Langhorne Creek consolidated their spot in the top-five after a thrilling six-point win against Willunga during round five action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) at Willunga yesterday. Willunga, hunting down their first win for 2024, led by 11 points at the last change, before the Hawks kicked six goals to three in the final term to win 13.8 (86) to 11.14 (80). Caleb Howell and Matt Uebergang kicked three goals each for Langhorne Creek, while Braden Altus also kicked three goals for the Demons. Best players for Langhorne Creek were Tom Derham, Matt Dominish, Howell, Jake Yard, Jarrod Kellock and Henry Bruce. Willunga was best served by Daniel Bass, Tom Messenger, Cameron Hutchens, Altus, Izaac Logan and Tyson Schmid.Reigning premier McLaren Districts won their third game of the season after a comfortable 54-point win at Yankalilla yesterday. Yankalilla started well to take a 14-point lead at quarter time, before the Eagles hit back to lead by 13 points at the main break. A further 10 goals to four in the second half saw the Eagles win 15.16 (106) to 8.4 (52). McLaren Districts had 10 different goalkickers with Codey Ellison slotting four majors. Scott Biddle was named best for Yankalilla and kicked five goals. Wisanger had 10 different goalkickers with Sam Clifford and Khyal Stead kicking six goals each. Eli Kuchel and Will Stanton were the goalkickers for the Roosters. Best players for Wisanger were Luke Shurven, Liam Sampson, Jason Fryar, Clifford and Timmy Turner. The Cockle Divers led at every change to win 12.18 (90) to 10.6 (66). Clinton Calyun kicked three goals for ‘Porties’, while Jake Dorshorst and Thaddeus Puautjimi kicked two goals each for the Emus. Best players for Port Noarlunga were Brodie Smith, Eduard Van den berg, Aaron Peterson, Rhys Mckay, Charley Wiseman and Khalan Ortmann. Cove had 12 different goalkickers with Alesia LeDuff kicking seven majors to lead the way. Rebecca Jutilane-Maynard and Emily Risitano also chipped in with four goals each. The ‘Roos kicked 11 goals in the first quarter, 10 goals in the second term, and 12 goals in the third quarter, before slamming on 17 majors in the last stanza to win 50.29 (329) to 0.1 (1). Victor Harbor had 12 goalkickers with Harry Vincent kicking 11 goals in a best-on-ground performance. He was ably supported by Sam Basham (10), Michael Ross (8) and Daniel Stock (5), while Ben Heaslip, Jesse McKinnon and Zac Dowling were also in the best players. Aldinga worked their way back into the game over the next two quarters, but the visitors still held a 20-point advantage at the last change. Jayden Scott kicked seven goals in a best-on-ground performance, while Jayden Morton kicked five majors for the Cobras. After a tight opening quarter where the Cobras led by just one point, they kicked eight goals to two after the first change to win 9.14 (68) to 3.0 (18). Jaime Norup and Emily Risitano kicked three goals each for Cove, while Amie Veneman, Dakota Dwyer and Charlotte Carter kicked the goals for the Hawks. Cove were best served by Jaymie Savaidis, Norup, Alesia LeDuff, Angelique Dean, Jemima Buss and Breanna Stoldt. McLaren Districts inflicted Willunga’s first loss of the season with a low-scoring seven-point win at Willunga on Saturday night during round five action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition. McLaren Districts led by three points at halftime, before winning 2.6 (18) to 1.5 (11). Caitlin Ross and Ebony Woodward kicked the goals for the Eagles, while Bella Rigby was the sole goal kicker for the Demons. Best players for McLaren Districts were Ross, Lilian Booij, Lisa Whiteley, Ally Bailey, Alycia Hepburn and Taylah Scapens. Kirstin Remfrey, Jodie Hunt, Courtney Gutschmidt, Frankie Stone, Rigby and Ada Anninos were named best for Willunga.Goolwa/Port Elliot remained undefeated after a comfortable 76-point win against Myponga-Sellicks last Friday night. The Magpies led by 14 points at quarter time, 40 points at halftime, and 50 points at the last change, before winning 11.10 (76) to 0.0 (0).
