Mount Compass defeated Willunga by 18 points at Mount Compass on Saturday during round seven action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) to move top of the ladder and in the process, ended the unbeaten run of the Demons. It was a much anticipated clash between the two undefeated sides in the GSFL and it didn’t disappoint. Both sides were inaccurate in the first term with Willunga leading by 13 points at the first break. ‘Compass’ hit back in the second quarter to go to the halftime break with a slender two-point lead, before Willunga again took the lead at the last change by five points. Willunga’s lead could easily have been greater but for an inaccurate 3.8 for the quarter. Mount Compass showed their class in the final term as they kicked five goals to one to win 15.10 (100) to 10.22 (82). Tom Pinyon was best on ground for the Bulldogs with seven goals, giving him 39 for the season so far. Ziggy Vitkunas also chimed in with four goals for Mount Compass. Cam Hutchens kicked three goals for the Demons. Other good players for Mount Compass included Matthew Skrypek, Peter Hoban, Nick Mott and Shane Heatley. Best for Willunga were Braden Altus, James Collier, Hutchens, Lachlan Scott and Cameron McDonald. An after-the-siren goal to Riley Clamp saw Strathalbyn win a thriller against Victor Harbor by five points. ‘Strath’ were in control at the three quarter time break as they held a 21-point lead with a quarter left. The Kangaroos came home hard, kicking four of the first five goals of the last term, until Clamp stepped in to seal the win for the Roosters, 11.12 (78) to 10.13 (73). Clamp and Ryan Clarke each kicked three goals for Strathalbyn while Billy Wade and Sam Basham kicked two goals each for Victor. Richard O’Grady, Clamp, Xavier Redden, Mark Tucker and Lachlan Butler were best for the Roosters. For Victor Harbor, Rhys Bartram, Heath Treloar and Billy Wade were among their best players.Langhorne Creek consolidated third spot on the GSFL ladder with a comfortable 83-point win against Myponga-Sellicks at Myponga. The reigning premier led by 30 points at halftime before kicking a further 11 goals to three in the second half to win 19.15 (129) to 7.4 (46). David Warren kicked four goals for the ‘Creeks’ while Caleb Howell kicked three majors. Sam Kennedy kicked three for the Mudlarks. Ben Arbon, Howell, Warren, Matt Dominish and Darcy Clifford were best for Langhorne Creek. Sam Kennedy, Jake Spinks and Jordan Kennedy were among the Mudlarks’ best players.McLaren travelled down to Goolwa on Saturday and came away with an impressive 62-point win. The first quarter was tight with the highly fancied McLaren outfit leading by just four points at the first break. The game was completely opened up in the second term as the visiting Eagles slammed on seven goals to zero to lead by a handy 48 points at halftime. A further seven goals to four in the second half saw McLaren win 17.6 (108) to 6.10 (46). Jordon Mutton kicked eight goals for the Eagles, giving him 20 from his past three games. Brett Ellis kicked four goals for McLaren in a best on ground performance. Sam Priest kicked two majors for the Magpies. Joining Ellis in the best players for McLaren were Alex Moyle, Sam Lawrie, Mutton and Stephen Branson. Goolwa/Port Elliot were best served by Rory Hausser, Ben Cummings and Daniel Fry.Encounter Bay moved into fifth position with a comfortable 49-point win at Yankalilla. The Bays were never threatened as they won 12.17 (89) to 6.4 (40). Encounter Bay skipper Tyson Neale and Nick Marshall each kicked three goals for the winners while Patrick Fittock also kicked three for the Tigers. Cove moved inside the top four on the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) ladder after defeating Hackham by 107 points on Sunday during round five action at Hallett Cove. The Cobras led by 29 points at quarter time, 45 points at halftime and 81 points