Nairne assured themselves of finals action next month after a comfortable eight-wicket win over Lobethal during round 15 action in the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association (AEHCA) at Nairne yesterday. Lobethal batted first and were in all sorts of trouble at 7/72, before Torsten Skinner (28) joined Sam Graeber in a 72-run eighth wicket stand to lift their side to a total of 169. Graeber top scored with an important 66 from 62 balls (11 x 4’s, 1 x 6). All six Nairne bowlers took wickets with Caleb Walker (2/23), Brodie Clarke (2/28), Chad Harrop (2/32) and Ryan Williams (2/60) the multiple wicket takers. After losing an early wicket, Nairne consolidated with a 120-run second-wicket stand between Thomas Fiebiger and Luke Timmins. Fiebiger top scored with 68 (106 balls), while Timmins made 60 not out (101 balls) as the winning runs came up in the 41st over. Hahndorf consolidated their spot in the top-four with a 77-run win over Strathalbyn yesterday. The Magpies batted first and put up a competitive 9/221 with skipper Dan Jenner (54), Ty Watson (39), Paul Allegretto (32) and Sam Williams (25) all contributing. Tyler Smith (3/31) and Brayden Gaiter (2/51) were the leading wicket takers for the Stallions. Strathalbyn were never in the run chase as they were bowled out in the 40th over for 144. Ash Medhurst (44), Gaiter (22) and Nick Evenden (20) were the leading run scorers for Strathalbyn, while Hudson Judd (4/24), Watson (3/31) and Curtis Montgomery (2/27) were the main wicket takers for the Magpies.  Langhorne Creek all but secured a top-two spot after defeating Wistow by 35 runs at Langhorne Creek yesterday. The home side batted first and were soon in trouble at 2/9. Adam Clements joined Daniel Kropp to add 53 runs for the third wicket before Clements was dismissed for 35 (38 balls). Kropp continued on to top score with 76 (108 balls) as the Creeks posted 7/178 from their 45 overs. Connor Burgess was the pick of the Wistow bowlers with figures of 3/18 (6). Wistow slumped to 5/65 in the run chase as skipper Harry Burgess joined Tim Chynoweth (34) at the crease. This pair put on an important 67 runs for the sixth wicket to lift their side to 5/132 and the Echidnas were now favourites. Unfortunately, the run out of Burgess for 32 (47) precipitated a collapse of 5/11 to see Wistow bowled out for 143 in the 39th over. Langhorne Creek opening bowler Troy Blackwell finished with the excellent figures of 4/19 (8), while Kropp (2/19) and Dan Cleggett (2/22) chipped in with a couple of wickets each.Woodside moved up to fifth spot on the ladder after a comfortable seven-wicket victory against Bremer Callington at Woodside. The Cobras batted first and could only manage 116 before being bowled out in the 37th over. Hamish Wohlschlager (34) and Michael Kudra (28) were the only batsmen to get going for the Cobras. Jeremy Druwitt (4/41) and Chris Baschiera (3/24) were the leading lights with the ball for the Warriors. Woodside were under early pressure at 3/36 with Nathan Fitzgerald (3/28) leading the charge for the Cobras. Veteran Dave Wescombe joined opening batsman Noah Bell (24 not out) to steady the ship through an unbeaten 81-run fourth-wicket stand to see their side home in the 21st over. Encounter Bay moved to the top of the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) ladder after a high scoring three-wicket win over Port Elliot during round 10 action at Port Elliot on Saturday. The home side batted first with a 100-run stand between Tyson Levy and Joel Harris providing the backbone of the Bloods’ innings. Levy top scored with 67 from 60 balls (9 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s), while Joel Harris made 54 from 84 balls (8 x 4’s). Liam Harris (27) and Patrick Dodd (22 not out) made handy contributions as Port Elliot posted 7/198 from their 40 overs. Blake Bailey was the leading wicket taker for the Bays with 3/40 (8). The response from Encounter Bay began shakily as they slipped to 3/37 in the 12th over. Opening batsman Matt Smalley-Harris was joined by Lachie Barrett in a crucial fourth-wicket stand worth 95 runs before Smalley-Harris went for 53 (90). Three quick wickets fell as Port Elliot were back on