Mount Compass consolidated their spot in the top-five with an excellent 35-point win against fellow finals aspirant Myponga-Sellicks during round nine action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) on Saturday. Mount Compass played an excellent first half to lead by 28 points at the long break. The second half was a real slog with both teams kicking one goal each, as the Bulldogs won 7.10 (52) to 2.5 (17). Tom Pinyon kicked four goals for Mount Compass, giving him 34 majors for the season so far. John Butcher and Connor Sampson were the goalkickers for the Mudlarks. Best players for ‘Compass’ included Tom Vitkunas, Nathan Hicks, Will Zimmermann, Klaus Simons and Pinyon. Best for Myponga-Sellicks included Scott Ogilvie, Dylan Lang, Anthony Kempster, Ryan Kelly and Kain Spinks.Victor Harbor moved inside the top-three with a comfortable 49-point victory at Langhorne Creek. The home side started well to lead by nine points at quarter time, before a seven-goal second term saw ‘Victor’ take a handy 27-point lead to halftime. A further nine goals to five in the second half saw Victor Harbor win 19.10 (124) to 11.9 (75). The ‘Roos had nine different goalkickers with Sam Overall kicking five goals in a best-on-ground display. Caleb Howell and Malakai Kartinyeri kicked three goals each for the Hawks. Joining Overall in the best players for Victor Harbor were Jesse McKinnon, Michael Ross, Jackson Elmes and Kane Cooper. Best players for Langhorne Creek included Jack Keynes, Mitch Cleggett, Tom Derham, Matt Dominish and Howell. Strathalbyn kept the pressure on for a top-five spot with a 48-point win at Encounter Bay. The first half was close with ‘Strath’ taking a slender three-point lead at halftime. The Roosters took control in the second half, kicking nine goals to two, to win 15.5 (95) to 7.5 (47). Riley Clamp and Ben Simounds kicked four goals each for Strathalbyn and Tyson Neale kicked three goals for Encounter Bay. Flagstaff Hill reached the halfway mark of the season on top of the ladder and undefeated after beating Noarlunga by 10 points during round nine action in the Southern Football League (SFL) at Old Noarlunga on Saturday. The Falcons started well, kicking six first-quarter goals, to lead by 22 points at the first change. Noarlunga won the last three quarters, kicking six goals to three, but ‘Flaggies’ prevailed 9.10 (64) to 8.6 (54). Sam Jacobs and Nathan Beenham kicked three goals each for Flagstaff Hill, while Callum Gaspari was a standout for the Shoes with five goals. Best players for the Falcons were Adam Bunworth, Brad Kirk, Kobe Cavouras, Ryan Mountford and David Kearsley. Noarlunga’s best were Gaspari, Josh Beard, Nathan Schulz, Bailey Hann and Nick Robertson.Morphett Vale won their second game in a row with a 14-point win at Happy Valley. The game was close throughout with Morphett Vale holding a slender four-point lead at the last change. McLaren Districts moved up to second spot on the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) FPAG ‘A’ Grade Women’s ladder after defeating Yankalilla/Encounter Bay Stingrays by 35 points at Encounter Bay last Friday night. The Eagles led at every change before running out winners 8.7 (55) to 3.2 (20). Caitlin Ross (3) and Layla Rogers (2) were the multiple goalkickers for McLaren Districts, while Annabella Walden kicked two goals for the Stingrays. Best players for McLaren Districts were Katie Whish, Ross, Jessica Hutton, Katrina Munzberg and Rogers. The Stingrays were best served by Chloe Howlett, Jemma Ellis, Walden, Jaimi Griffen and Dakota Oniszk.Reigning premier Willunga moved another step closer to the minor premiership following their 26-point win against Goolwa/Port Elliot. The Mudlarks led by 10 points at the last change, before holding on to win 3.6 (24) to 2.5 (17). Courtney Gum, Charlotte Collins and Tasiah Wright were the goalkickers for Myponga-Sellicks. Rachel Wood and Rosie Shaw kicked the Magpies’ goals. Grace Deacon, Carla Humphrys, Tara Ludlow, Collins and Sophie Magor were named as best players for the Mudlarks. The Falcons kicked the only goal of the last quarter but ultimately fell short as the Cockle Divers won 4.9 (33) to 4.4 (28). Samantha Lynch kicked two goals for Port Noarlunga, while Elizabeth Johnson also kicked two goals for Flagstaff Hill. The ‘Roos kicked eight goals to seven in the second half to win 17.7 (109) to 12.3 (75). Victor Harbor skipper Jesse McKinnon was best-on-ground and he was well supported by Heath Treloar, Jackson Elmes, Dylan Kleinig and Tom Neville. Michael Ross kicked four goals for the ‘Roos, while Rhys Mutch and Sam Overall kicked three goals each. Adam Hunter, Lochie Nash, Tomas Vitkunas, Matthew King and William Zimmermann were named best players for Mount Compass. Ben Simounds was a star up forward for the Roosters with seven goals, giving him 27 for the season. Strathalbyn skipper Marc Elliott and Mitchell Godfrey kicked three goals each, as did James Hargreaves for the Tigers. Veteran Mark Tucker was named best for the Roosters