at the last change before winning 15.18 (108) to 0.1 (1). Edith Kosztovits kicked five goals for the Cobras and she was well supported by Felicity Oliver (4) and Alesia Leduff (3). Best players for Cove were Oliver, Kosztovits, Mikala Graham, Renee Ullrich and Dana O’Brien. The consistent Alana Browne was best for Hackham along with Hannah Crump, Courtnie Noble, Stacey Deans and Katelyn Hayes-Phillips.Reynella maintained their undefeated start to the season with a comfortable 103-point victory against Aldinga at Reynella Oval yesterday, The Wine Flies led by 46 points at halftime before kicking a further eight goals to zero in the second half to win 15.13 (103) to 0.0 (0). Rebecca Denyer continued her good recent goalkicking form as she slotted four goals for Reynella to give her 17 majors in her past three outings. Emily Woods also chimed in three goals of her own. Caitlin Williams, Woods, Ella Besley, Grace Doran and Renee Wurfel were the best performing Reynella players. For Aldinga, Eilish O’Hanlon, India Hamdorf, Vanessa Chambers, Jemma Looyesten and Kiara Lovett fought it out until the final siren.Reigning premier Flagstaff Hill consolidated second position with a 52-point home win against Port Noarlunga. ‘Flaggies’ won every quarter to win 8.11 (59) to 1.1 (7). Dudley United have skipped a game clear on top of the Kangaroo Island Football League (KIFL) ladder following their 37-point win over previously undefeated Wisanger at Penneshaw on Saturday. The clash between the two top sides in the competition lived up to expectations for the first three quarters with Dudley United hanging on to a six-point lead at the last change. Dudley United really turned it on for their home fans in the last quarter as they kicked 8.3 to 3.2 to win a high-scoring affair, 20.12 (132) to 15.5 (95). Kyron Pepper kicked five goals for the Eagles with support from Brodie Howard and Clayton Willson who each kicked four goals. Luke Shurven was a star up forward for Wisanger as he kicked eight goals to take his season tally to 14 from three games. Sam McLeay, Nathan Dickson, Edward Colley, Matthew Houchin and Brent Kirby were named best players for the undefeated Eagles. Reigning premier Flagstaff Hill went top of the ladder following a comprehensive 62-point victory against the previously undefeated Reynella Wine Flies during round seven action in the Southern Football League (SFL) on Saturday. It was a tight first half with Flagstaff Hill holding sway to lead by 10 points at halftime. It was all the reigning premier after halftime as they booted 13 goals to five to win 18.10 (118) to 8.8 (56). The Falcons had plenty of avenues to goal with 11 different goalkickers, led by Bradley Patterson who slotted three majors. Callan Semple also kicked three goals for Reynella. Mitchell Johnson, Patterson, Sam Tharaldsen, David Kearsley and Brayden Heyward-Ferors were best for the rampant Falcons while for Reynella, Bailey England, Steven Farrelly and Robert Irra were among their best.Noarlunga won their third game of the season and moved to fourth spot on the ladder following their 45-point victory at Old Noarlunga against Morphett Vale. The game never reached any great heights with both defences on top. It took until the third quarter for Morphett Vale to register their first major, but amazingly they only trailed by 12 points at the last change. The game really opened up in the last term with the Shoes kicking seven goals to two to win 11.8 (74) to 3.11 (29). Vic Roberston kicked four goals for Noarlunga and Reece Martell slotted three. Steven Byrne kicked two of the Emus’ three goals. Clinton Calyun (4), Daniel Loveridge (3), Ben Stokes (3) and Dylan Williams (2) were the multiple goalkickers for Port Noarlunga while David Kinnear slotted three for the Cobras. Victor Harbor won their second game of the Great Southern Football League Women’s (GSFLW) season with a comfortable 