top again with the Bays at 6/133. Andrew Pacitti (21 off 22) then joined Barrett to take the visitors within sight of victory as Barrett hit the winning runs with five balls to spare. Barrett top scored with 95 not out from 78 balls (6 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s). Six Port Elliot bowlers took wickets with Liam Harris (2/49) the leading wicket taker. Noarlunga moved up to second spot on the GSCA ladder with a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Goolwa at Old Noarlunga. The Magpies batted first with Matt Overall top scoring with 59 from 70 balls (7 x 4’s), while Vic Robertson made 36 (49) as Goolwa finished their 40 overs with 9/134. All five Noarlunga bowlers took wickets with Caleb Baldwin (2/23), Travis Bronstein (2/23) and Sean Williams (2/30) the multiple wicket takers. The Shoes got off to an excellent start through Cam Bullard and Travis Bronstein putting on 101 for the first wicket before Bullard departed for 67 from 47 balls (9 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s). Bronstein continued on to finish on 46 not out (81 balls) as the winning runs came up in the 26th over. McLaren Districts kept their slim finals hopes alive with a four-wicket win at Yankalilla on Saturday. Batting first, Yankalilla got off to an excellent start through openers Lachlan Whittlesea (42) and Aaron Smith (31) as they added 75 for the first wicket. After the opening stand however, it was all McLaren Districts as they took 10/57 to bowl the Tigers out in the 39th over for 132. Left-armers George Beard (3/23) and Chris Beaty (3/23) did the damage for the Crushers, while teenager Kian Labuschagne took 2/19 (8). McLaren Districts were in trouble early on in the run chase at 2/11 before Beaty (38), Justin Twartz (31) and Caleb Mitchell (23) steadied the ship to see the Crushers over the line with seven balls to spare. Chris Clark (2/18) was the leading wicket taker for the Tigers and he was well supported by Doug Jones who took 1/13 from a miserly eight-over spell. Mt Compass consolidated their spot in the top-six with a low-scoring 28-run win at Willunga. Mt Compass batted first and struggled their way to a total of 113 before being bowled out in the 30th over. Riley Tonkin was the only batsman to pass 15 runs as he top scored with 32 (30 balls). All six Willunga bowlers took wickets with Roger I’Anson (3/13), Fletcher Harding (2/24) and Eddie Last (2/32) leading the way. The Demons looked winners as they reached 5/82 through handy contributions from Harding (23) and Lewis Moss (20), but they collapsed to lose their last 5/3 to be bowled out for just 85. Aldgate moved up to third spot on the ladder after defeating Scott Creek Ironbank (SCIB) by three wickets during round 14 action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) at Aldgate on Saturday. SCIB batted first and were in early trouble at 2/24, before Stuart Norton (24) combined with James Wissell to add 41 runs for the third wicket. Wissell went on to make 47 (75 balls), while Darcy Campbell (49 off 48) and Andy Adams (31 off 39) helped lift their side to a total of 205. Connor Payne (4/39) was the leading wicket taker for the Gaters, while Luke Smet (2/30) and Max Bilsborow (2/42) were the other multiple wicket takers. Aldgate were in all sorts of strife as they slipped to 6/102 with Will Quigley-Smith (33) the only top-six batsman to pass 20. Ollie Clements joined Smet at the crease and this pair set off on a rescue mission for the Gaters as they added 86 runs for the seventh wicket. Clements hit a quickfire 60 from 45 balls (2 x 4’s, 6 x 6’s), while Smet finished with 54 not out (68) as the winning runs came up in the 43rd over. Daniel Desengo (2/31) was the leading wicket taker for Scott Creek Ironbank. Mt Lofty are back in the top-four after a four-wicket victory over Uraidla at Heathfield Oval. Uraidla batted first with Luke Schapel (38), Felix Gadomski-Mott (28) and Daniel McDonough (28) getting their side into a good position at 2/89 in the 17th over. That was as good as it got for Uraidla as they lost 8/55 to be bowled out for 144 in the 34th over. Josh Healey (3/16), Max Hawke (3/21), Adam Carthew (2/20) and Anthony Jennings (2/39) were the