and he was well supported by Simounds, Cooper Machin, Jacob Wright and Jack Gilbert. Goolwa/Port Elliot got off to an excellent start as they led by 22 points at quarter time. Langhorne Creek hit back in the next two quarters to take a slender two-point lead at the final change. The Hawks proved too strong in the end, kicking four goals to two in the last quarter, to win by 10 points. Caleb Howell kicked three majors for the Hawks, while Justin Watson also kicked three goals for the Magpies. The game was tight throughout with Morphett Vale leading by just one point at the last change. Each side kicked three goals in the last quarter as the Emus held on to win 10.4 (64) to 9.7 (61). Dylan Williams starred up forward for the home side with five goals, while Lincoln Holder kicked three goals for the Cobras. Goolwa/Port Elliot are up to second spot on the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) ladder following their six-point win against McLaren Districts during round eight action of the FPAG ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition at Yankalilla yesterday. The Magpies got off to a great start with three goals in the opening term to lead by 16 points at the first break. The next two quarters were even but Goolwa/Port Elliot still led by 18 points with a quarter to go. The Eagles wouldn’t go away and kicked the only two goals of the final term as the Magpies held on to win 4.1 (25) to 2.7 (19). Indiana Quaremba kicked two goals for Goolwa/Port Elliot, while Sally Fuller also kicked two goals for McLaren Districts. Renee Moon, Cassie Burrows, Tamra Sanders, Indi Miller and Tessa Grant were named best players for the Magpies. For the Eagles, Layla Rogers, Caitlin Ross, Katrina Munzberg, Ally Bailey and Emily Rowe were named their best players. Yankalilla/Encounter Bay won their fourth game of the season after defeating Myponga-Sellicks by just six points at Yankalilla. In a low-scoring affair, the Stingrays prevailed 2.6 (18) to 2.0 (12). Erin Smith kicked two goals for Yankalilla/Encounter Bay, while Chelsea Farr and Carli Morton kicked the Mudlarks’ goals. Best players for the Stingrays included Jaimi Griffen, Annabella Walden, Elena Earl, Jemma Ellis and Georgia Weatherspoon. Former AFLW player Courtney Gum, in her first game for Myponga-Sellicks, was named their best player and she was well supported by Grace Deacon, Nari Wright, Chelsea Farr and Carli Morton.Willunga remained top of the ladder with a 47-point win at Victor Harbor on Friday night. The final scores were Willunga 7.5 (47) to Victor Harbor 0.0 (0). Skipper Tamara Page kicked three goals for the Demons, while Emily Steele kicked two majors. Fresh off their first win last week, Noarlunga hosted reigning premier Flagstaff Hill at Old Noarlunga on Saturday during round five action in the Southern Football League (SFL) ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition. The Falcons, who also won their first match last week, got off to a fast start to lead by 36 points at quarter time. A further 13 goals to one in the last three quarters, saw Flagstaff Hill win 20.13 (133) to 2.3 (15). Amber Cloughessy kicked eight goals for ‘Flaggies’ and she was well supported by Emily Brockhurst who snared seven majors. Steph Alderman, after three goals last week, and Elyshiah Forrest were the goalkickers for the Shoes. Best players for the Falcons were Elizabeth Johnson, Cloughessy, Emily Brockhurst, Rachel Crockart and Amelia Morriss. For the Shoes, Colette Barnard, Megan Weetra and Forrest were amongst their best players. Christies Beach won their fourth game of the season with a tight 13-point win against Port Noarlunga in a top-three clash at Bice Oval today. The Saints led at every change before winning 5.4 (34) to 3.3 (21). Chelsea Salvemini was the only multiple goalkicker on the field with two goals for ‘Christies’. Isabella Zito was named best player for the Saints and she was well supported by Angelique Dean, Brina Thompson-Fitzgerald, Salvemini and Mia Dunn. Best players for ‘Porties’ included Elisha Scriven, Kaitlyn Millhouse, Shakira Dolman, Bree Chapman and Jessica Couch.Reynella moved to the top of the ladder following their 51-point win against Cove Cobras at Hallett Cove. The Wine Flies led by 15 points at quarter time, 31 points at halftime, and 45 points at the last change, before winning 6.17 (53) to 0.2 (2). Georgia Scholes kicked two goals for Reynella, while their best players were Indiana Barbour, Anja Bancevic, Morgan Blackwell, Zannah Loxton and Ella Besley. Best players for the Cobras included Cally Swalue, Dana O’Brien and Tamara Harrison.Hackham won their first game of the season with a comfortable 63-point win against Aldinga. Hackham led by 19 points at halftime and kicked a further six goals in the second half to win 9.10 (64) to 0.1 (1). Claire Wheeler (3) and Tayla Christopher (2) were the multiple goalkickers for the Hawks. Katelyn Wilson, Ellie-Louise Ellingham, Kristy Thomson, Wheeler and Maddison Hay were named as best players for Hackham.
