With the test match bye out of the way, Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association (AEHCA) competition resumes tomorrow when round eight gets underway. The match of the round sees a re-match of last seasons grand final between Hahndorf and Langhorne Creek at Hahndorf Oval. Hahndorf are currently undefeated and sit on top of the ladder while the reigning premier Langhorne Creek are in third spot with a 5-1 win-loss record. Hahndorf has very strong bowling stocks with Jarrad Tait (15 wickets), Benny Montgomerie (14) and Caleb Blesing (9) sitting inside the top 10 on the AEHCA wicket takers list this season. Veteran opening batsman Andrew Baker has been ultra consistent with the bat and has scored 239 runs at an average of 39.50. Langhorne Creek has struggled to get a settled lineup so to be sitting in third spot has been an excellent effort. Nathan Wundersitz leads the way with the bat having scored 137 runs at 27.40 while despite only playing three matches, Ben Warren has taken eight wickets at the miserly average of just 8.50.There’s the prospect of another cracking top four match when Woodside (fourth) take on Strathalbyn (second) at Woodside Oval. Strathalbyn has been in great form with their only loss coming back in round five to Nairne. Skipper Mark Abbott has led from the front with 277 runs at an average of 69.25, including two centuries. He’s been well supported by Luke Cousins who has scored 184 runs at 36.80. Strathalbyn have a very good and varied bowling attack led by Matt Abbott (12 wickets), Brayden Gaiter (12) and Matt Hein (10), who all sit inside the top 10 on the AEHCA wicket takers list. Woodside has been a little bit inconsistent as their 4-3 record would suggest but their best is definitely good enough to threaten the top sides. Veteran Dave Wescombe has led the way for the Warriors with the bat, scoring 235 runs at 39.17 while recruit Will Worthington has been very consistent with 168 runs at an average of 42.00. Dale Robinson leads the association bowling with 15 wickets at 11.13 and he’s been well supported by Chris Baschiera with 10 wickets.Local rivals Nairne and Mount Barker clash at Nairne Oval with the winner keeping their finals chances alive while the loser will struggle to make the major round. Both sides have a 2-4 win-loss record and sit two games outside the top four. New Nairne skipper Luke Timmins (202 runs) and veteran Richard Boscence (162 runs) have led the way with the bat to sit inside the top 10 run scorers in the association. Teenager Duncan Rogers, in his first season of ‘A’ grade, leads the Razorbacks bowling with seven wickets. Simon Turk has been an excellent recruit for the Kookaburras and leads the way with both bat (194 runs) and ball (seven wickets). Turk joined Mount Barker from Riverland club Renmark North this season. Wistow will host an improving Lobethal outfit on the hill at Wistow. The Echidnas are yet to taste victory in season 2019/20 while the Tigers have hit their straps lately winning three games on the trot. Lobethal has been best served by Mitchell Weeks (140 runs) and skipper Ben Matthews (137 runs) in the batting stakes while Matt Martin has been excellent with the ball snaring 10 wickets at an average of just 13.90. It’s been tough going for a young Wistow side but they are well led by skipper Daniel Jenner who sits inside the top five run scorers in the AEHCA with 220 runs at an average of 36.67 while youngster Lachlan Elsworthy continues to improve with the ball and has taken nine wickets so far this season.Bremer-Callington has the bye tomorrow and currently sit in eighth position with a 1-6 win-loss record. They have suffered through injury and player unavailability so far in 2019/20 but they hope to be more settled from now on. The Cobras have been well led by skipper Johnny Fitzgerald (159 runs) and Arsalan Eubaid (140 runs) while Mitchell Crisp leads the way with the ball with nine wickets.

Reigning premier Aldgate has moved into third spot on the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) ladder after a comprehensive eight-wicket victory over Mount Lofty at Heathfield Oval. Aldgate resumed day two at 1/13 in pursuit of Mount Lofty’s meagre first innings total of 72. Mitch Thomas (42) and skipper Jake Turnbull (15) added 55 for the second wicket to take the Gaters within sight of victory then Frank Clements (38 from 42 balls) made short work of the rest of the chase as Aldgate declared at the tea break on 4/130, an overall lead of 58 runs. There was still 38 overs left in the day and Aldgate were keen to push for an outright win. Mount Lofty held firm through Brett Hill (14 not out) and Nick Justice (4 not out) as the Redcaps finished at 0/18 from 24 overs when Stumps were called early. Aldgate has the bye in round seven while winless Mount Lofty head south to take on the second-placed Kangarilla outfit.Meadows continued their undefeated start to the season with a comfortable 127-run win at Flagstaff Hill on Saturday. Meadows were defending their day one total of 318 and they were made to work hard at the start as Matt Emes (28) and Will Goulding (63) added 69 for the first wicket. Skipper Kyle Petty made 16 to lift the home side to 1/95 before a string of wickets saw the Falcons collapse to 6/137. Stephen Wheatland (41) and Ross Mummery (18) then added 44 runs for the seventh wicket before the last four wickets fell for just  10 runs as they were bowled out for 191 in 52 overs. Anthony Hughes bowled a marathon spell of 20 overs to take 4/77 while Callan Blackwell cleaned up the tail with the average enhancing figures of 3/2. Meadows will host Stirling in the next round while Flagstaff Hill travel to Bridgewater to take on the Raiders.Kangarilla moved into second spot on the ladder after a five-wicket win over Bridgewater at Bridgewater Oval. Resuming day two at 1/53 in pursuit of Bridgewater’s day one total of 106, Kangarilla wasted no time in knocking off the target with Jono Makai (34) and skipper Che Martinsen (19 not out) top scoring for the visitors. Makai hit four sixes and a boundary in his quickfire innings. Adam Eckermann with 4/35 (12) was the leading bowler for Bridgewater. Kangarilla have won three of their four matches this season with their only loss being to the undefeated Meadows. Bridgewater sit in fifth spot with just the one win for the season so far.

