Flagstaff Hill completed an undefeated minor round campaign after defeating Noarlunga by 70 points during round 18 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) yesterday. ‘Flaggies’ dominated the minor round, with their average winning margin a whopping 74 points. It was another ominous performance from the Falcons as they won every quarter on their way to a 15.11 (101) to 4.7 (31) triumph. The Falcons had 11 different goalkickers with Sam Jacobs leading the way with three goals (53 for the season). Best players for Flagstaff Hill included Aiden Grayson, Brendan Hillier, Brad Kirk, Josh Rosman and Nathan Beenham. Best players for Noarlunga were Nathan Schulz, Josh Beard, Jake Anderson, Nick Robertson and Bailey Hann.Christies Beach left it to the last game of the season to register their first win of 2023 after defeating Cove by nine points at Bice Oval. It was the Saints’ first win since the 6th of August, 2022. At halftime it appeared Cove would register their sixth victory of 2023 as they led by 14 points, but Christies Beach came out firing in the third term, kicking five unanswered goals, to lead by 19 points at the last change. The Cobras won the last quarter, but it was to no avail as the Saints ran out winners 11.9 (75) to 9.12 (66). Josh Newnham kicked four goals for ‘Christies’, while Lincoln Holder kicked two goals for the Cobras. Christies Beach was best served by Matt Hodge, Newnham, Harrison Butcher, Brad Truscott and Nathan Sable. Best players for Cove included Corey Jackson, Scott Abbott, Jackson Riddle, Kyle Stoldt and Aaron Wordsworth. Reigning premier Reynella warmed up for the finals with a convincing 118-point win against Port Noarlunga yesterday. The Wine Flies led at every change before winning 20.14 (134) to 2.4 (16). Marc Borholm dominated up forward for Reynella with nine goals (45 for the season), while Billy Cook kicked two goals for Port Noarlunga. Best players for Reynella were Tyler Davies, Talon Copley, Dylan Roser, Jack Ball and Tom Schirmer. Best for ‘Porties’ included Jonathan Cook, Gary Karpany and Tom Dix.Happy Valley won their eighth game of the season after defeating Morphett Vale by 48 points yesterday. The two sides will clash again next Sunday in the elimination final at Aldinga. Yesterday, Happy Valley started the game well to lead by 31 points at halftime, before kicking a further five goals to three in the second half to win 14.13 (97) to 7.7 (49). Corey Grocock kicked four goals for the Vikings, while Blake Carter and Khori Mills-Richardson kicked two goals each for the Emus. Mount Compass secured their finals berth for 2023 after defeating fellow finals aspirant Victor Harbor by 24 points at Mount Compass during round 17 action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) on Saturday. The win for the Bulldogs was set up by a dominant first quarter that saw the home side kick 4.4 to 0.0 to take a 28-point lead to quarter time. The rest of the game was even with ‘Compass’ eventually winning 9.8 (62) to 5.8 (38). Klaus Simons, Ziggy Vitkunas and Tom Vitkunas were named best for the Bulldogs, while Tom Pinyon (in his 200th game), Nathan Hicks, Lochie Nash and Ziggy Vitkunas all kicked two goals. Best for ‘Victor’ were Jesse McKinnon, Dylan Kleinig, Mitch Brook, Zac Dowling and Heath Treloar.Langhorne Creek kept their slim finals hopes alive with a crushing 199-point win at home against Goolwa/Port Elliot. The Hawks led by 46 points at quarter time, 92 points at halftime and 158 points at the final change, before winning 32.26 (218) to 3.1 (19). Langhorne Creek had nine different goalkickers with Darcy Clifford (6), Coby Helyar (6), Jarrod Kellock (5) and Jackson Dalitz (4) all getting in on the act. Reece Slape kicked two goals for the Magpies. Clifford, Kellock, Helyar, Lachlan Bates and Troy Blackwell were named best for the dominant Hawks. On a tough day for the Magpies, Ryan Carnelly, Jye Bottroff and Daniel Fry were amongst their best players. McLaren Districts survived a huge scare as they came from behind to defeat Encounter Bay by one point on Saturday. The win