 67 (74 balls). The wickets were shared around with Kelly Armstrong the most economical bowler with 1/15 (4). The Stingrays run chase began disastrously as they slumped to 7/32 before a 49-run partnership between Hannah Armstrong (24) and Kylie Rattray (28) gave them some hope of an unlikely win but ultimately they fell 16 runs short to be bowled out for 92 in the 20th over.West Torrens were the Stingrays opponent in the afternoon game and after being sent in, the Stingrays batted well to put their biggest score of the season on the board as they reached 6/146 from their 20 overs. The innings was set up by a 64-run second wicket stand between Kelly Armstrong (19) and Ella Wilson (64). Wilson was on fire as she brought up her second half century of the season, only facing 41 balls during her match winning innings. Kylie Rattray continued her solid day with a hard hitting 26 (18 balls) as she put the Eagles bowlers to the sword. West Torrens were never in the hunt as they could only manage 8/81 from their 20 overs with Donna Clark (3/6) and Kelly Armstrong (3/13) the destroyers. The second grade hosted West Torrens at Bice Oval looking to continue their undefeated season. The home side won the toss and sent the Eagles in and their innings never really got going as they slumped to 3/9 before batting out their overs finally reaching 7/45 from their 20 overs. Keely Stone was a start for the Stingrays with the ball as she snared 4/8 from four overs and she was well supported by Cassidy Perkins with 2/9 (4). Despite losing four wickets in the run chase, the Stingrays were relatively untroubled in reaching the victory target with more than seven overs to spare and keep top position on the ladder.Next week the first grade host Sturt at Bice Oval from 10.00am while the second grade has the bye.

Stirling win thriller in HCA
Stirling win thriller in HCA

05 November 2019, 7:30 PM

Stirling has won a thrilling contest against Mt Lofty as round three action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) wrapped up on Saturday. The Eagles had slumped to 7/55 in pursuit of Mt Lofty’s first innings of 173 before 17 year old Jack Read made a heroic, match winning 87 not out (108 balls) to guide the Eagles home by one wicket. Read was involved in significant partnerships worth 44 (8th wicket) with Josh Cox, 50 (9th wicket) with Charlie Fryer and then an unbroken 10th wicket stand of 25 with Alex Durbidge to get the home side over the line. James Kittel-Neill (3/47) and Adam Carthew (3/54) battled manfully with the ball for the Redcaps. On day one, Mt Lofty’s innings was anchored by Nick Justice who batted for over three hours, making a valuable 76. Some late hitting from Brad Hutton (29 not out off 19 balls) lifted the visitors to a competitive total. Veteran pair Julian Zytnik (3/31) and Pete Fryer (3/48) did the damage with the ball for Stirling. It was a fantastic and at one stage, highly unlikely win for Stirling which will give them some impetus going into this week’s game against Aldgate, while for Mt Lofty it was a case of what might have been. The Redcaps will need to pick themselves up as they travel to Meadows in round four.Meadows has remained undefeated after a comfortable six-wicket victory over Bridgewater at Meadows Oval. The visitors batted first on day one and were bowled out for just 122. Charlie Birnie top scored with 40 and was supported by Rhys Jordan (27). Unfortunately for the Raiders there were no other contributions as they were bowled out after 57 overs. Tom Bevan-Giles returned his best ever figures with 4/19 (12) while veteran Chad Dawe was good again with 3/27 (14). Meadows had 10 overs to bat before stumps and were 1/28 with Luke Tonkin the player dismissed for 13. It only took 21 overs on day two for the Bulldogs to wrap up the victory with Matt Pethick (29 not out) and Anthony Hughes (23) leading the way with the bat. Veteran Luke Hoyle bowled a good spell for Bridgewater to snare 2/5 from his five overs. Meadows face Mt Lofty in the next round while Bridgewater has the bye.Aldgate won their second game of the season after chasing down Flagstaff Hill’s total of 204 with six wickets in hand. Aldgate skipper Jake Turnbull sent the Falcons into bat on day one and through excellent contributions from skipper Kyle Petty (50) and Angus Heaton (48), the home side got themselves into a good position at 4/148. Turnbull took matters into his own hands, bowling a marathon 22-over spell and taking 6/59, his fourth five-wicket haul for Aldgate. Flagstaff Hill lost 6/56 to be bowled out in the final over of the day. Day two began well for Aldgate as Josh Callaghan (22) and Mitch Thomas (18) added 45 for the first wicket before three quick wickets fell to leave the reigning premier vulnerable at 3/60 in the 33rd over. Petty was in the middle of a long 30-over spell which would ultimately yield him the figures of 3/82. Aldgate needed a partnership and they got a good one as Frank Clements (84 not out) and Liam Winskill (68) put on 136 for the fourth wicket to get the Gaters close to the victory target which was ultimately achieved in the 64th over.Round 4 (9/11/19 & 16/11/19) fixtures are two-day matches (home team named first).....Aldgate v StirlingKangarilla v Flagstaff HillMeadows v Mt LoftyBridgewater has the bye