Southern Districts’ Women cricketers had a day to remember on Saturday winning both the first and second grade SACA Twenty20 premierships. The first grade proved too strong for Kensington winning by 22 runs on the back of a player of the match performance from playing-coach Hannah Sampson who made 52 from 51 balls and then backed it up with the incredible figures of 3/5 from her four overs. It was a great turnaround for Southern Districts as they had lost both minor round games to Kensington earlier in the season. The second grade completed an undefeated season as they comprehensively defeated Glenelg by seven wickets after an amazing bowling display from player of the match Febi Mansell who took the scarcely believable figures of 6/5 from her four overs! In the first grade, The Stingrays batted first and got off to a flyer taking 23 from the first two overs before four quick wickets fell to leave them in trouble at 4/47 in the ninth over. Sampson was going strong and she was joined by Rachel Andrew (25 from 26 balls) in a crucial 48-run fifth wicket stand before Andrew was dismissed. Sampson continued on to bring up her half century and Kylie Rattray made a very important 23 not out (15 balls) to lift the total to 6/128 from the 20 overs. Eliza Doddridge was the pick of the Browns bowlers snaring 3/6 (4). The Stingrays came out fired up in the field as Sampson removed the first three Kensington batters and when Shae Daly was dismissed without scoring by Kelly Armstrong (1/26), the reigning champs were on the ropes at 4/38 in the 10th over. Katelyn Pope (33 not out) and Sarah Lowe (32) added 58 for the fifth wicket to get the equation down to 34 required from 24 balls. Two run-outs and a wicket to skipper Jess O’Reilly snuffed out any chance Kensington may have had as they finished on 7/106. It was a particularly memorable day for O’Reilly and Narelle Maiolo who were both foundation players for the Stingrays as under 13’s back in 2005/06. It was Southern Districts’ first ‘A’ grade flag since 2012/13. The second grade dominated Glenelg from the start reducing the Seahorses to 9/14 after nine overs. Febi Mansell (6/5) was the star with the ball removing former Stingrays Nicole Adams and Kate Weger within three balls (both LBW). Mansell then took a further four wickets in her next over as the procession of Glenelg wickets continued with Keely Stone (3/8 from 4 overs) getting in on the act. Akshaya Anandan (13 not out) and Kate Andrews (4 from 41 balls) hung tough for nine overs to get Glenelg to a score of 36 as they were bowled out in the 19th over. Southern Districts started their innings needing just 37 to win but in the back of their mind lurked the thought of the previous week’s game when Glenelg had bowled them out for just 33! However despite losing three wickets, the runs were knocked off in the 11th over with Mansell continuing her great day with 13 not out. It was the Stingrays second grade’s second consecutive premiership after winning the 40-over competition in 2018/19. So an amazing Twenty20 campaign comes to an end for the Stingrays in the best possible way. Back to ‘reality’ this Sunday for the second grade as they host Adelaide University at Bice Oval from 1.00pm. The first grade can keep celebrating as they have the bye!

