Reigning premier McLaren Districts are through to the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) Grand Final after defeating Myponga-Sellicks by 20 points in the second semi-final yesterday at Encounter Bay. McLaren Districts led by 16 points at quarter time, before Myponga-Sellicks hit back in the second stanza to take a slender eight-point lead at halftime. The Eagles kicked two goals to one in the third term as scores were tied up at 52 points each at the last change. The Mudlarks were kicking to the scoring end, where 11 of the 15 goals had been kicked, and were confident of finishing strongly and being the first team into the Grand Final. The reigning premiers had other ideas as they bucked the scoring trend, kicking four goals to one in the final term, to win 11.13 (79) to 9.5 (59). Best players for the Eagles included Tom Fenoughty (in his 200th game), Max Gill, Sam Lawrie, Joel Vandeleur and Tarak Redigolo. Best for Myponga-Sellicks were Ben Kennedy, Sam Kennedy (3 goals), Elliot Chalmers, Levi Proude and Dylan Lang.Willunga’s edge-of-the-seat finals campaign will last at least another week after the Demons defeated Victor Harbor by four points in the first semi-final at Goolwa today. Victor Harbor led by eight points at the last change, before Willunga kicked four goals to two in the final term to win 14.13 (97) to 14.9 (93). Job Colwell kicked five goals for Willunga, while Danny Juckers slotted four majors. Sam Basham kicked three goals for ‘Victor’. Flagstaff Hill are through to their seventh Southern Football League (SFL) Grand Final in eight years after a tough 12-point win against Noarlunga in the second semi-final at Bice Oval yesterday. The Falcons led by six points at quarter time, 13 points at halftime, and 18 points at the last change, before winning 11.6 (72) to 9.6 (60). Sam Jacobs kicked three goals for ‘Flaggies’, while Matt Eagles and Callum Gaspari kicked two goals each for Noarlunga. Best players for Flagstaff Hill included Brad Kirk, Nathan Beenham, Mackenzie Short, Adam Bunworth and Jacobs. Best players for the Shoes were Josh Beard, Jake Anderson, Eagles, Jake Birch and Nathan Schulz. Reigning premier Reynella will face-off with Noarlunga in Saturday’s preliminary final after a convincing 61-point win against Morphett Vale at Port Noarlunga today. The first half was low scoring, with just seven goals kicked between the two sides, as Reynella led by 21 points at the long break. The Wine Flies extended their lead out to 22 points at the last change, before kicking seven goals to one in the last quarter to win 15.11 (101) to 6.4 (40). Reynella had 10 different goalkickers with Callan Semple leading the way with three goals, while Blake Carter kicked two goals for Morphett Vale. Noarlunga are through to the second semi-final of the Southern Football League (SFL) after an excellent 20-point win against reigning premier Reynella in the qualifying final at Port Noarlunga on Saturday. The Shoes started on fire to lead by 24 points at quarter time after kicking 4.6 to 1.0 in the first term. The game was pretty even after that with Noarlunga running out winners 11.11 (77) to 8.9 (57). Nick Mott, in just his seventh game of the season, was best-on-ground and he was well supported by Jake Anderson, Jaidan Kappler (4 goals), Josh Beard, Bailey Hann and Nick Robertson. Best players for Reynella included Tyler Davies, Jason Farrier, Daniel Whitaker, Marc Borholm, Lachlan McGuinness and Jack Ball. Morphett Vale won their seventh final in the past three seasons after outlasting Happy Valley by 11 points in the elimination final at Aldinga on Sunday. Happy Valley led by three points at the last change, before the Emus kicked three goals to one in the last quarter to win 9.10 (64) to 7.11 (53). Willunga has knocked Mount Compass out of the finals race after a thrilling one-point win in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) elimination final at Myponga yesterday. Scores were tied at the end of ‘regular’ time, so extra time was needed, with Willunga coming out on top 11.14 (80) to 12.7 (79). The game was tight throughout with scores level at halftime, while Mount Compass held a one-point lead at the last change. Daniel Lee kicked three goals for the Demons, while Mount Compass star forward Tom Pinyon slotted six majors. Daniel Bass was named best player for Willunga and he was well supported by Jack Redden, Sam Renney, Nick Scanlan and Jake Shirvington. Pinyon was named best for ‘Compass’ with support from Ziggy Vitkunas, Jordan Hooper, Shane Heatley and Rilee Endersby.Myponga-Sellicks defeated Victor Harbor by three points to advance to the second semi-final where they’ll face reigning premier McLaren Districts on Saturday. Reigning premier McLaren Districts wrapped up the minor premiership after a convincing 107-point win against Yankalilla during round 18 action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) on Saturday. The Eagles led by 40 points at halftime, before kicking 10 unanswered goals in the second half to win 18.13 (121) to 2.2 (14). The Eagles had 10 different goalkickers including Lachlan Camm and Jamie Smith who kicked three goals each. Tim Dellatorre and Mitchell Schwerdt kicked the two goals each for the Tigers. Best players for McLaren Districts included Sam Lawrie, Todd McKay, Max Gill, Tarak Redigolo and Brett Ellis. Yankalilla were best served by Angus Weir, Jack Fitzgerald and Chris Clark. Encounter Bay finished their season on a high after defeating Strathalbyn by 36 points in a high-scoring contest. The Bays trailed by 15 points at halftime, but kicked 15 goals to seven in the second half to win 21.12 (138) to 15.12 (102). The Bays had 10 different goalkickers including Kyron Pepper (5) and skipper Tyson Neale (4). Ben Simounds kicked six goals for the Roosters to take out the GSFL goalkicking with 71 majors for the season. The Demons led by 34 points at quarter time, 99 points at halftime, and 157 points at the last change, before winning 36.21 (237) to 5.4 (34). Danny Juckers kicked 11 goals for the Demons in a best-on-ground display, while Jed Redden kicked eight majors. James Fry kicked two goals for the Magpies. Flagstaff Hill completed an undefeated minor round campaign after defeating Noarlunga by 70 points during round 18 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) yesterday. ‘Flaggies’ dominated the minor round, with their average winning margin a whopping 74 points. It was another ominous performance from the Falcons as they won every quarter on their way to a 15.11 (101) to 4.7 (31) triumph. The Falcons had 11 different goalkickers with Sam Jacobs leading the way with three goals (53 for the season). Best players for Flagstaff Hill included Aiden Grayson, Brendan Hillier, Brad Kirk, Josh Rosman and Nathan Beenham. Best players for Noarlunga were Nathan Schulz, Josh Beard, Jake Anderson, Nick Robertson and Bailey Hann.Christies Beach left it to the last game of the season to register their first win of 2023 after defeating Cove by nine points at Bice Oval. It was the Saints’ first win since the 6th of August, 2022. At halftime it appeared Cove would register their sixth victory of 2023 as they led by 14 points, but Christies Beach came out firing in the third term, kicking five unanswered goals, to lead by 19 points at the last change. The Cobras won the last quarter, but it was to no avail as the Saints ran out winners 11.9 (75) to 9.12 (66). Josh Newnham kicked four goals for ‘Christies’, while Lincoln Holder kicked two goals for the Cobras.