Woodside back on the winners list in AEHCA

04 November 2019, 7:30 PM

Woodside has bounced back from a disappointing loss last week to consolidate a top four spot on the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association (AEHCA)  ‘A’ grade ladder after a big 153-run victory over Bremer-Callington at Woodside Oval on Saturday. The Warriors won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first as they got off to a great start with an opening stand of 97 between Tommy Baldock (51) and Will Worthington (61). Veteran batsman Dave Wescombe continued the carnage with a whirlwind knock of 72 from just 48 balls (10 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s) before Sam Luck (42) and Brad Collins (27) kept the innings ticking over with Woodside finishing up on 7/299. Jonah Smith came on late for the Cobras to take 3/9 from two overs. The visitors began their run chase well with Arsalan Eubaid (47) and Stewart Leigh (26) putting on 73 for the first wicket but from then on it was all Woodside with only skipper, Johnny Fitzgerald (28), getting to double figures as Bremer-Callington were bowled out for 146. Wescombe continued his good day taking 4/10 from five overs, his best figures in almost seven years. Charlie McDonough (2/29) and Chris Baschiera (2/45) were the other multiple wicket takers.Hahndorf continued their unbeaten start to the season with a comprehensive 97-run victory over Wistow at Hahndorf Oval. Batting first, Hahndorf were bowled out in the 43rd over for a very competitive 225. Lachlan Elsworthy (3/46) and Sam Smith (3/52) led the way with the ball for the visitors. Wistow’s run chase started well as the Echidnas reached 2/90 with Dan Jenner (33), David Kinlough (33) and Lachlan Elsworthy (26) all contributing before a collapse of 8/38 saw Wistow bowled out for just 128 in the 36th over. Benny Montgomerie was the star with the ball taking his first five-wicket haul with the figures of 5/24 from 6.4 overs.Strathalbyn also remain undefeated after a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over a disappointing Lobethal outfit at Strathalbyn Oval. The home side won the toss and sent the Tigers in to bat and it only took 19.1 overs for the Stallions to roll them for just 52. Only Matt Jenkin (17) could reach double figures for Lobethal as Matt Hein (4/8), Danny Horan (2/17) and Brayden Gaiter (2/18) ran riot. The Stallions lost three early wickets in the run chase to slip to 3/29 but Nathan Pelle (16 not out) steadied the ship as the winning runs came up in just the 16th over as Strathalbyn retained top spot on the AEHCA ladder. Lobethal's Dave Huxter tried hard with the ball to snare 3/21.Reigning premier Langhorne Creek notched their third consecutive win as they defeated Nairne by 30 runs on the turf at Langhorne Creek. The home side batted first and got off to an excellent start with Nathan Wundersitz (55) and Shannon Jones (23) putting on 69 for the first wicket. Once Jones was dismissed, Wundersitz was joined by Cameron Cox (23) and these two took the score to 1/109 and a score of 200+ looked on the cards. Nairne teenager Duncan Rogers, in just his third ‘A’ grade game, put the brakes on the reigning premier by taking an impressive 5/40 from eight overs as the home side battled their way to 9/187 from their 45 overs. Nairne had fought back well in the field but it all went pear shaped early in the run chase as Troy Blackwell (3/18) removed the top three batsmen to have the Razorbacks reeling at 3/31. Skipper Luke Timmins (30) steadied the ship and Michael Harden added a hard hitting 32 not out from 31 balls as Nairne finished at 8/157.You can access the AEHCA ‘A’ grade ladder at this link…..http://aehca.sa.cricket.com.au/common/pages/public/rv/ladder.aspx?entityid=3140&id=RV_LAD&mode=0&Round 5 (9/11/19) fixtures (home sides named first)Bremer Callington v HahndorfLobethal v WoodsideNairne v StrathalbynMount Barker v WistowLanghorne Creek has the bye