Women’s Cricket takes centre stage tomorrow at Karen Rolton Oval and Park 25 as the Southern Districts Stingrays chase Twenty20 premiership glory with both the first and second grade sides in grand final action. The first grade will take on Kensington at Karen Rolton Oval while the second grade will face Glenelg at Park 25 (Oval 2). Both games start at 10.30am.The Stingrays first grade will be in for a tough encounter against perennial powerhouse Kensington who have won four of the past five Twenty20 premierships. During the minor round Kensington won both encounters, by 72 runs in round two and then by just 16 runs in round seven. The Stingrays will look to the competition’s leading wicket taker, leg-spinner Kelly Armstrong, to restrict a powerful Kensington batting line-up. Armstrong has taken the most wickets in the competition with 15 and has gone at just 4.04 runs per over. Playing-coach, Hannah Sampson, has also been very miserly with the ball taking seven wickets this season with an economy rate of just 3.69 runs per over. Kensington has great depth in their bowling stocks with Shae Daly, Eliza Doddridge, Sarah Lowe and Katelyn Pope combining for 37 wickets in the minor round. The Stingrays have some real firepower with the bat with 16 year old Ella Wilson and Kylie Rattray. Wilson has a strike rate of 112.9 and Rattray 109.4, two of the highest strike rates in the competition. Kensington also have some damaging batters including Doddridge (198 runs) and Lowe (145 runs) who both sit inside the top five run scorers for 2019/20. It should be a cracking contest between two very even teams.Southern Districts’ second grade have had a fantastic Twenty20 campaign, completing the minor round undefeated. They will face off against Glenelg who they defeated by five wickets back in mid-October. Both sides have strong bowling with two bowlers each inside the top five wicket takers in the competition. Lucy Bowering (nine wickets) and Mikayla Mark (seven) lead the way for Glenelg while Keely Stone and Alecia Holt both have eight wickets for Southern Districts. Holt’s eight wickets have come at the incredible average of just 4.25 while conceding a miserly 1.70 runs per over! Glenelg may have a slight edge in batting with Nicole Adams leading the competition with 168 runs at a strike rate of over 100. It shapes as a very close contest.“Our strength is in our squad depth and the group has worked hard in the pre-season and played some good, consistent cricket throughout both Twenty20 competitions,” said Stingrays playing-coach Hannah Sampson. “Both teams deserve the opportunity to compete for the first and second grade Twenty20 titles. Whatever happens tomorrow, I’m extremely proud of the playing group.”It’s a great opportunity to watch some quality Cricket so get along to Karen Rolton Oval and Park 25 tomorrow from 10.30am!

Bremer-Callington has broken through for their maiden victory of the Alexandra & Eastern Hills (AEHCA) ‘A’ grade competition after a thumping 221-run victory over Wistow at Wistow Oval on Saturday. The Cobras batted first and got off to a flier as Shannon Howie smashed 33 from just 12 balls (2 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s). Port Adelaide C.C. regular Mishal Khan was once again available for Bremer-Callington with the Magpies having the bye in the SACA competition and he top scored with 59 from 43 balls. Stewart Leigh (46), Arsalan Eubaid (43 not out) and skipper Johnny Fitzgerald (31) were all amongst the runs as the Cobras posted a formidable total of 7/286 from their 45 over allotment. In just his second ‘A’ grade game, youngster Harry Burgess took 2/27 (6) for the Echidnas. Wistow’s run chase never got going as they were rolled for just 65 with Khan the star with the ball this time, snaring 6/24. Lobethal have won three games in a row after disposing of Mount Barker by eight wickets at Mount Barker Oval on Saturday. The win sees the Tigers move to within one win of the top four. The Kookaburras won the toss and decided to bat first and were immediately under pressure losing both openers to see the score stand at 2/21. Simon Turk continued his good form to top score with 46 (64 balls) and veteran Wayne Buckland contributed 22 (32 balls) down the order but the home side could only muster a score of 135 before being bowled out in the 44th over. All the Lobethal bowlers did their job with Matt Martin (4/27) and Dave Huxter (3/25) the pick of the Tigers attack. As they did last week, Mitch Weeks and skipper Ben Matthews got the Tigers off to a great start with an opening partnership of 38 before Weeks was dismissed for 23. Matthews (52) continued on to post his second consecutive half century while Daniel Norsworthy made 35 not out as the target was knocked off for the loss of just two wickets and with more than 18 overs to spare.Reigning premier Langhorne Creek has won their fifth consecutive game after a tough 11-run victory over Woodside on the Langhorne Creek turf. The visitors sent the Tigers in and that decision paid immediate dividends as opener Nathan Wundersitz was removed without scoring by Dale Robinson (3/20). Robinson was again the pick of the Warriors bowlers and has now take an equal league-leading 15 wickets at the miserly average of just 11.13. New recruit Brodie O’Dea (55) and skipper Matt Tonkin (40) then added 80 for the second wicket to put the home side in a strong position. O’Dea has been recruited from Northern Areas Cricket Association club Pekina/Carrieton and has played for SA Country at the past two Australian country cricket championships. Ben Warren (29) and Ben McLeod (23) helped lift Langhorne Creek to a solid total of 214 before being bowled out in the 44th over. Jeremy Druwitt provided good support to Robinson as he took 3/34 (8.5). Woodside lost Tyson Reichstein early to be 1/3 before veteran Dave Wescombe (38) and James Bradley (14) added 61 runs for the second wicket before they