Happy Valley provided one of the upsets of the season after defeating reigning premier Flagstaff Hill by five points during round 13 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) at Flagstaff Hill yesterday. The Vikings played an excellent first half to lead by 32 points at the long break. ‘Flaggies’ came home hard, kicking seven goals to three in the second half, but ultimately Happy Valley prevailed 10.9 (69) to 9.10 (64). Liam O’Connor kicked three goals for the Vikings, while Blake Aldridge and Brad Patterson kicked two goals each for the Falcons. Matthew Lillis was named best for Happy Valley and he was well supported by Billy Wilson, Max Gill, Tate Coleman, Joel Beeche and Tain Smelt. Flagstaff Hill was best served by Reece Milsom, D’Arcy Mitchell, Zakaria Cavouras, Aiden Grayson, Ethan Wildman and Brayden Heyward-Ferors.Christies Beach won their fifth game on the trot after defeating Reynella by 13 points yesterday. ‘Christies’ started the game on fire to take a 33-point lead at the first break and they extended their margin out to 39 points at halftime. Reynella worked their way back into the contest with a five goal to two third term, but the Saints had done enough as they ran out winners 13.8 (86) to 10.13 (73). Christies Beach had 11 different goalkickers with Zak Short and Mackenzie Nield kicking two goals each. Bailey Marshman, Callan Semple and Matthew Stanford also kicked two goals each for the Wine Flies. Best players for the Saints included Nield, Austin Hogg, Thomas Paparella, Brad Jackson, Aidan Coakley and Jordan Hunnable-Ford. Reynella was best served by Cameron Kirkland, Tom Schirmer, Jack Ball, Jacob McDonald and Sam Whitbread.Cove and Aldinga played out the first draw of the 2024 season at Hallett Cove yesterday with both teams finishing on 10.12 (72). Aldinga held a handy 16-point lead at the last change, before the Cobras kicked the only three goals of the last term to tie things up. Jayden Scott kicked four goals for Aldinga (38 for the season), while Jayden Morton kicked three goals for Cove. Best players for Aldinga included Sam Bentley, Tom Pilmore, Thomas Boreham, Scott O'Dea, Harrison Jarman and Cooper Rose. Best for the Cobras were Ryan Need, Kyle Stoldt, Jackson Riddle, Saij Claringbould and Rhys Pasut.Noarlunga kept their finals hopes alive after a comfortable 41-point win against Morphett Vale. The Shoes won every quarter to claim victory 14.8 (92) to 8.3 (51). Tom Anderson (4), Jamie Grosser (3) and Nick Mott (2) were the leading goalkickers for Noarlunga, while their best players were Josh Beard, Jake Birch, Jamison Snelling, Mott, Tom Anderson and Beau Donaldson. Emus skipper Aiden Baker kicked four goals and their best players included Brian Gill, Baker, Connor Lock, Khori Mills-Richardson, Connor Panozzo and Toby Irlam.Port Noarlunga has all but sewn up the double chance after a convincing 146-point win against Ironbank Cherry Gardens. The Cockle Divers led by 49 points at halftime, before kicking a further 17 goals to two in the second half to win 28.17 (185) to 6.3 (39). Zac Sproule kicked 10 goals for ‘Porties’ to give him 50 majors for the season, while Nathaniel Paredes kicked six goals in a best-on-ground performance. Myponga-Sellicks moved up to third spot on the ladder after defeating Willunga by eight points during round 13 action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) this afternoon at Willunga. The game was tight throughout with the Mudlarks leading at each change before winning 10.7 (67) to 9.5 (59). Darren Shillabeer kicked three goals for Myponga-Sellicks, while Ryan Sherry also kicked three goals for Willunga. Best players for the Mudlarks included Mitchell Wilkins, Sam Kennedy, Jake Spinks, Anthony Kempster, Jack Cooper and Connor Sampson. Best players for the Demons were Braden Altus, Harrison Mills, Job Colwell, Cameron Hutchens, Sherry and Sean Beath.Mt Compass won their fifth game of the season with an upset nine-point win against finals-bound Encounter Bay. The Bulldogs held a handy 19-point lead at halftime, before winning 7.11 (53) to 6.8 (44). Tom Pinyon kicked three goals for ‘Compass’, while Ben Davis kicked two goals for the Bays. Brandon Mckenzie, Tom Vitkunas, Lochie Nash, Shannon Jones, Ziggy Vitkunas and Pinyon were named best for Mt Compass, while for Encounter Bay, Jarran Crabb, Marcus Lippett, Davis, Tyler Baldock, Callum Tonkin and Andrew Fyfe were named their best players. Langhorne Creek consolidated their position in the top-five after defeating Yankalilla by 31 points today. The Hawks were in command at halftime as they held a handy 30-point lead. The second half was an even affair as Langhorne Creek won 16.11 (107) to 11.10 (76). Jarrod Kellock snagged five majors for the Hawks, while Scott Biddle kicked three goals for the Tigers. Best players for the victorious Hawks included Tom Derham, Kellock, Josh Towk, Henry Bruce, Tyler Follett and Tasman Follett. Aldinga won their second match of the season after upsetting finals-bound Port Noarlunga by 11 points during round 12 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) at Aldinga on Saturday. The Sharks