49-point win against Encounter Bay at Willunga on Sunday. After a scoreless opening term, Victor kicked three goals in the second quarter to lead by 21 points at halftime. The Bays kicked their first goal of the game in the third term through Keeley Round but Victor increased their lead to 30 points at the last change before winning 8.7 (55) to 1.0 (6). Tyla Millard starred with four goals for the Kangaroos and was named in the best players along with Skye Kartinyeri-Sumner, Chloe Colman, Deb Beaton and best on ground, Jaimee Millard. Best for Encounter Bay was Amber Grahame, Chelsea Walker, Teagan Stewart, Zoe Lush and Kayla Jade Lang. Mount Compass continued their undefeated start to the season with a tough 15-point win over a gallant Strathalbyn outfit at Mount Compass. It was a low scoring contest with ‘Compass’ winning 3.2 (20) to Strathalbyn 0.5 (5). Taylar McGrath, Kelly Haverty and Kiahni Russell were the goalkickers for the Bulldogs. The consistent Demi Sharp was best for Mount Compass. Sharp has been named in the best players in seven of the eight games so far this season. Natasha Hunt, Kimberly Robinson and Nari Wright kicked Yankalilla’s goals. Layla Rogers, Peters, Ross, Emily Rowe and Ruby Flanagan-Sjoberg were best for the winners while for the Tigers, Jemma Ellis, Wright, Amelia Bilney, Emily Sowter and Chloe Howlett were their best.Willunga kept the pressure on top side Mount Compass with their fifth win on the trot after accounting for a gutsy Goolwa/Port Elliot to the tune of 35 points in the late game at Willunga on Sunday. Jessica Harris, Cleo Guilfoyle and Shae Archbold all kicked two goals each for the Demons. Tracey O’Donnell was the Magpies’ sole goalkicker. Reigning premier Flagstaff Hill moved to third spot on the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) ladder after defeating Cove by 32 points at Flagstaff Hill on Sunday. It was a tight first half with ‘Flaggies’ leading by just seven points at halftime. The Falcons took over after the long break as they kicked 4.2 to 0.1 to win 7.5 (47) to 2.3 (15). For the second game in a row Emily Brockhurst was the star up forward for Flagstaff Hill with five goals. Vanetta Renfrey and Kelsey Rodman were the other goal kickers for the winners. Felicity Oliver and Alesia Leduff kicked the Cobras two goals. Zoe Walker-Roberts, Chloe Meyers, Taylah Revink, Brockhurst and Alana Baker were best for Flagstaff Hill. Cove were best served by Mikala Graham, Seraphina Moon and Emma Fitzpatrick.Aldinga won their first game of 2021 with a tight four-point win against a gallant Port Noarlunga in a low-scoring affair at ‘Porties’. Port Noarlunga led by seven points at the first change before Aldinga led by four points at halftime. And that’s how it ended with Aldinga hanging on to win 1.6 (12) to 1.2 (8). India Hamdorf kicked the only goal for Aldinga and she was also named in the best players along with Amber O’Hanlon, Ayla Regione, Jessika O’Hanlon and Eilish O’Hanlon. It was the second week in a row that Eilish O’Hanlon had been named best player for the Sharks. For the second time this season Bridie Nye was named best for the Cockle Divers and she was well supported by Stephanie Rallis, Emma Matonia, Genevieve Lawless and Madison Harris. Nye also kicked the only goal for Port Noarlunga.Christies Beach sit just percentage behind top side Reynella, who had the bye in round four, following their comprehensive 70-point win at Hackham. Christies Beach were inaccurate in the first half as they kicked 5.8 but still led by 38 points at halftime. A further six goals to one in the second half saw the Saints take out the win 11.11 (77) to 1.1 (7). Brooke O’Brien kicked four goals for Christies Beach with Casie Coombe and Indiana Flynn also hitting the scoreboard as they kicked three goals apiece. Emily Hateley-Watson was the only goal kicker for the Hawks. Coombe was named best on ground for Christies