were both removed with the score at 64. Sam Pullen and Richard Moore then set about resurrecting the Warriors innings with an excellent fourth wicket stand of 85 which lifted the Warriors to 3/149 before Moore was dismissed for 27. Pullen was dismissed shortly after for 62, his highest score for Woodside, as the run chase stalled as Woodside finished up at 9/203 from their 45 overs. Warren (4/35) was the pick of the Tigers bowlers with support from some good fielding which produced two run-outs.Hahndorf remain the only undefeated side after seven rounds following a grinding three wicket victory over Nairne at Nairne Oval. Nairne won the toss and decided to bat first and got off to a reasonable start with Sam Rowe (17) and James Graves (6) adding 23 for the first wicket but when both players were dismissed with the score at 23, the Razorbacks were in trouble. Richard Boscence (17) and skipper Luke Timmins (40) then joined forces for the best partnership of the innings as they put on 35 for the third wicket. Duncan Rogers chimed in with 19 not out at the end as the home side were bowled out for 146 in the 45th over. Benny Montgpomerie continued his excellent season with 3/21 to take his season tally to 14 wickets after just six games while Michael Shanahan (3/31) gave great support. It was a real struggle with the bat for Hahndorf despite being 1/50 at one stage with Greg Hassold (16) and Nick Mosey (21) at the crease but a string of wickets reduced the Magpies to a precarious 7/111 and they were in real danger of their first loss of the season. Skipper Kris Dawe was still at the crease and along with Lachlan Huxtable they edged Hahndorf towards victory with an unbroken eighth wicket stand worth 38 runs as the winning runs were knocked off in the 39th over. Dawe finished on 52 not out from 92 balls (5 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s) while Huxtable batted an invaluable 30 balls to finish six not out as Hahndorf extended their unbeaten start to their 2019/20 campaign. McLaren Districts has moved within a win of the top four after defeating Mount Compass by two wickets at McLaren Vale as round five of the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) wound up on Saturday. The Crushers resumed day two on 1/6 in pursuit of Mount Compass’ day one total of 137. Ben Worrall (21) and Daniel Bruce (59) got the home side off to a great start by adding 69 for the second wicket. Two run-outs and some excellent bowling from Josh Murfitt (3/60), reduced McLaren to 6/110 and Mount Compass had a bit of a sniff of an unlikely victory. The Crushers steadied to take the win and move up to sixth spot on the ladder.Willunga have cruised to the first outright victory of the GSCA season with a crushing 10-wicket victory over Myponga at Myponga Oval. The Mudlarks resumed day two at 6/88 in their second innings, a slender lead of 23 runs and the Demons wasted no time in wrapping up the tail to bowl Myponga out for 96 leaving Willunga just 32 runs to get for the outright win. Willunga shared the wickets around with Joel Docking (2/4), Brad Miller (2/7) and Dylan Kay (2/12) the multiple wicket takers. The runs were knocked off in just seven overs as Willunga’s openers Luke Golding (17 not out) and Luke Goldner (16 not out) ensured an early finish at Myponga.Goolwa has consolidated their spot in the top four after notching its third win of the season with a comprehensive 126-run win over local rival Port Elliot. The Magpies were defending their day one total of 5/204 and were untroubled as they bowled the Bloods out for just 78 in 44 overs. Ben Griffiths with 25 (50 balls) was the only batsman to pass 20 for Port Elliot. Opening bowler Josh Jones was the star with the ball for Goolwa snaring 5/13 (16), his eighth five-wicket haul in ‘A’ grade competition. He was ably supported by Jayden Crees who took 3/35 (19).Noarlunga remain undefeated and on top of the ladder following an excellent 92-run victory over Encounter Bay at Noarlunga Oval. The Shoes made 7/218 on day one after a debut century to David Scarff and started day two well, reducing Encounter Bay to 3/34 including the dismissal of opener Jason Parry for 24. No other batsman made double figures except for skipper Cam Lintern who made a fine 61 to hold the innings together. Eventually Encounter Bay were bowled out for 126 by a very disciplined Noarlunga bowling group. Skipper Jason Scarff bowled a marathon 23 overs and captured 5/34 and he was ably supported by Matthew Ray who took 2/53 (19). “It was really pleasing to see my brother David get his first ‘A’ grade hundred last week,” said Noarlunga skipper Jason Scarff. “We’ve always known he can bat and he just went to another level being very patient and playing beautiful cricket shots. Southern Districts’ ‘A’ grade has won their third game of the season after a convincing five-wicket victory over West Torrens on Saturday at Henley Grange Memorial Oval. The win was set up on day one after the Eagles were bowled out for 230 and the Stingrays had reached 2/177 at stumps. The Stingrays resumed day two with Brendan McCormack on 52 and Chris Russo on five needing a further 54 runs for victory and despite losing three wickets before reaching the target, they cruised to the win before declaring at 8/301. McCormack continued on to his seventh ‘A’ grade century eventually reaching 128 from 188 balls (21 x 4’s, 1 x 6). Josh Dascombe with 4/72 (23.1) was the best of the West Torrens bowlers. The home side had 26 overs to bat before the end of the game and reached 2/67 with Bailey Capel top scoring with 31 not out. Sunam Gautam (1/8) and Trent Riddle (1/27) were the wicket takers.The win moves the Stingrays up to seventh position on the SACA first grade ladder and right in the hunt for a finals berth leading into the test match bye this coming weekend. Next round they take on third-placed Adelaide at Glandore Oval with the two-day game starting on December 7.