wicket takers for the Redcaps. Mt Lofty were in all sorts of trouble in the run chase as they slumped to 6/78 with Uraidla opening bowler Simon Parker doing the damage with 3/22 (9). Mt Lofty were saved by an excellent partnership between Connor Milde (24 not out) and Anthony Jennings (34 not out) worth 67 runs to see the home side home in the 36th over. Mt Lofty’s cause was aided by Uraidla conceding a whopping 36 extras. Kangarilla had a very important five-wicket win over Meadows to move within half a game of the top-four. Meadows batted first with Rohan Reid (62 off 85) and Luke Tonkin (29 off 62) the best of the Bulldogs batsmen as they posted 7/157 from their 45 overs. Mount Compass moved up to fifth position on the ladder after defeating Yankalilla by 31 runs at Burgess Oval on Saturday during round nine action in the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA). Shannon Jones top scored for the Bulls with 53 from 65 balls (3 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s), while James Colley (31) and Ethan Anderson (26) made handy contributions towards their score of 7/166 from 40 overs. Yankalilla captain Aaron Smith took 2/21 from seven overs. Yankalilla’s run chase never got going as they slumped to 8/60 with Bailey Baldock (3/34), Adam Blakely (2/0), Riley Tonkin (2/13) and Aaron Dalitz (2/43) wreaking havoc. Trent Starke (39) and Ashley Madden (23 not out) put a bit of respect on the scoreboard as they helped lift their side to a final total of 135. Port Elliot remained top of the ladder after a comfortable 83-run win over McLaren Districts at McLaren Vale. The Bloods batted first and posted a very competitive total of 6/231 from their 40 overs. The star of the innings was all-rounder Ben Griffiths who top scored with 82 not out from 89 balls (7 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s), and he was well supported by Joel Harris (44) with this pair putting on 81 runs for the fourth wicket. Evan Clark (2/34) and Kevin Grant (2/39) were the multiple wicket takers for the Crushers. Grant (33), Matthew Aston (27) and Zac Hodges (25) all made handy contributions, but no batsman went on to make a big score as McLaren Districts were bowled out for 148. Hahndorf moved back inside the top-four on the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association (AEHCA) ladder after a comfortable 71-run win against Woodside at Hahndorf on Saturday. The home side batted first with Sam Williams (46), Ty Watson (44) and Dan Jenner (37) the leading scorers as Hahndorf compiled 9/208 from their 45 overs. Nick Johns (2/19), Shane Druwitt (2/32), Luke Langmead (2/33) and Chris Baschiera (2/36) were the leading wicket takers for Woodside. The Warriors got themselves into a good position at 3/104 through Langmead (52), Noah Bell (26) and Brad Collins (17), before the Magpies took the last 7/33 to bowl the Warriors out for 137. Hahndorf skipper Ryan Trafford-Walker (4/32) was the leading wicket taker for his side, while Watson (3/15) and Paul Allegretto (2/30) were the other multiple wicket takers. Lobethal remained two games clear on top of the ladder after a comprehensive 122-run victory over Bremer Callington at Callington. Lobethal batted first and they were in a bit of trouble at 5/84 with Mitch Weeks (40) the only top-five batsman to make an impact. Displaying their great depth, the Tigers got middle/lower order contributions from Sam Graeber (39), Steve Huxter (35) and Matt Martin (33) to lift their side to a total of 194. Nathan Fitzgerald took 3/31 (8.3) for the Cobras and he was well supported by Graydon Brand (2/38) and Alex Durbidge (2/50). Bremer Callington started well with Jai McMurtrie (31) adding 41 runs for the first wicket with Michael Kudra. Once McMurtrie was dismissed however, Lobethal ran through the Cobras to take 10/31 as the home side were bowled out for just 72. Weeks completed an excellent all-round game with the fine figures of 4/9 from his nine overs, while Dave Huxter (3/18) and Josh Martin (2/1) were the other main wicket takers. Langhorne Creek moved a game clear in second spot after a tight 21-run win at home over Nairne. The Creeks batted first and compiled a competitive 9/199 from their 45 