wraps up the minor premiership for the Eagles. The Bays got off to a good start to lead by 19 points at quarter time and they were still ahead by 13 points at the last change. With the game slipping away, the reigning premiers swung into action, kicking four goals to one in the final quarter, to win 7.8 (50) to 6.13 (49). Jake Stummer-Harvey was the only multiple goalkicker on the ground with two goals for McLaren Districts. Noarlunga won their 13th game of the season with a 40-point win over reigning premier Reynella during round 17 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) at Old Noarlunga on Saturday. The game was tight at halftime with Reynella holding sway by four points. The Shoes took over in the second half, kicking eight goals to one, to win 11.8 (74) to 5.4 (34). Nick Mott (3), Callum Gaspari (2) and Terry Kathopoulis (2) were the multiple goalkickers for Noarlunga, while their best players included Zac Williams, Jarrad Liebelt, Jake Anderson, Jamison Snelling and Sammual Miller. Best for Reynella were Dylan Roser, Jack Ball, Alex Lawley, Daniel Whitaker and Tyler Davies.Flagstaff Hill continued their undefeated season with a comprehensive 126-point win against Port Noarlunga on Saturday. Reigning premier Flagstaff Hill made a statement to the competition with a hard-fought seven-point win over second placed Port Noarlunga during round 15 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition on Saturday. The Falcons trailed by a point at the last change before kicking the only goal of the final term to win 3.4 (22) to 2.3 (15). Best players for ‘Flaggies’ included Jasmin Partridge, Elizabeth Johnson, Emily Brockhurst, Brooke Watson and Amelia Morriss. Best for ‘Porties’ were Kalahni Howes, Bree Chapman, Jolie Malinowski, Shakira Dolman and Charli Faulkner.Cove kept their finals hopes alive with a comprehensive 168-point win over Hackham last Friday night. The Cobras led by 91 points at halftime and kicked a further 11 goals in the second half to win 25.18 (168) to 0.0 (0). The Falcons led by 73 points at halftime and kicked another 11 goals in the second half to win 22.19 (151) to 0.0 (0). Emily Brockhurst kicked eight goals in a best-on-ground performance for the Falcons, while Tanisha Hodgkison kicked three. Brockhurst has now kicked 50 goals for the season, including 29 in the last three games! Joining Brockhurst in the best players for ‘Flaggies’ were Ebony Scanlan, Elizabeth Johnson, Tia Taylor and Chloe Meyers. Best for Aldinga were Mackenzie Jones, Paige Curtin and Nikki Duggan. Port Noarlunga has all but secured the double chance after defeating Cove by 23 points at Port Noarlunga on Sunday. The Emus won every quarter on the way to a 13.8 (86) to 3.2 (20) victory. Daniel Noble (4), Blake Carter (3), Khori Mills-Richardson (3) and Brian Gill (2) were the multiple goalkickers for the Emus, while Cameron Jarrett and Bailey Pilmore were the goalkickers for the Sharks. Best players for Morphett Vale included Gill, Aiden Baker, Harry Clarkson, Connor Lock and Mills-Richardson. Willunga made it three FP-AG Great Southern Football League ‘A’ Grade Women’s (GSFLW) flags in a row yesterday after they defeated Yankalilla/Encounter Bay by 36 points in the Grand Final at Goolwa. The Demons lost just one game for the season and are the dominant force in the GSFLW. Yankalilla/Encounter Bay, in their first season in the competition as a merged entity, did a great job to come from fourth position on the ladder to reach the decider, but ultimately fell short against the powerhouse Demons. Yesterday, the first quarter was tight with scores locked away at 1.0 (6) apiece at the first change. The Demons put on three unanswered goals in the second term to take a handy 18-point lead to halftime, and kicked another two goals in the second half to run out winners 6.8 (44) to 1.2 (8). Jessica Harris kicked two goals for Willunga, while Molly Watters kicked the only goal for the Stingrays. Best players for Willunga included best-on-ground Cleo Guilfoyle, Tessa Kohn, Lauren Clifton, Emma Leask, Kiara Upitis and Katrice Turner.