Beach with Neriah Milis, Rachael Farlam, Flynn and Emma Dumbill in support. McLaren moved back inside the top five following their tight 12-point win against Yankalilla during round six action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) on Saturday. Yankalilla has suffered some big losses recently while McLaren had lost their past three games by a combined total of only 28 points. It was a much-improved performance from Yankalilla but ultimately McLaren won their third match of the season 13.11 (89) to 11.11 (77). Jordan Mutton kicked six goals for the Eagles and James Grimley chipped in with three majors. Jack Fitzgerald, Lindsay Thomas and Patrick Fittock all kicked two goals for Yankalilla. Brett Ellis continued his excellent season to be named best for McLaren. He was ably supported by Mutton, Tom Fenoughty, Tom Harms and Joel Vandeleur. Joel Kay, Chris Clark, Joseph Tyllis, Thomas and Jack Fitzgerald were named in the best players for the Tigers.Willunga continued on their merry way as they won their sixth game in a row with a comfortable 92-point win at Encounter Bay. The final scores were Willunga 20.11 (131) to Encounter Bay 6.3 (39). The Demons sit atop the GSFL ladder with a whopping percentage of 398.20! On Saturday, the Demons had 12 different goalkickers including Tyson Hoffmann (3), Jake Standfield (3), Cam Hutchens (2), Myles Warmington (2), Sean Beath (2) and Daniel Bass (2). New recruit Brian Fenton was named best for the Demons and he was joined in the best players by Warmington, Hutchens, Billy Cook and Harrison Mills. Hamish Tonkin, Cohen Pettitt and Ben Gibbs were best for the Bays.It was a high scoring affair at Langhorne Creek on Saturday as the Hawks defeated Victor Harbor by 71 points to consolidate third spot on the GSFL ladder. 44 goals were scored with Victor Harbor’s Sam Basham slotting eight majors and Mitch Cleggett from Langhorne Creek kicking seven goals. The final scores were Langhorne Creek 28.6 (174) to 16.7 (103). The reigning premier had many good players including Ben Arbon, Jake Dominish, Curtis Perrey, Matt Dominish and Troy Blackwell. Victor Harbor was best served by Billy Wade, Dylan Kleinig and Leslie Weetra. Goolwa/Port Elliot travelled to Myponga and had their first win of 2021 as they defeated the Mudlarks 14.11 (95) to 8.8 (56) by 39 points. Magpies playing-coach Todd Miles kicked four goals while Jesse Bates and Trent Griffen kicked two goals each. Jayden Scott, Sam Kennedy and James Hutchinson each kicked two goals for Myponga/Sellicks. Aisea Raikiwasa continued his excellent month of football to be named best for the Magpies. He was ably supported by James Fry, Dale Cuthbert, Brad Prior and Jesse Bates. Kane Andrewartha, Harrison Cock and Tyler Daniell were among the Mudlarks’ best.Mount Compass joined Willunga as the only undefeated sides after round six as they fought off a tenacious Strathalbyn outfit at Strath on Saturday. Mount Compass won 16.10 (106) to 11.15 (81) and now will turn their focus to a blockbuster contest against Willunga this Saturday. The Mount Compass forward line was once again a threat on Saturday with Tom Pinyon and Ziggy Vitkunas each kicking five goals for the Bulldogs, while Matt Skrypek chipped in with three majors. Austin McFarlane also kicked three goals for Strathalbyn. Vitkunas was best for Compass along with Michael Corbett, Lewis Johnston, Skrypek and Brandon McKenzie. Aldinga won their second game of 2021 following their 11-point win at Port Noarlunga during round six action in the Southern Football League (SFL) on Saturday. Incredibly it was the first time in 71 years that the Sharks had tasted victory against the Cockle Divers. The game was tight all day with Aldinga leading by two points at quarter time and one point at halftime. Port Noarlunga hit the front at the last change by two points but the margin could have been greater as Port Noarlunga had 