Willunga celebrated their 150th birthday in style with their first win of the season, a comprehensive 106-point win over Mt Compass, during round eight action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) at Willunga yesterday. The Demons led by 21 points at quarter time, 52 points at halftime, and 71 points at the last change, before winning 18.8 (116) to 1.4 (10). Ryan Sherry (5), Dylan Draper (4) and Cam McDonald (2) were the multiple goalkickers for Willunga, while Cody Connor kicked the only goal for the Bulldogs. Best players for Willunga were Cameron Hutchens, Braden Altus, Brady McDonald, Harrison Mills, Jackson Collins and Jake Renney.Strathalbyn won their third game of the season after defeating Yankalilla by 17 points yesterday. Ben Simounds kicked five goals for the Roosters as they won 12.10 (82) to 8.17 (65). The Roosters’ win kept their slim finals chances alive with 10 games left in the season. The Vikings led at every change to triumph 14.11 (95) to 10.6 (66). Harry Davenport kicked three goals for Happy Valley in a best-on-ground display, while Jett Carlier and Shane Stagg kicked two goals each. Other good players for Happy Valley included Sam Flett, Jayden Little, Liam O’Connor, Stagg and Tain Smelt. The reigning premier put their foot down in the final quarter, kicking four goals to zero, to win 7.8 (50) to 3.5 (23). Chloe Lea and Ashlee Wright kicked two goals each for Reynella, while their best players were Zannah Loxton, Ashlee Wright, Charlotte Watson, Mia Brennan, Scarlett Bradford and Sarah Bourn. Karison Kantilla kicked four goals for ‘Yank’, while Ryan Sherry and Daniel Bass kicked three goals each for the Demons. Langhorne Creek won their fifth game of the season, after handing Myponga-Sellicks their first loss of 2024, during round six action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) at Langhorne Creek yesterday. The Hawks trailed by 21 points at quarter time, but fought their way back into the contest to see scores level at halftime. The third term was tight with the Mudlarks taking a slender four-point lead into the last quarter. Urged on by their home crowd, Langhorne Creek kicked four goals to three in the final quarter to win 15.16 (106) to 15.9 (109). Caleb Howell kicked five goals for the Hawks, while Jarrod Kellock kicked three. Barossa Districts recruit Darren Shillabeer was a standout for the Mudlarks with 10 goals. Shillabeer has now kicked 37 goals for the season. Kellock, Howell, Matt Dominish, Henry Bruce, Darcy Paech and Adam Towk were named in the best players for Langhorne Creek. Tyler Baldock was best-on-ground for the Bays and he was well supported by Ryan Pearsons, Callum Tonkin, Jack Crispin, Marcus Lippett and Jarran Crabb.