Aldgate are in a good position after day one of their clash with Mount Lofty at Heathfield Oval as round five got underway in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA). The home side won the toss and elected to bat and it was tough going from the start as the Redcaps slumped to a disastrous 5/21 in the 15th over. Skipper Jordan Neis-Beer showed plenty of grit to make 30 (129 balls) but eventually Aldgate dismissed Mount Lofty for just 72 in the 56th over. Left-arm seamer, Matty Hansen, was the star for the Gaters snaring his best ever figures of 7/26 from a mammoth 23.5 overs. Brian Stephens (1/8) and Jake Turnbull (1/34) were the other wicket takers. Aldgate had 11 overs to bat at the end of the day and at stumps were 1/13 with Mitch Thomas (6 not out) and Turnbull (1 not out) at the crease. Josh Callaghan was dismissed without scoring by opening bowler James Kittel-Neill (1/2).Led by a fourth ‘A’ grade century by opening batsman Luke Tonkin, Meadows posted a large first day total of 318 as they ventured to Flagstaff Hill to take on the Falcons. Meadows skipper Brad Dawe won the toss and decided to bat first with Tonkin and Haydn Reid (29) adding 89 for the first wicket. Tonkin and Brad Dawe then put on 54 for the second wicket before four wickets fell to leave Meadows at 5/175. Tonkin was eventually dismissed for a fine 111. Marko Kovac (52) joined Rohan Reid (80) and these two put the home side to the sword with a damaging 113-run partnership for the sixth wicket which took the score up towards 300. Flagstaff Hill skipper Kyle Petty toiled hard all day to finish with 6/103 from 25 overs. Petty leads the A1 wicket takers list this season with 16 scalps.Kangarilla are in the box seat to reclaim second spot on the HCA ladder after an excellent first day at Bridgewater on Saturday. Reigning premier Langhorne Creek has consolidated its position in the top four with a fourth consecutive victory in the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association (AEHCA) after a tight 11-run home win over Bremer-Callington. Langhorne Creek batted first and struggled all innings to get any meaningful partnerships going with only skipper Matt Tonkin (39), Nathan Wundersitz (32) and Jacob Tonkin(16) reaching double figures as they were bowled out for 136 in the 40th over. Mishal Khan (3/29) was the pick of the bowlers for the Cobras. Khan plays with Port Adelaide in SACA Premier Cricket but as they had the bye, Khan debuted for Bremer-Callington. The visitors run chase began well as they reached 1/41 with Arsalan Eubaid (21) the mainstay of the top order. Wickets fell steadily from then on as the Cobras slipped to 6/81. Khan (60) was holding the innings together as he was joined by Chris Schilling and this pair took Bremer-Callington within sight of victory at 6/117 before the last four wickets fell for just eight runs and the Cobras were bowled out for 125 with 35 balls left. Matt Tonkin (3/12) and Cameron Cox (3/18) were the stars with the ball for Langhorne Creek.Woodside has bounced back after a disappointing loss last week to crush Mount Barker by 189 runs at Woodside Oval. The Warriors batted first and put up a large total of 5/281 from their 45 overs. Veteran Dave Wescombe starred with the willow, notching a rapid half century before being dismissed for 81 from just 52 balls. Wescombe’s knock included 12 x 4’s and 2 x 6’s. There were plenty of useful contributions from a number of Woodside batsmen including Will Worthington (49), James Bradley (46 not out) and Tommy Baldock (35). Ishan Razik (2/24) was the only multiple wicket taker for Mount Barker. The visitors run chase got off to the worst possible start with Chris Paterson dismissed first ball of the innings as the Kookaburras slumped to 5/29. Deklan Porter (26) top scored as Mount Barker were eventually dismissed for just 92 in the 35th over. Dale Robinson (3/25) continued his fine season for Woodside. Robinson now has 12 wickets for the season and is tied in second spot for most wickets in the AEHCA this season. Charlie McDonough also snared three scalps to finish with 3/31.Strathalbyn got a big scare from winless Wistow but managed to hang on for their fifth win of the 2019/20 campaign after a tight 17-run victory at home. The Stallions batted first and were in a big hole at 7/92 with veteran Steve Schofield playing a lone hand in the top order. Schofield finally found an ally in youngster Brayden Gaiter (31) as this pair added an extremely valuable 65 runs for the eighth wicket to lift the home side past 150 before being bowled out in the 43rd over for 165. Schofield finished with the highest score of the innings with 45 (79 balls). Steve Nettle bowled an excellent spell for the Echidnas