Aldinga won their first game of 2023 with a thrilling four-point win at Morphett Vale during round seven action in the Southern Football League (SFL) yesterday. Morphett Vale started well to lead by 15 points at halftime, and they were looking good for their second win of the season. The Sharks had other ideas as they kicked four goals in the third term to reduce the margin to a solitary point at the last change. The last quarter was a real arm wrestle with Aldinga kicking the only goal to win 8.9 (57) to 7.11 (53). Sam Bentley was named best for Aldinga and he was well supported by Mitchell Jarrett, Brady O’Hanlon, Jack Langdon and Matthew Beinke. The Emus’ best were Blake Carter, Jack Dal Santo, Max Sampson, Harry Clarkson and Scott Carpenter.Noarlunga continued their unbeaten start to 2023 with a 21-point home win against Happy Valley. Myponga-Sellicks won their fifth game of the season with a 66-point victory at Langhorne Creek during round seven action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) yesterday. Myponga-Sellicks led by just four points at quarter time, before kicking six goals to two in the second quarter to take a handy 28-point lead to halftime. It was more of the same in the second half as the Mudlarks kicked a further nine goals to three to win 16.8 (104) to 5.8 (38). Jayden Scott was a star for Myponga-Sellicks with seven goals in a best-on-ground performance, while Darcy Clifford kicked two goals for the Hawks. Joining Scott in the best players for the Mudlarks were Ryan Kelly, Harrison Cock, Nathan Hedger and Scott Ogilvie. Western Districts skipper Lleyton Hedges led the way up forward with five goals, and he was well supported by Josh Graham and Lloyd Coulson who kicked three goals each. Cove won their second game in a row following a tight six-point win against Happy Valley during round five action in the Southern Football League (SFL) yesterday. In a high-scoring affair, Cove prevailed 14.11 (95) to 13.11 (89). Scott Grieve kicked four goals for the Cobras, while Ryan Need kicked three. Alistair Fleming and Jack Flett kicked four goals each for Happy Valley. James Farrugia, Grieve, Damian Roach, Aaron Wordsworth, and Need were named best for Cove. Best for the Vikings included Dwayne Ruddock, Matthew Lillis, Fleming, Joel Beeche, and Flett.Flagstaff Hill continued their unbeaten start to 2023 with a comfortable 65-point win at Aldinga. The Falcons led by 23 points at halftime, before kicking a further eight goals to two in the second half to win 14.12 (96) to 4.7 (31). Flagstaff Hill had nine different goalkickers including Blake Aldridge (3), Aiden Grayson (2), Sam Smith (2), and Brayden Heyward-Ferors (2). Tom Pilmore kicked two goals for the Sharks. Best players for the Falcons were Heyward-Ferors, Kobe Cavouras, Brad Kirk, Reece Milsom, and Grayson. Bailey Marshman was the leading goalkicker on the ground with four goals for Reynella, while James Conlon kicked two goals for the Saints. Marc Borholm was best on ground for Reynella and he was well supported by Sam Whitbread, Marshman, Tyler Davies, and Jason Farrier. Rhys Mundy, Nathan Stock, and Tom Truscott were amongst the best players for Christies Beach.Port Noarlunga won their second game of the season following a 40-point win at Morphett Vale. The game was tight in the first half as the Cockle Divers took a three-point lead to halftime. It was all Port Noarlunga in the second half as they kicked eight goals to three to win 13.15 (93) to 6.17 (53). Oliver Petrohilos kicked four goals for ‘Porties’, while Khori Mills-Richardson kicked three goals for the Emus. Morphett Vale won their first game of the season after defeating Christies Beach by a solitary point during round four action in the Southern Football League (SFL) on Saturday. In a low-scoring affair, Morphett Vale prevailed 5.10 (40) to 5.9 (39). Blake Carter kicked three goals for the Emus, while Harrison Butcher also kicked three goals for the Saints. Best players for Morphett Vale included Robert Schindler-Taylor, Connor Lock, Michael Smith, Liam Corrie, and Daniel Bode. Christies Beach was served best by Josh de Roode, Butcher, Kyle Daris, Josh Semmens, and James Conlon. Cove also won their first game of the season with a tight eight-point win against Aldinga at