got off to a great start to lead by 25 points at halftime, before the Cockle Divers closed the gap to 11 points at the last change. Each team kicked one goal in the final term as Aldinga won 7.11 (53) to 5.12 (42). Jayden Scott was the only multiple goalkicker on the field with two goals for the Sharks. Best players for Aldinga included Scott O'Dea, Mitchell Jarrett, Luke Watson, Ryan Parry, Reece Johnstone and Harrison Jarman. Port Noarlunga was best served by Joshua Johns, Eduard Van den berg, Nathaniel Paredes, Tyler Hathaway, Zachary Sproule and Jonathan Cook.Christies Beach won their fourth game on the trot after a comfortable 64-point victory against Ironbank Cherry Gardens. The win moves the Saints up to fourth spot on the SFL ladder. The win was set up by a dominant second quarter from ‘Christies’ as they kicked five unanswered goals to lead by 40 points at halftime. A further six goals to three in the second half saw the Saints get up 13.14 (92) to 4.4 (28). Brad Jackson (4), Harrison Butcher (3) and Rhys Mundy (2) were the leading goalkickers for Christies Beach, while Jayden Rea kicked two goals for the Thunderers. Harry Caught, Clayton Wise, Butcher, Mackenzie Nield, Jackson and Thomas Kirwan were named in the best players for Christies Beach. Best for Ironbank Cherry Gardens included Chase Wooley, Rea, Mitchell Davis, Zane Lewis, Isaac Hoepfl and Jacob Hoepfl.Reynella and Happy Valley played out a thriller at Happy Valley on Saturday as the Wine Flies prevailed by just three points. Amy Veron kicked two goals for the Mudlarks as they won 5.10 (40) to 3.0 (18). Akira Whelan kicked all three of Victor Harbor’s goals. Charlie Shaw-McMillan, Tasiah Wright, Veron, Grace Deacon, Nari Wright and Genevieve Liston were named best players for Myponga-Sellicks, while for ‘Victor’, their best were Rebecca Baga, Georgia Garrett, Chloe Byrne, Aloura Kirk, Deb Beaton and Annabelle Yelland.McLaren Districts won their 11th game of the season after a comfortable 64-point win against Goolwa/Port Elliot yesterday. Taylah Scapens kicked three goals for the Eagles as they won 10.5 (65) to 0.1 (1). Scapens was joined in the best players for McLaren Districts by Emily Rowe, Lisa Whiteley, Makenzie Bryowsky, Cadence Bryowsky and Layla Rogers. Cove won their fourth game in a row following an 84-point win against Hackham during round 11 action in the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) competition at Hackham on Sunday. The Cobras led throughout to win 13.12 (90) to 1.0 (6). Emily Risitano kicked six goals for Cove and she was well supported by Ella Gill who kicked three. Tallara Power kicked the only goal for the Hawks. Best players for Cove included Angelique Dean, Gill, Ashleigh Need, Naomi Jones, Hayley Donnell and Breanna Stoldt. Reigning premier McLaren Districts inflicted ladder-leader Victor Harbor’s first loss of the season following their 48-point win at McLaren Vale during round 12 action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) yesterday. The Eagles won every quarter on their way to a 15.17 (107) to 9.5 (59) victory. Cameron Jarrett kicked four goals for McLaren Districts, while Sam Basham kicked three majors for Victor Harbor. Daniel Marr was named best-on-ground for the triumphant Eagles and he was well supported by Sam Lawrie, Lachlan Mathews, Matthew Merrett, Jamie Smith and Luke Mitton. Best players for Victor Harbor included Jesse McKinnon, Matthew Wiese, Harry Vincent, Kane Cooper, Heath Treloar and  Tarquin Brown.  Yankalilla won their third game of the season after defeating Goolwa/Port Elliot by 54 points at Goolwa yesterday. The Tigers led at every change to win 14.9 (93) to 5.9 (39). Joel Kay was the standout forward on the day with five goals for ‘Yank’. Best players for Yankalilla included Jack Fitzgerald, William Hogben, Liam Gerber, Kay, Bailey Gaskin and Karlson Kantilla. The Magpies were best served by Ryan Carnelly, Dene McKinlay, Kai Iwao, Ken Angus, Fred Nissen and Brock Donaldson.Myponga-Sellicks kept their top-three hopes alive following their 41-point win at home against Mt Compass. It was a low-scoring first half with just four goals scored as ‘Compass’ led by one point at halftime. The Mudlarks took over in the third quarter, kicking six goals to two, to take a handy 25-point lead into the final term. A further five goals to three in the last quarter saw Myponga-Sellicks win 13.12 (90) to 7.7 (49). Darren Shillabeer kicked four goals for the Mudlarks, giving him 63 goals for the season, while Tom Pinyon kicked three goals for the Bulldogs. Willunga led by just six points at halftime, before kicking four goals to one in the second half to win 8.6 (54) to 4.8 (32). Jessica Kirk and Bella Rigby kicked three goals each for the Demons, while their best players were Kirstin Remfrey, Caitlin Radbone, Kirk, Rigby, Cleo Guilfoyle and Tamara Page. Best players for the Eagles included Taylah Scapens, Caitlin Ross, Sheena Peters, Abby Woodward, Katrina Munzberg and Layla Rogers.Yankalilla/Encounter Bay consolidated their spot in the top-four with a comfortable 38-point win against Victor Harbor at Yankalilla on Sunday.