to finish with 3/17 (9) and he was ably supported by ‘A’ grade debutant Harrison Burgess who took 2/19 (6). Burgess had a good day with the ball after taking 2/6 for Wistow’s under 16’s in the morning at Woodside! Wistow started their run chase well with an opening stand of 33 between skipper Dan Jenner and Liam Willis (10). Jenner was batting beautifully but he needed some support as the Echidnas slipped to 7/96 and seemingly out of the contest. Jenner was joined by Nettle and these two lifted the Echidnas hopes with a battling partnership worth 28 runs before Nettle was dismissed for 10. Jenner batted on and got his side within 18 runs of what would have been a famous victory but he was dismissed for a fine 88 (106 balls) and Wistow were bowled out for 148 with 23 balls remaining. Matt Abbott (3/18) took his season’s tally to 12 wickets for Strathalbyn and he was backed up by spinner Matt Hein (3/27), Gaiter (2/23) and Danny Horan (2/35).Lobethal notched its second win of the season after a comfortable 10-wicket win over Nairne at Lobethal Oval. The home side sent the Razorbacks in and after losing two early wickets, the visitors steadied to reach 2/66 with Richard Boscence (32) and skipper Luke Timmins (18) putting on 48 for the third wicket before a collapse of 5/24 left Nairne in all sorts of trouble at 8/90. Goolwa and Port Elliot celebrated 160 years since the first recorded match between the two clubs as they clashed at Goolwa on the first day of round five in the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) on Saturday. Goolwa won the toss and elected to bat first and they got off to a solid start with a partnership of 38 for the first wicket between Luke Giddings (22) and Josh Jones (33). With the loss of both openers and Jack Ward (16), the game was evenly poised with the Magpies at 3/72. Another good partnership was needed and Andrew Evans (34) and Victor Robertson (47) provided just that with a 65-run union for the fourth wicket. Shaun Burger (32 not out) helped push the score past 200 as Goolwa finished their 70 overs with a competitive total of 5/204. The Port Elliot bowlers toiled hard all day with Ben Griffiths finishing with figures of 2/31 from 18 overs. It was an intriguing day of Cricket at Noarlunga Oval as the reigning premier hosted perennial powerhouse Encounter Bay. Noarlunga batted first and it was soon 1/0 with skipper Jason Scarff out first ball. This brought David Scarff to the crease and he set about resurrecting the innings after another couple of wickets fell to leave the Shoes in trouble at 3/35. Allan O’Connor (20) joined Scarff and this pair added 42 runs for the fourth wicket but at 7/130, Encounter Bay were well on top. Enter Sam Trapolino (38 not out)  and he partnered Scarff to add a very important 88 runs for the eighth wicket which took Noarlunga to a very competitive total of 7/218. Scarff finished up with 120 not out, being at the crease for all but one ball of the innings as he notched his maiden ‘A’ grade century. Riley Puckridge (2/25) and Jonah Magor (2/29) were the multiple wicket takers for Encounter Bay.McLaren Districts hold the upper hand in their contest with Mount Compass after day one at McLaren Vale. Mount Compass won the toss and decided to bat first and they got off to a reasonable start to reach 2/63 at one stage before a collapse of 5/23 saw them slump to 7/86. Bryce Garrard (37) and Aaron Dalitz (33) were the mainstays of the Bulls innings as they finally reached a total of 137 before being bowled out in the 62nd over. Stephen Nairn with 4/28 (15) was the pick of the bowlers for the home side with Ryan McCurrach (2/26) and David Smith (2/28) the other multiple wicket takers. McLaren Districts had to negotiate a tricky eight overs before stumps and unfortunately lost Dyan Howie without scoring when he was dismissed by Michael Tucker (1/2). They will resume day two on 1/6.Willunga are on the verge of an outright victory after a productive day against Myponga at Myponga Oval. After winning the toss and sending the home side in, Willunga rolled through the Mudlarks dismissing them for just 23. Only nine Myponga batsmen were available in the first innings which obviously didn’t help. Simon Roberts (4/4), Luke Goldner (2/5) and Sean McIvor (2/9) all did their bowling averages no harm. The Demons made short work of the target, declaring at 1/88 after just 19 overs with a lead of 65 runs. Rhys Allard (49 not out) and Joel Docking (33 not out) added 82 for the second wicket before the declaration came. Myponga did better in their second dig to finish the day at 6/88, a slender lead of 23 runs. Sean Haverty (33), Steven Jaggard (23) and Ryan Haverty (20) helped add some respectability to Myponga’s day.

