Reigning premiers Port Noarlunga are through to the second semi-final after defeating Flagstaff Hill by 13 points in the Qualifying Final of the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) competition at Morphett Vale yesterday. The game was tight throughout with Flagstaff Hill holding a slender one-point lead at the final change. However, ‘Porties’ finished best, kicking the only two goals of the last term, to win 7.5 (47) to 5.4 (34). Kalahni Howes kicked four goals for the Cockle Divers, while Jessica Couch and Melanie Koster kicked two goals apiece for the Falcons. Best players for Port Noarlunga included Maddy Craggs, Schanna L'Estrange, Nicole Campbell, Howes, Eilish O’Hanlon and Elizabeth Tracey. Flagstaff Hill’s best were Emma Hodgson, Sienna Chapman, Tiana Lush, Brooke May, Koster and Ebony Scanlan.Reynella has made their way through to the second week of the finals series after defeating Blackwood by 22 points in the elimination final at Aldinga yesterday. Sarah Bourne kicked five goals to fire the Wine Flies to an 8.8 (56) to 5.4 (34) victory. Tayla Wright was named best-on-ground for Reynella and she received good support from Sienna Garner, Miller Thompson, Tabitha Melders, Bourn and Isabella Ridings. Encounter Bay warmed up for finals action with a thrilling two-point win over McLaren Districts during round 18 action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) at McLaren Vale yesterday. The Bays were in command for most of the match as they took a 36-point lead into the last quarter. McLaren Districts roared back into the contest with six unanswered goals in the last term, however the Bays held on to win 13.9 (87) to 13.7 (85). Tyson Neale kicked five goals for Encounter Bay, while Matthew Merrett kicked four goals for the Eagles. Best players for Encounter Bay included Jackson Savage, Callum Tonkin, Ambrose Willoughby, Tate Walker, James Brown and Bailey Coleman-Oakes. Meanwhile, best for McLaren Districts were Jackson Daniels, Brett Ellis, Codey Ellison, Merrett, Brodie Long and Jamie Smith.Langhorne Creek notched their seventh win of the season after defeating Goolwa/Port Elliot by 52 points at Goolwa. Jarrod Kellock kicked six goals for Langhorne Creek as they won 19.18 (132) to 11.14 (80). The Demons finished with the minor premiership and a 17-1 win-loss record and earned a week off before playing in the second semi-final on 6 September. Yesterday, Willunga led by 34 points at halftime, before kicking 14 goals to two in the second half to win 21.24 (150) to 4.9 (33). Daniel Nobes was the standout forward on the ground with 10 goals for the Demons, giving him 65 majors for the season. Jack Gilbert kicked two goals for the Roosters. Cove wrapped up the minor premiership in the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) competition after defeating Reynella in a thriller by two points during round 16 action at Hallett Cove last Friday night. It was a tight game with Reynella leading at three-quarter time by three points, before the Cobras kicked two goals to one in the final term to win 3.5 (23) to 3.3 (21). Best players for Cove included Hayley Donnell, Naomi Jones, Dana O'Brien, Ashleigh Need, Angelique Dean and Ella Gill, while Emily Risitano kicked two goals. Reynella’s best players were Sienna Garner, Miller Thompson, Tabitha Melders, Jasmine Bailey, Summer Weir and Elysia Hammond.Aldinga won their fifth game of the season after a one-point win at Blackwood on Friday night. Aldinga outlasted the finals-bound Blackwood side to win 2.6 (18) to 2.5 (17). Willunga wrapped up the minor premiership after defeating Victor Harbor by 33 points during round 17 action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) at Willunga yesterday. It was the 14th consecutive victory for the Demons. The Willunga win was set up by a powerful first half that saw them lead by 33 points at halftime. Each team kicked six goals in the second half as the Demons triumphed 15.6 (96) to 9.9 (63). Liam Nye and Dylan Draper kicked three goals each for Willunga, while Jackson Elmes also kicked three goals for Victor Harbor. Nye was named best-on-ground for Willunga with Sam Renney, Nathan Stark, Daniel Lee, Jake Shirvington and Sean Beath also in the best players. Sam Overall, Ben Heaslip, Mitchell Brook, Michael Ross, Elmes and Heath Treloar were named best for the ‘Roos.Langhorne Creek won their sixth game of the season after defeating Yankalilla by 39 points. Noarlunga pulled off one of the upsets of the season after defeating finals-bound Flagstaff Hill by three points during round 17 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) at Old Noarlunga today. Noarlunga trailed by 13 points at three-quarter time, before kicking 2.5 to 0.1 in the final term to win 7.9 (51) to 7.6 (48). Vic Robertson and Brad Inglis kicked three goals each for the Shoes, while Brad Patterson kicked two majors for the Falcons. Callum Gaspari was named best for the Shoes and he received good support from Nick Mott, Jarrad Liebelt, Aaron Killian, Sam Goldfinch and Bryce Johnstone. Best players for the Falcons included Mitchell Johnson, Ben Rossi, Mason Carney, Ben Jeffries, Casey Davies and Brayden Heyward-Ferors.Ironbank Cherry Gardens won their fifth game of the season after a comfortable 60-point win over Morphett Vale. Cove jumped out the blocks to lead by 20 points at quarter time, before the Falcons worked themselves back into the game to lead by a point at the last change. The Cobras steadied to kick three goals to one in the last term to win 9.3 (57) to 7.4 (46). Ella Gill (3) and Rebecca O’Shaughnessy (2) were the major goalkickers for the Cobras, while Jessica Couch (3) and Melanie Koster (2) were the multiple goalkickers for Flagstaff Hill. Best players for the Cobras included Angelique Dean, Gill, Lauren Kenny, Georgia Hayford, Dana O'Brien and Jemima Buss. ‘Flaggies’ best players were Koster, Tiana Lush, Abbie Butler, Brooke May, Ava Knuckey and Kaitlyn Aldridge.Port Noarlunga kept the pressure on for top spot after defeating Reynella by 41 points yesterday.