Shaun Tanner inspires Southern Districts to gutsy draw in SACA Premier Cricket

03 November 2019, 7:30 PM

Southern Districts has battled out a gutsy draw as round four of SACA Premier Cricket wrapped up at Bice Oval on Saturday. Tea Tree Gully had finished day one on 4/316 and they decided to bat on for another four overs on day two, adding a further 33 runs for the loss of just one wicket before declaring at 5/349. Shaun Tanner (2/65) and Sunam Gautam (2/112) were the multiple wicket takers for the Stingrays. The run chase couldn’t have started off any worse for the hosts as Tea Tree Gully’s opening bowlers Ben Atkinson (2/34) and Adam Somerfield (3/42) cut a swathe through Southern Districts’ top order to leave them reeling at 4/10. Sunam Gautam started to ease some of the pressure with a breezy 30 from 41 balls but when he was dismissed, with the score at 5/52, a home victory was out of the question with salvaging a draw the only aim for the Stingrays. Veteran all-rounder Shaun Tanner was joined by David Sboro and this pair set about blunting the Bulls attack. They did this with great effect for over two and a half hours until Sboro was dismissed for 38 after an excellent 112-run stand for the sixth wicket. Tanner was ploughing on and he found another ally in Lewis Hatchett who batted for over an hour for his eight not out, while Tanner notched his second ‘A’ grade century, finishing 119 not out in a tick under five hours of intense concentration. It was a match saving innings as the Stingrays held on for a well deserved draw at 7/215.The Stingrays have the bye next week before taking on West Torrens in round six at Henley Grange Memorial Oval on 16 & 23 November.

Adelaide Strikers youngster Darcie Brown snared 3/27 from her four overs for the Jets. Northern Districts’ run chase began well with the score sitting at 1/59 at one stage before a batting collapse of 6/25 snuffed out any chance of victory. The visitors won the toss and sent the home side in and the move paid immediate dividends with Encounter Bay finding itself under immense early pressure at 3/23. Sam Hoffmann was holding the innings together and he was joined by his skipper Cam Lintern as these two started to resurrect the innings. Hoffmann went on to make a fine 69, his second half century of the season, while Lintern finished on 28 as the pair put on a crucial 76-run stand for the fourth wicket. Late runs from Jonah Magor (22 not out) and Mitchell Reilly (15 not out) were crucial as Encounter Bay posted a competitive total of 6/160 from their 40 overs. Three quick wickets however left the visitors in trouble at 3/50 before Joel Harris (26) and Hayden Gordge (22) gave the run chase some impetus with a 48-run stand for the fourth wicket. Andrew Evans (2/12) and Jake Ashton-Place (2/39) were the main wicket takers for Goolwa. David Smith was the best of McLaren Districts’ bowlers taking 2/24 from eight overs.Simon Roberts has put on a bowling masterclass as he took the amazing figures of 7/8 (including a hat trick) from four overs to lead his Willunga side to a crushing 116-run win on the turf at Mount Compass. Benny Montgomerie (3/9), Jarrad Tait (3/18) and Caleb Blesing (2/15) did the damage for the Magpies with the ball. Hahndorf were untroubled in reaching the victory target for the loss of just two wickets in the 16th over with Andrew Baker continuing his consistent start to the season top scoring with 41 (6 x 4’s, 1 x 6). It was a very even performance from the Razorbacks batsmen with five players scoring 27 runs or more including Richard Boscence (51), Sam Rowe (45) and Robert Crook (35). Mitchell Crisp was the only multiple wicket taker for the Cobras with 2/51. Bremer-Callington started their run chase in solid fashion with Stewart Leigh (24) and Arsalan Eubaid putting on 42 for the first wicket. Captain Johnny Fitzgerald came in at the fall of the second wicket and played an excellent attacking innings as he smashed 74 from just 65 balls to get his side to 3/147. Once Fitzgerald was dismissed, the Cobras lost their last 7/47 to be knocked over for 189. The home side won the toss and decided to bat and after losing Daniel Cleggett early to be 1/17, captain Matt Tonkin and opening batsman Nathan Wundersitz set about putting a sizeable target on the board as the pair put on 81 for the second wicket before Wundersitz was dismissed for 46. Tonkin was joined by Ben Warren (23) and they added 44 for the third wicket before Tonkin departed for 50 from 63 balls. A few quick wickets had the Echidnas back in the game before Brayden Frost made his first ‘A’ grade half century for the Tigers with a hard hitting 52 from just 43 balls (5 x 4’s, 1 x 6) before unfortunately being run out. Langhorne Creek eventually finished on 9/233 from their 45 overs. Teenager Finley Walsh was the standout for Wistow with the ball taking 3/30 (9). Wistow’s run chase never gathered any momentum as the young side battled against a tight Langhorne Creek bowling unit. Only skipper Daniel Jenner (53) and Daniel Hughes (21) showed any real resistance in the top order while Walsh smashed a quick fire 24 from just 12 balls to provide some entertainment towards the end of the innings. Matt Tonkin with 3/14 (7) was the leading wicket taker for the Tigers while Warren was very tight finishing with figures of 1/14 (9).Round 4 (2/11/19) fixtures (home sides named first)…..Hahndorf v WistowWoodside v Bremer-CallingtonStrathalbyn v LobethalLanghorne Creek v NairneMount Barker has the bye

