After winning just five games last season, Hahndorf has qualified for the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association (AEHCA) Grand Final after a tight, two-wicket win against Langhorne Creek on Saturday at Langhorne Creek. The home side batted and were under pressure throughout with Ben Warren (32 not out) the only batsman to pass 15 as the Tigers were bowled out in the 32nd over for just 98. Curtis Montgomery snared 3/19 (7) for Hahndorf and he was well supported by Bradey Judd with 2/21 (7). Sam Williams got Hahndorf off to a fast start with a hard-hitting 48 from 36 balls (6 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s), and at 0/47, the game appeared over. Langhorne Creek hit back hard through Brad Clements (3/9) and Troy Blackwell (2/24) as Hahndorf crashed to 8/91, still eight runs from victory. Michael Shanahan (5 not out) and Bradey Judd (4 not out) steadied the run chase for Hahndorf to knock off the winning runs in the 31st over. The Magpies now have the week off before hosting either Lobethal or Langhorne Creek on Saturday 29 March. Reigning premiers Lobethal defeated Woodside by six wickets on Saturday at Lobethal to keep their dreams of four consecutive flags alive. Lobethal will now take on Langhorne Creek in the Preliminary Final, while for Woodside, a positive season comes to an end. Woodside batted first and were in early trouble at 3/19. Noah Bell (30) and Dave Wescombe (40) steadied the ship with a 63-run fourth wicket stand, while Chris Baschiera added 21 (38 balls), before the Warriors were bowled out in the 44th over for 155. The Tigers got off to a great start in their run chase with Mitch Weeks and Tanner King adding 93 runs for the first wicket before Weeks departed for 56 from 57 balls (6 x 4’s). King went on to top score with 75 not out (68 balls), with his innings containing just a solitary four, but a whopping six sixes as the target was reached in the 30th over. Redsox and Strathalbyn played the late game in the second A grade semi-final with Redsox batting first. Strathalbyn started the game well defensively with catcher Gab Martin making an out at first and right fielder Georgia Tomkinson taking two great catches to hold them scoreless with three up three down. Strath’s first turn at bat produced a three baser to Kim Cutting, two baser to Kathy Pash and a single to Martin which brought in three runs with Redsox pitcher/catcher combo of Claire Mohan-Ram to Alex Mackay producing two K2’s and short stop Steph Hull making an out at first.Redsox had safe hits to Kel O’Brien and Erin Adams-McDonald in the second but they could not bring anyone home with Strath’s Tomkinson taking another catch, fielding and throwing to Kathryn Milne at first and short stop Cutting throwing to Peyton Daniels at third to pick off the lead runner holding them scoreless again. Strath drew some errors and had safe hits to Daniels and Milne and with some great base running they brought three runs home with Redsox centre Saskia Charter-Harris taking a catch, right fielder Adams-McDonald taking a catch and third baser Chloe Zakelj making the out at first to end the innings.Zakelj hit a two baser in Redsox third turn at bat and was brought home by a safe hit to Zoe Thompson for the only run of the innings with Strath’s second baser Ashlee Peterson making two outs at first and Cutting making the third out at first base. The third dig for Strath got Tomkinson on base and produced another safe hit to Cutting and with great base running Tomkinson was able to steal home for the only run of the innings with Redsox picking off the lead runner at second, making an out at first and left fielder Thompson taking a catch. The fourth turn at bat for Redsox was scoreless too with Cutting picking off the lead runner at second, taking a catch and Tomkinson taking her fourth catch for the game at right field to end the innings with just four batters up. Redsox really switched on in the field with centre Charter-Harris taking another catch, short stop Hull taking a great line drive catch and second baser Lauren Christensen making the third out at first base to hold Strath scoreless with three up three down.Redsox needed to make runs in the fifth and they got Hull on base who then stole her way to second, advanced to third by Christensen and then stole home but unfortunately she was the only run in with Strath’s left fielder Bianca Pash taking a catch, Peterson making another out at first and a K2 holding them. Strath came in looking for some runs to add to their tally and walk away with a mercy win but Redsox weren’t giving up with a pick off of the lead runner and another catch at right but with some great base running and a two base hit to Daniels they brought runners home to come away with the win Strathalbyn 9 runs to Redsox 2 and head straight into the Grand Final.

Strath brought new pitcher Kathy Pash on and they had success straight away with Daniels now at third taking a catch and then another line drive catch with Pash pitching well for a K2 and three up three down.Strath needed to get runs on the board and in the fifth they decided they needed to bat and they did. Safe hits to Cutting, Pash, Tomkinson, Martin and a two baser to Bianca Pash brought home six runs which now put them in front with Hahndorf making all three outs at first base. Strath needed to hold Hahndorf scoreless and they started well with Tomkinson and K. Pash getting the first two batters out at first base but then Fairley hit a big three baser and was brought home by a safe hit to Georgia Fairley to bring in the winning run. Time and game were called with Hahndorf winning the game 7 runs to Strathalbyn 6. Strathalbyn will head into their finals campaign after finishing second on the ladder after the minor rounds. Strathalbyn v Pirates (‘C’ Grade)In a must win game for both teams Strathalbyn started the batting with safe hits to Elise Duffield and Rebecca Sims and with some walks gained they were able to bring home three runs with Pirates pitcher/catcher combo of Charlene Klenke to Michelle Stewart working well together for three K2’s. In Pirates turn at bat Strath’s first baser Duffield was a safe glove to throw to as pitcher Sims, third baser Brydie Spriggs and short stop Annabel McGregor all fielded and threw to first for three up three down holding Pirates scoreless. The second dig for Strath had a two base hit to Duffield and a three baser to Monica Spriggs which helped two runners cross the plate with Pirates second baser Debbie Taylor making an out at first and another two K2’s to Klenke and Stewart holding them to those runs. Pirates needed to get some runs on the board and they did with safe hits to Leonie Beattie, Klenke and Danielle Hupfield with Tracy Pearce hitting a two baser and Brenae Weiringa a three baser which brought in three runs before Strath’s pitcher Sims took a catch and McGregor fielded and tagged the runner and quickly threw to second baser Sophie VonBlanckensee to get another runner out for a double play. The third dig for Strath had safe hits to Amber Crawford and VonBlanckensee and two basers to M. Spriggs and Sims which pushed runners around the diamond and four over the plate with Pirates short stop Steph Zuzolo taking a catch, another K2 this time to new pitcher Sue Stewart and a tag out by Zuzolo ended the innings. Pirates needed to add runs in the third and they started well with a two baser to M. Stewart and hits to Pearce and Beattie which brought home three runs with Strath’s centre M.