18 scoring shots to Aldinga’s 11 as the teams turned for home. Aldinga lifted in the last term to kick four goals to two and come away with a 10.8 (68) to 7.15 (57) victory. Timmy Sumner continued his good season as he kicked four majors for the Sharks. Bailey Pilmore also kicked four goals for Aldinga. Dylan Williams was the only multiple goalkicker for the Cockle Divers with three goals. Angus Stangewitz was named best for Aldinga and he was ably supported by Byron Sumner, Tyler Flintham, Jack O’Hanlon and Michael Balas. Russell Curyer, Paul Randall and Aaron Peterson were among ‘Porties’ best. Reynella remained undefeated and on top of the ladder following a hard fought 22-point win against Happy Valley at Reynella. The home side got off to a fast start to lead by 38 points at halftime but the Vikings came right back into the contest in the third term to see scores locked up at the last change. The undefeated Wine Flies, with support from their home crowd, steadied to kick 4.3 to 0.5 in the last quarter to win 11.9 (75) to 7.11 (53). Reynella’s win sets up a huge clash next Saturday against the other undefeated team in 2021, Flagstaff Hill. Bradley Potter and Callan Semple each kicked three goals for Reynella while Josh Dwyer Sterzl kicked four goals for Happy Valley. Bailey England, Nick McLean, Potter, Robert Irra and Jason Farrier were best for Reynella. For Happy Valley, James Hay, Caleb Dolman and Dwayne Ruddock were among their best players.Morphett Vale are back on the winning list with a convincing 58-point victory against Cove on Saturday at Hallett Cove. Morphett Vale started strongly as they kicked 11 goals in the first half to take a 45-point lead to the long break. A further five goals to two in the second half saw the Emus win 16.9 (105) to 6.11 (47). Goolwa/Port Elliot won their third game of the Great Southern Football League Women’s (GSFLW) season with a 69-point win against Victor Harbor to move up to fourth spot on the ladder. The Magpies started well to lead by 39 points at halftime before winning 10.10 (70) to 0.1 (1). Kate Whiting and Isabella Ramsey each kicked two goals for Goolwa/Port Elliot. Best players for the Magpies were Megan Hoad, Whiting, Rachel Searle, Kerrie-Ann Moon and Catherine Griffen. Victor was best served by Jaimee Millard, Tegan Yeomans, Courtney Marks, Skye Kartinyeri-Sumner and Lottie Pehi.Willunga consolidated second spot on the ladder following their comprehensive 146-point win over Encounter Bay at Victor Harbor. Willunga led by 42 points at quarter time, 80 points at halftime and 107 points at the last change before winning 23.8 (146) to 0.0 (0). Shae Archbold had a day out kicking eight goals while Jessica Harris chimed in with six majors. Katrice Turner continued her consistent season to be named best player for the Demons. She was well supported by Archbold, Jodie Hunt, Lauren Clifton and Caitlin Radbone. Kate Sanders, Teagan Stewart, Delia Althorp, Katharine McPhee and Michelle Lang battled hard for the Bays.McLaren won their fifth game of the season with a 44-point win over Strathalbyn. McLaren got off to a flyer as they kicked 5.0 to 0.0 in the first term to lead by 30 points. The remainder of the game was tight and low scoring as the Eagles won 7.4 (46) to 0.2 (2). Layla Rogers and Sally Fuller each kicked two goals for McLaren while Jessica Veasey, Caitlin Ross, Rogers, Tessa Cunningham and Ruby Flanagan-Sjoberg were named in the best players. For Strathalbyn, Morgan Tucker, Emily Eglitis, Emma Chapman, Indigo Miller and Melanie Cross were their best.Mount Compass maintained their undefeated status, but not before getting a big scare from their opponent Yankalilla. Mount Compass started well to take a handy 14-point lead at quarter time. Yankalilla kicked two goals to one in the second term to reduce the margin to 11 points at the long break. Yankalilla continued their good form into the ‘premiership quarter’ as they kicked a further two goals to one and turned for home just five points in arrears of the ladder leader. Mount Compass showed their class as they pulled away in the final stanza, kicking three goals to zero, to win 7.11 (53) to 4.3 (27). Heidi Smith kicked three very important goals for the winners while Kimberly Robinson and Dakota Oniszk each kicked two majors for the Tigers. Kiara Upitis was named best player for the undefeated Mount Compass outfit with support coming from Stacey Dale, Georgina Thomas, Demi Sharp and Megan Tilby. Happy Valley won their third game on the trot with a convincing 99-point win against Christies Beach during round five action in the Southern Football League (SFL). Happy Valley got off to a fast start to lead by 30 points at quarter time and extended their lead out to 54 points by halftime. The Vikings continued on their merry way after halftime as they kicked a further 11 goals to three to win 21.7 (133) to 4.10 (34). New recruit Ben Geytenbeek continued his good start to the season as he kicked six goals, giving him 23 for the season. Josh Dwyer-Sterzl also kicked six goals for Happy Valley while Jack Flett kicked three . Bailey Short and Keelan Boehm each kicked two goals for Christies Beach. Jaxon McGregor-Dey, Scott Rademacher, Dwyer-Sterzl, Joel Beeche and James Hay were named in the best players for the Vikings. Jacob Crate, Aidan Coakley and Aiden Fitzgibbons were among the best for a disappointing Saints outfit.Flagstaff Hill had a huge percentage-boosting win against Cove to consolidate second spot on the ladder. The Falcons kicked a whopping 38.16 (244) to Cove’s 5.7 (37) to win by 207 points. It was an entertaining first quarter with 10 goals scored with Flagstaff Hill taking a 17-point lead to the first break. From that moment on it was all ‘Flaggies’ with the five-time reigning premier kicking an incredible 32 goals to one in the last three quarters. The Falcons had 11 different goal kickers with Daniel Webb (8), Daniel Butcher (6), Ryan Mountford (5), Sam Smith (4) and Mitchell Johnson (4) leading the way. Jayden Morton kicked two majors for the Cobras. Michael Shearer, Webb, Johnson, Sam Tharaldsen and Butcher were best for a dominant Flagstaff Hill outfit. Cove were best served by Alex Shaw, Hayden Kernahan, Alex Marra, Scott Grieve and Michael Galley.Reynella are looming as the biggest threat to Flagstaff Hill’s dominance as they continued their undefeated start to the season with an impressive 44-point win at Morphett Vale on Mother’s Day. Reynella got off to a fast start as they kicked 5.2 (32) to 0.2 (2) in the first quarter. The Emus fought back in the second term to reduce the margin to 27 points at the long break. They could have been even closer had they not kicked an inaccurate 3.7 for the term. Reynella went on with the job after halftime, kicking nine goals to six, to win 17.8 (110) to 9.12 (66). Reynella shared the goals around with Robert Irra kicking four goals for the winners. Jonah Dolman kicked three goals for Morphett Vale. Dylan Roser continued his excellent season for the Wine Flies to be named their best player and he was well supported by Tyler Davies, Jason Farrier, Irra and Boyd Austin. Morphett Vale’s best were Aiden Baker, Daniel Bode, Scott Carpenter, Connor Mulloy and Julian Mardigan.Noarlunga moved up to fourth spot on the SFL ladder following their 28-point win against Aldinga. The Shoes led by 21 points at quarter time and by 20 points at halftime. Aldinga managed to kick six goals after halftime with Noarlunga kicking an inaccurate 5.16 to win 11.23 (89) to 9.7 (61). Vic Robertson and Terry Kathopoulis each kicked two goals for Noarlunga while Timmy Sumner and Jason Martin also kicked two goals for the Sharks. Sam Carlyle continued his consistent season to be named best for the Shoes along with Jake Anderson, Matthew Fry, Tailen Hobson and Shane Stagg.