Hallett Cove. Aldinga started brightly to take a handy 19-point lead at the first break, before the Cobras got into the game in the second term to cut the margin to just five points at halftime. Aldinga still held sway at the last change with the margin still a narrow five points, before the Cobras finished strongly, kicking three goals to one in the last quarter, to win 7.11 (53) to 6.9 (45). Brady O’Hanlon from Aldinga was the only multiple goalkicker on the ground with two majors. Best players for Cove included Aaron Wordsworth, Riley Jones, Michael Galley, Corey Jackson, and Jayj Butler-Chaseling. Aldinga’s best were Tyler Stewart-England, Angus Stangewitz, Jack Langdon, Luke Watson, and Ryder Kortman. Flagstaff Hill maintained their unbeaten start to 2023 with a comfortable 62-point win against Happy Valley. The Falcons held sway in the first three quarters, but the margin was only 23 points at the last change, and the Vikings were still in with a 'shout' for victory. ‘Flaggies’ had other ideas as they piled on the pressure to kick eight goals to two in the final term, and win 15.13 (103) to 6.5 (41). Key recruit Sam Jacobs kicked three goals (16 for the season), as did 150-gamer Michael Shearer and Sam Smith. The Falcons were well served by David Kearsley, Reece Milsom, Josh Rosman, Ryan Mountford, and Leith Mitchell. Mount Compass consolidated their spot in the top-three with a thrilling six-point win against Willunga during round four action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) at Mount Compass on Saturday. Willunga started well to lead by 22 points at halftime. ‘Compass’ kicked three goals to two in the third term, but the margin was still a handy 19 points at the last change in favour of the Demons. With the home crowd behind them, the Bulldogs rattled home, kicking four goals to none, to prevail 11.10 (76) to 10.10 (70). Ziggy Vitkunas kicked three goals for Mount Compass, while Jed Redden and Ryan Sherry also kicked three goals for Willunga. Best players for Mount Compass included Adam Hunter, Ziggy Vitkunas, Tom Pinyon, Lochie Nash, and Brent Creek. Willunga were best served by Danny Juckers, Jed Redden, Sherry, Daniel Bass, and Alex Bowley.   Encounter Bay won their first game for 2023 with a comfortable 67-point win against Goolwa/Port Elliot at Goolwa on Saturday. The Bays led at every change before winning 16.8 (104) to 5.7 (37). Bradley Kreuger and Mason Middleton kicked four goals each for the Bays. Middleton was named best on ground for Encounter Bay and he was well supported by Connor Hills, Krueger, Tyler Baldock, and James Brown. Daniel Fry, James Fry, Ryan Carnelly, Josh Slape, and Jacob Hughes were named best for the Magpies.Langhorne Creek moved inside the top-five with a big 137-point win at Yankalilla. The Hawks led by 18 points at quarter time, 62 points at halftime, and 76 points at the last change, before kicking 10 unanswered goals in the final quarter to win 25.12 (162) to 3.7 (25). The Hawks had plenty of goal scoring options with vice-captain Caleb Howell kicking six goals, Mitchell Cleggett snared five majors, while best-on-ground Malakai Kartinyeri slotted four goals. Joining Kartinyeri in the best players for Langhorne Creek were Jarrod Kellock, Howell, Tom Derham, and Shannon Jones. Best players for the Tigers included James Hargreaves, Chris Clark, and Jesse Fitzgerald. Reigning premier McLaren Districts won their 24th consecutive game after defeating Strathalbyn by 49 points at McLaren Vale. It was a big day at the Eagles Nest with the club celebrating the 20-year anniversary of their 2003 ‘A’ grade premiership. On Saturday, McLaren Districts won every quarter on their way to a 19.12 (126) to 11.11 (77) win. The Eagles had nine different goalkickers with Joel Chahla (5), Lachlan Camm (4), and Leon Groves (3) leading the way. Ben Simounds kicked four goals for the Roosters and Fletcher Duffield and Jake Stafford kicked two majors. Best players for the Eagles were Codey Ellison, Billy Chahla, Sam Lawrie, Joel Chahla, and Max Gill. Best for the Roosters were Stafford, Marc Elliott, Cooper Machin, Mitchell Godfrey, and Austin McFarlane. Myponga-Sellicks won their third game of the season with a 28-point win against Victor Harbor under lights at Myponga on Saturday night.