Wistow needed some early wickets to be any sort of chance and they started well to reduce the Warriors to 3/37 with the danger man, Dave Wescombe, removed without scoring. However new recruit Will Worthington (30 not out) and skipper Brad Collins (36 not out) came together to add 70 runs for the fourth wicket to see Woodside home after just 21 overs. Elsworthy continued his good day by taking 2/34 from his nine overs.Reigning premier Langhorne Creek has bounced back after a disastrous round one loss to win at Lobethal by seven wickets. The visitors welcomed back a number of premiership players including skipper Matt Tonkin and gun all-rounder Ben Warren. Lobethal won the toss and elected to bat first on a slow outfield and things started poorly for the home side as they slipped to 3/25 with Warren claiming the first two wickets to fall on his way to an impressive 3/18 (9). It was slow going as the northern Tigers tried to resurrect their innings through Mitch Weeks (13) and Daniel Norsworthy (35) who added 39 for the fourth wicket. This was followed by a 32-run union between Norsworthy and Matt Martin (9) but when Norsworthy was dismissed, things fell away quickly until Dave Huxter struck an enterprising 17 not out from as many balls to lift Lobethal to a competitive total of 9/137. Brad Clements (3/34) and Troy Blackwell (2/26) were the other multiple wicket takers for Langhorne Creek. The reigning premier were relatively untroubled in their run chase with opener Daniel Cleggett anchoring the innings with 41 not out and with Warren contributing a hard hitting 58 from 47 balls (6 x 4’s, 1 x 6), Langhorne Creek passed Lobethal’s total three wickets down in the 33rd over.Hahndorf has flexed their muscles with a commanding performance at Mount Barker. Both teams were coming off first round victories so confidence was high in both camps. The home side won the toss and elected to bat first but they were soon under pressure as they slipped to 3/35. Fresh off a half century on his Kookaburras debut, Riverland recruit Simon Turk made an excellent 67 (74 balls) to take the score past 100. A late collapse of 4/1 saw Mount Barker dismissed for 152 in the 42nd over. Hahndorf’s Caleb Blesing was the star with the ball with an excellent spell of 3/16 from 9 overs. He was ably supported by Kris Dawe (2/23), Graydon Brand (2/32) and Jarrad Tait (2/34). The Magpies wasted no time getting on with the run chase as veteran opening pair Greg Hassold and Andrew Baker put the Kookaburras bowlers to the sword adding 143 for the first wicket before Baker was dismissed for 48. Hassold continued on to a fine 90 not out (17 x 4’s, 1 x 6) as the visitors knocked off the runs in the 22nd over to notch their second consecutive victory to start the season.Led by another brilliant century from skipper Mark Abbott, Strathalbyn made it two wins from as many games with a comprehensive 121-run win at Bremer-Callington. After opening the season with a score of 117, Abbott crunched 118 from 127 balls. His innings included 11 boundaries and six sixes. Matt Abbott contributed a hard hitting 33 (27 balls) and Jacob Tonkin a patient 29 (68 balls) as the Stallions posted an imposing total of 5/232 from their 45 overs. Nathan Fitzgerald continued his excellent start to the season with figures of 3/18 from his nine overs. The Cobras were never in the hunt in the run chase with only Nathan Fitzgerald showing any real resistance making a hard fought 42 from 58 balls (4 x 4’s, 1 x 6) as the home side were bowled out in the 39th over for 111. Matt Hein spun a web with 3/22 (9) and he was ably supported by Ben Cousins with 2/17 (9).Round 3 (26/10/19) fixtures…..Hahndorf v WoodsideStrathalbyn v Mount BarkerLanghorne Creek v WistowNairne v Bremer-CallingtonLobethal has the bye

