Kangarilla skipper Jake Turnbull has inspired his side to their first win of the season during round five action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) at Meadows yesterday. Turnbull finished with 99 not out from 130 balls (11 x 4’s) as ‘Kangies’ defeated Meadows by six wickets with one ball to spare. Earlier, Meadows had posted 6/193 from their 45 overs with Haydn Reid (60 not out) and Rohan Reid (58) putting on 110 for the fourth wicket. Che Martinsen was the standout bowler for Kangarilla with figures of 3/24 from nine overs. Kangarilla started their run chase well with Turnbull and Steve Featherstone (23) adding 63 for the first wicket. Che Martinsen chipped in with a handy 21 (39), before Ryan Smallman (22 not out) combined with Turnbull for an unbroken fifth wicket stand worth 38 runs to get Kangarilla over the line in the final over. Stirling batted first with skipper Jack Read making a quickfire 78 from 56 balls (8 x 4’s, 5 x 6’s) before departing with the score at 2/108. Tait went on to make 100 from just 65 balls (9 x 4’s, 6 x 6’s), while Summerill finished with 79 from 64 balls (7 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s). But once these two were dismissed, it was all over for the visitors as they lost their last 7/30 to be bowled out in the 40th over for 264. Webb (4/34), Ezekiel Hemming (3/54), McFadyen (2/77) and Pick (1/22) were the wicket takers for Stirling on a highly entertaining day.Mt Lofty moved up to second spot on the HCA ladder following their 65-run win against Aldgate.