overs. The total was set up by good knocks from Dan Kropp (53), Adam Clements (48) and Cullen Bailey (36). Tigers club legend Ben Warren, playing in his 400th senior game, had to retire hurt unfortunately. Jack May (2/31), Ryan Williams (2/34) and Chad Harrop (2/39) were the multiple wicket takers for the Razorbacks. Nairne battled hard in the run chase and when they reached 4/106, the game was evenly poised. Nick Melvin made 30 (35 balls) for Nairne, while the mainstay of the innings was skipper Zac Llewellyn who top scored with 65 (74). Ultimately, the visitors came up short as they were bowled out in the 40th over for 178. Adam Clements completed a fine all-round double with 4/43 (9) and he was well supported by Kropp who snared 3/22 (7.5). Strathalbyn kept their finals hopes alive with an important 176-run win at Wistow. Sam Teakle (48) and Luke Cousins (45) got the Stallions off to a great start with a 105-run opening stand, before skipper Matt Harris hit a quickfire 78 not out from 58 balls (7 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s) to lift ‘Strath’ to 6/240. Josh Fidler was the absolute standout bowler for the Echidnas with 4/17 from his nine-over spell. Fidler (28) was the only Wistow batsman to reach double figures as they were rolled for just 64 in the 22nd over. Meadows consolidated their spot in the top-two with a tight two-wicket win over Mt Lofty during round 13 action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) at Meadows yesterday. Mt Lofty batted first and got off to a disastrous start as they slumped to 6/43 with skipper Josh Healey (25) the only top-five batsman to reach double figures. The Redcaps badly needed a partnership as Connor Milde (32) joined Ryan Pistola (44) in a 72-run stand for the seventh wicket as Mt Lofty were eventually bowled out for 137 in the 39th over. Lucas Ballantyne (3/13), Aaron Parry (3/34), Brad Louch (2/10) and Callan Blackwell (2/19) were the wicket takers for Meadows. Oscar Tydeman (29) and Bailey Hague (22) got the Bulldogs into a solid position in the run chase, before a middle order ‘wobble’ saw Meadows slip to 7/102. Veteran Chad Dawe stepped up for the home side with a quickfire 36 not out from 28 balls (2 x 4’s, 1 x 6) to get his side home in the 39th over. Great Southern (GSCA) will clash with Alexandra & Eastern Hills (AEHCA) in the H.R Meyer Shield Grand Final at Soldiers Memorial Park in Kingscote tomorrow (26/1) after the completion of the minor round matches today. After defeating Kangaroo Island on day one, Great Southern comfortably defeated Murray Towns (MTCA) by 102 runs at Wisanger today. Great Southern batted first with Travis Bronstein making 85 (95 balls) and Luke Bartlett 70 (100 balls) in an innings-defining 122-run stand for the second wicket. After a middle order ‘wobble’, brought on by a fine spell of bowling from MTCA veteran Dwayne Krollig (4/20), Sean Williams (42) and Paul Fantasia (33 not out) lifted Great Southern to an imposing total of 9/265 from their 50 overs. Camron Jorgensen (3/38) and Umesh Badu (2/34) were the other multiple wicket takers for Murray Towns. Krollig continued his good day, top scoring for MTCA with 53 (78), while Nick Lindner made 25 (42), but ultimately Murray Towns fell well short as they were bowled out in the 44th over for 163. Jack Read (86) and Josh Healey (58) put on 132 runs for the first wicket, while Josh Callaghan (31 not out) and Aaron Thompson (26) made handy contributions. The annual H.R. Meyer Shield started today (Saturday 24 January) with the six cricket associations of the Fleurieu & Districts zone being hosted by the Kangaroo Island Cricket Association (KICA). Today's games were reduced to 20-over contests due to the high temperatures. In a major upset to start the carnival, Murray Towns defeated reigning champion Hills by five wickets at Kingscote. Hills batted first and compiled 7/134 from their 20 overs with Mitchell Thomas (23 not out) and Oscar Tydeman (23) top scoring. Sam Elliott took 3/23 (4) for Murray Towns. The Murray Towns run chase was dominated by opening batsman Zak Muirhead who top scored with a hard-hitting 73 not out from 45 balls (8 x 4’s, 1 x 6), while Riley Vanson (28) and Mitch Walton (18 not out) helped their side to victory with three balls to spare. Steve Featherstone (2/13) and Will Healey (2/20) were the multiple wicket takers for Hills. Great Southern got their campaign off to a winning start with a 29-run win against hosts Kangaroo Island at Parndana. Wistow moved back inside the top-four on the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association (AEHCA) ladder after a thrilling 10-run win against Bremer Callington at Callington on Saturday. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, but were soon in trouble as they slumped to 3/9 in the sixth over. Timmy Chynoweth (17) and opening batsman Jordan Grooby (28) added 60 runs for the fourth wicket, while Cooper Kupke top scored with an important 42 not out (56 balls) as the Echidnas were bowled out in the 43rd over for 139. Nathan Fitzgerald led the Cobras attack with figures of 3/17 off six overs. Bremer Callington got off to an excellent start with opening pair Jai McMurtrie (36) and Michael Kudra (38) putting on 68 for the first wicket. Wistow struck back hard, taking 10/61 to bowl the Cobras out for 129. Strathalbyn got themselves back in the game with some tight bowling as Nairne were reduced to 8/146 with nine overs remaining in their innings. Levi Llewellyn (18) joined Luke Stephenson in a crucial ninth-wicket stand worth 61 runs as the Razorbacks finished with a competitive 9/207 from their 45 overs. Stephenson finished with 37 not out (33). Strathalbyn skipper Matt Harris took 2/27, while Lachlan Cutting snared 2/41. Encounter Bay won their third game in a row after defeating Mt Compass by 116 runs during round eight action in the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) at Encounter Bay on Saturday. The home side batted first and were under a bit of pressure when David Schulze (40 off 52 balls) was dismissed with the score at 3/66. Sam Hoffmann then joined skipper Cam Lintern and this pair added 122 for the fourth wicket before Lintern departed for 44 (70). Hoffmann went on to top score with a hard-hitting 98 from 74 balls (10 x 4’s, 4 x 6’s) as the Bays put up 7/222 from their 40 overs. Aaron Dalitz (3/17), Bailey Baldock (2/39) and Riley Tonkin (2/45) were the multiple wicket takers for Mt Compass. The Bulls were never in the run chase as they slumped to 9/46 with James Colley (33) the standout batsman. Number 11 Bailey Baldock joined Aaron Dalitz (8 not out) at the crease with the last pair adding an unbeaten partnership worth 60 runs to see Mt Compass finish on 9/106. Baldock top scored with 40 not out (57 balls). Chris Butler was the standout Encounter Bay bowler with the fine figures of 6/22 from his eight-over spell and he was well supported by Sunny Osmont with 2/9 (6). Noarlunga won their fifth game of the season after defeating Yankalilla by 85 runs at Yankalilla. The Shoes batted first with Travis Bronstein (36) and Jamie Diener (27) adding 61 for the second wicket, before three quick wickets fell to see Noarlunga at 4/92. Sean Williams joined former premiership skipper Jason Scarff at the crease and this pair put on 97 before Williams departed for 54 (47). Scarff went on to top score with 69 not out from 78 balls (7 x 4’s) as Noarlunga finished with 6/215. Ash Madden (2/30) and Doug Jones (2/44) were the leading wicket takers for Yankalilla. Williams (4/16) started off well with the ball for the Shoes as he took two wickets in the first over to leave the Tigers reeling at 2/0. Wickets fell steadily throughout the run chase with Yankalilla skipper Aaron Smith providing strong resistance as he scored 76 from 97 balls (10 x 4’s, 1 x 6), but ultimately Yankalilla finished on 9/130 from their 40 overs. Scarff was the other multiple wicket taker for Noarlunga with 2/21 (7). Port Elliot remained top of the ladder after a comfortable nine-wicket victory at Willunga on Saturday. Willunga batted first with Dan Hockham (12 not out) and Sammy George (11) the only batsman to reach double figures as they were bowled out for just 67. Seven Port Elliot bowlers took wickets with Levi Stringer (2/12) and Scott Hannam (2/17) leading the way. The Bloods wasted no time in the run chase as they knocked off the target in the 12th over without loss.