Kangarilla has moved into third spot on the ladder after a thrilling four-run win over Flagstaff Hill at Kangarilla Oval on Saturday as round four action wrapped up in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA). Flagstaff Hill resumed on day two at 1/14 in pursuit of Kangarilla’s first innings total of 204. Matt Emes (20) and Will Goulding (35) got day two off to a good start for the Falcons as they took the score along to 1/72 before Goulding was run-out. That brought skipper Kyle Petty to the crease and he set about patiently setting up the run chase. Every time the Falcons looked to have the target in hand, they lost key wickets as the game swung in Kangies favour with Flagstaff Hill at 6/133. Petty was still there and he was joined by Josh Dunlevey as the pair added 29 for the seventh wicket before Petty was unfortunately run-out for 50. Dunlevey took the Falcons to within five runs of victory before he was dismissed to give Kangarilla their second win of the season. Skipper Che Martinsen took 3/47 (17) and he was ably supported by Troy Martinsen with 2/15 (9) and Steve Featherstone finished with 2/30 (18.2) including the final wicket.Stirling moved into second position on the HCA ladder after a comprehensive eight-wicket win over Aldgate at Aldgate Oval. Chasing Aldgate’s day one total of 7/199, the Eagles passed the total for the loss of only two wickets in the 41st over. Regular HCA Meyer Shield representative, Daniel Gonzalez, made a welcome return to form with a fine innings of 93 from just 87 balls (9 x 4’s, 7 x 6’s) and he was involved in a 53-run stand with Ben Zampa (26) for the first wicket and a 93-run union with his skipper Jack Pick (49 not out). Fergus Southon finished on 25 not out. Luke Smet (1/34) and Matty Hansen (1/34) were the wicket takers for a disappointing Aldgate attack.Meadows has maintained its undefeated start to the season with a crushing 129-run victory over Mt Lofty at Meadows Oval. The home side put up an imposing day one total of 242 and the Redcaps were never in the hunt as they slumped to 3/5 inside the first 30 minutes of play on Saturday with Nick Justice, Josh Healey and Jordan Neis-Beer all back in the pavilion. Brad Hutton (30) and Adam Carthew (28) added 43 for the fourth wicket before another collapse left the visitors at 8/76. Peter Giannes (25) lifted the total above 100 before Lofty were dismissed for 113 in the 54th over. After top scoring with 80 on day one, Max Buckley continued his fine match with figures of 3/22 (8). Southern Districts headed to Henley Oval to take on West Torrens as round six action got underway in SACA Premier Cricket on Saturday. The home side won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first and the Eagles got off to a good start through Warren Peters (66) and Bailey Capel (26) as the opening pair put on 51 for the first wicket. Peters carried on after Capel was dismissed and added a further 81 runs for the second wicket with Erik Carrington (36) as West Torrens assumed control at 1/132. A collapse of 6/38 swung the match back in the Stingrays favour before Patrick Fisher (47 not out) lifted the Eagles to a total of 230 as they were bowled out in the 58th over. Lewis Hatchett (5/67) was the star for the Stingrays with his fourth career five-wicket haul. He was well supported by off-spinner Sunam Gautam (3/57) and Trent Riddle (2/42). The Stingrays had 38 overs left to bat on day one and they wasted no time getting into it with skipper Joshua Barrett (89) and Marcus Critchley (25) adding 76 for the first wicket. Barrett continued on as he was joined by Brendan McCormack and the pair put on 91 for the second wicket before Barrett was dismissed. McCormack ended the day on 52 not out with Chris Russo on five. At stumps, Southern Districts had reached 2/177, just 54 runs from taking first innings points. Day two gets underway this Saturday at 10.30am where the Stingrays will push for first innings points and maybe the chance at outright victory which would push them into the top four nearing the halfway point of the season.

Southern Districts’ second grade women have completed an undefeated minor round after a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Adelaide University in the SACA Premier Cricket Twenty20 competition at University on Sunday. The Stingrays had already qualified for the Grand Final on November 30 but they weren’t about to let up as they rolled the home side for just 47 in the 18th over. Alecia Holt (3/8) continued her excellent season and she was well supported by Caitlin Seccafien (2/5), Amy Peterson (2/6) and Cassidy Perkins (2/8). Melanie Britton (31) led the way for University with the bat. The target was knocked off in the 11th over with Narelle Maiolo batting through the innings with 21 not out. The Stingrays first grade had the bye.The Twenty20 Grand Finals will be played on Saturday November 30 with the first grade taking on Kensington at Karen Rolton Oval while the second grade will face Glenelg at Park 25 (Oval 2). Both games start at 10.30am.This Sunday (24 November) sees the 40-over and 50-over competitions start for the second grade and first grade respectively. The first grade host Sturt in a rematch of last year’s Grand Final at Bice Oval while the reigning premier second grade play at the bay against Glenelg.