Stirling won the toss and decided to bat first and Ben Zampa continued his good early season form with 36 from 49 balls (3 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s). He was ably supported by skipper Jack Pick (36) as this pair added 41 for the second wicket as the Eagles got themselves into a good position at 1/78. From there on however, Bridgewater turned the screws and restricted the home side to 8/134 from their 40 overs. Luke Hoyle (3/21), Justin Summerill (2/25) and Rhys Jordan (2/37) were the chief wicket takers for the Raiders. Stirling started well with young seamer Myles Collins (2/11 from 8) removing Charlie Birnie and Jackson Hooper cheaply before the experienced duo of Summerill and Hoyle came together to take Bridgewater in sight of victory. Hoyle made 38 (1 x 4’s , 3 x 6’s) while Summerill batted through the innings to finish on 63 not out (6 x 4’s) as the visitors knocked off the runs with four overs to spare.Kangarilla had a huge 142-run win over reigning premier Aldgate at Aldgate Oval, sending a warning to the competition that ‘Kangies’ will be a team to watch in 2019/20. The visitors won the toss and set about putting a large total on the board. New recruit Cole Davy (67), Steve Featherstone (64), Matthew Bertelsmeier (45) and skipper Che Martinsen (44) were all amongst the runs as Kangarilla posted an imposing total of 5/254. Aldgate skipper Jake Turnbull (2/38) and young off-spinner Henry Brasher (2/43) were the multiple wicket takers for Aldgate. The home sides run chase never got going with opener Josh Callaghan (21) the only batsman to pass 20 as the reigning premier was rolled for just 112 in the 37th over. Jack Evans (3/21), Troy Martinsen (2/17) and Che Martinsen (2/27) were the chief destroyers for a triumphant Kangarilla outfit.Flagstaff Hill hosted Mount Lofty in a match ultimately decided by the weather. Mount Lofty were making their first appearance for the season after a first round bye and after being sent in the Redcaps were in trouble at 3/47. Josh Healey made a swift 21 from 23 balls while James Kittel-Neill was the mainstay of the innings making a fine 44 (55 balls). There wasn’t much resistance after that with the last seven wickets falling for just 23 runs with Mount Lofty bowled out in the 35th over for just 114. Jacob Lemon bowled a fine eight-over spell snaring 4/21 and he was well supported by skipper Kyle Petty (2/10) and Sam Tonkin (2/20). Petty (41), Stephen Wheatland (34) and Matt Emes (21) pushed the Falcons into a winning position at 2/102 before three quick wickets reduced them to 5/106 but only needing nine runs for victory with seven overs remaining before the rain intervened and the match was abandoned with the teams sharing the points.Round 3 (26/10/19 & 2/11/19) fixtures are 70-overs per side two-dayers (home team named first)…..Meadows v BridgewaterFlagstaff Hill v AldgateStirling v Mount LoftyKangarilla has the bye