Meadows posted a very competitive first day total of 242 against Mount Lofty at Meadows Oval as round four action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) got underway on Saturday. Meadows batted first and got off to a good start with Luke Tonkin (47) and Haydn Reid (33) adding 80 for the first wicket. Mount Lofty hit back hard as the home side suffered a mini collapse of 4/27, including the key wickets of skipper Brad Dawe (0) and Rohan Reid (4), to see the match evenly poised with the Bulldogs 4/107. Matt Pethick was doing a fine job and he was joined by Max Buckley and this pair set about putting the innings back on track with a fifth wicket stand of 68 before Pethick was dismissed for 44. Buckley carried on to his highest ‘A’ grade score of 80 (5 x 4’s, 5 x 6’s) as the home side were dismissed in the 70th over. Making his ‘A’ grade debut for Mount Lofty, Xavier Leigh was the standout with the ball taking 5/78 from a marathon 22 overs. Opening bowler Adam Carthew also put in a sizeable stint at the bowling crease to take 3/77 from a whopping 26 overs. Aldgate and Stirling are locked in a tight contest after an even first day at Aldgate Oval. The visitors won the toss and sent the Gaters in to bat and it was a tough grind for the home side as they finished the day at 7/199. Josh Callaghan (25) and Jake Turnbull (21) made promising starts in the top order but failed to capitalise and at 4/77, the game was evenly poised. Frank Clements (48) and Declan Gray (44 n.o.) put on an important partnership of 43 runs for the fifth wicket and Gray continued his patient knock when debutant Luke Smet came to the crease. This pair added 72 off 14 overs for the seventh wicket before Smet was dismissed off the last ball of the innings for 41. Veteran spinner Pete Fryer bowled a huge spell of 28 overs and took 4/76 while there were also wickets to Ben Zampa (1/3), Jack Pick (1/19) and Jacob Kemp (1/24).The clash at Kangarilla Oval between Kangarilla and Flagstaff Hill is also evenly poised after the home side compiled 200 with Flagstaff Hill 1/14 in reply at stumps on day one. Kangarilla won the toss and batted first and they were off to a flyer with Jono Makai (84) and Brodie May (14) putting on 77 for the first wicket. The pressure on the Falcons bowlers didn’t let up as Makai was joined by Matthew Bertelsmeier (40) and this pair added 53 for the second wicket before Makai was dismissed. Makai’s knock was his highest for Kangarilla and included 8 x 4’s and 2 x 6’s as the score raced to 2/142 at Tea. Flagstaff Hill used the Tea break to gather themselves and they came out firing taking the last eight wickets for just 44 runs. Jack Walton was the star for the Falcons with his first ‘A’ grade five-wicket haul as he finished with 5/33 (12). He was ably supported by the ever reliable Jacob Lemon who snared 3/54 (19.3). The Falcons were left to bat seven overs at the end of the day as they finished at 1/14 with Ross Mummery (4) dismissed by Ben Evans (1/5).The round wraps up with day two action getting underway from 1.00pm this Saturday.

Noarlunga have continued their undefeated start to the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) season after a convincing 10-wicket victory over Mount Compass on the turf at Burgess Oval. The home side batted first on day one and could only muster a total of 96. Opening batsman Sheldon Burgess was a standout making 55 and being the eighth batsman dismissed. Bryce Garrard (20) was the only other player to reach double figures. Peter Lamz was miserly with the ball for Noarlunga taking 3/5 (12.4) while Matthew Ray snared 2/21 (13). Noarlunga were untroubled in their run chase as they passed the target without losing a wicket with skipper Jason Scarff (77) and fellow opener Anthony Burgess putting on 132 for the first wicket. Burgess went on to score 105 not out, his first century for the Shoes as the visitors declared their innings at 2/243, a lead of 147 runs. Mount Compass had 41 overs to try and avert losing outright and Noarlunga pushed hard reducing the Bulls to 7/44 but ultimately the home side held on to finish at 8/62 with Matthew Pimlott top scoring with 20. The Shoes used nine bowlers in the second innings with Robert Peat (3/6) and David Scarff (2/15) the multiple wicket takers.Encounter Bay joined Noarlunga in the undefeated ranks after a strong 128-run win at home over McLaren Districts. The day was set up by Encounter Bay’s Sam Hoffmann who top scored with a fine 98. Hoffmann has had an excellent season so far with 230 runs at an average of 76.67. He was well supported by Jonah Magor (36), Jacob Grenfell (27), Mitchell Reilly (25) and Sam Overall (22). McLaren Districts shared the wickets around with Dylan Howie (2/8), Lachlan Cooper (2/23) and Daniel Hoskin (2/56) the leading wicket takers. The home side built their  innings around a string of good partnerships including 63 for the fifth wicket, 58 for the third wicket and 48 for the fourth wicket. Ben Griffiths (65) notched his second half century of the season, skipper Jesse Consalvo made 53 and Brodie Whitbourne contributed 48 as the Bloods declared at 6/261 after 60 overs. Vince Nizzola with 3/54 (16) was the pick of the bowlers for Myponga. The run chase started reasonably well for the Mudlarks as they reached 1/49 before a collapse of 4/7 saw Myponga in trouble at 5/56. Mitch Farquhar (22) and Stuart Kennewell (26 n.o.) battled hard before they were bowled out for 121.  Consalvo was the pick of the bowlers for Port Elliot as he snared 3/30 (9). The Bloods enforced the follow on and Myponga did better in their second dig reaching 1/61 off 22 overs. Michael Mottillo (26) and Kennewell (21 n.o.) were best with the bat.Willunga has won their third game in a row with a hard fought 21-run over Goolwa at Willunga Oval. After being sent in on day one, Willunga were in early trouble as they slumped to 5/42. Luke Goldner was holding the innings together as he fought hard to his half century before being dismissed for 57 (99 balls). He was joined by Bradley Miller (31) in a crucial sixth wicket stand worth 78 runs. Sam McIvor added a handy 23 (21 balls) at the end of the innings as the Demons were bowled out in the 60th over for 157. Jayden Crees bowled an inspirational spell for the Magpies to finish with the fantastic figures of 5/25 from 22.1 overs. The five-wicket haul brought up Crees’ 50th wicket for Goolwa in just 15 matches. The Magpies began their run chase well reaching 1/55 on the back of a solid 51-run second wicket partnership between Luke Giddings (25) and Andrew Evans (23) but a collapse of 5/22 followed to leave the visitors in all sorts of trouble at 6/77.
