Parndana handed Dudley United their first loss of the Kangaroo Island Football League (KIFL) season yesterday with an upset 87-point demolition at Penneshaw during round seven action. The 19.14 (128) to 6.5 (41) victory was the Roosters’ third win of 2021 and consolidated their spot in the top four. Reece Johnston kicked nine goals in a best on ground display for Parndana while James Davis kicked three. Kyron Pepper was the only multiple goalkicker for the Eagles with two majors. Other good players for the Roosters were Ben Larsson, Nathan Trethewey, Ben Gaskin and Zac Trethewey. Best players for Dudley United were Ed Colley, Sam Winterhalder, Ryan Boers, Callum Willson and Stephen Clark.Wisanger went to the top of the KIFL ladder following their 69-point win at home against Kingscote. Wisanger got off to a good start to lead by 20 points at quarter time and extended the margin to a handy 26 points at halftime. Kingscote were battling hard and after kicking five goals to four in the third term, the margin was reduced to 22 points at the final change. Wisanger then put their foot down and finished strongly as they kicked 8.8 to 1.3 in the last quarter to win 22.16 (148) to 11.13 (79). Wisanger had nine different goalkickers with Jackson Lockett kicking seven majors, while Luke Stewart and Dustin Cross kicked three goals each. Jake Austin and Paul Green kicked three goals each for Kingscote. Liam Sampson, Sam Snowball, Lockett, Brok Viney-Obst and Stewart were best for the Panthers. Morphett Vale consolidated their spot in the top five with a strong 40-point win at home over fellow finals aspirant Happy Valley during round nine action in the Southern Football League (SFL) on Saturday. Happy Valley got off to a fast start to take a handy 25-point lead at the first break. Morphett Vale needed to lift after a slow first quarter and that's what they did as they slammed on eight goals to two in the second term to lead by 13 points at halftime. A further 11 goals to six in the second half saw the Emus win 20.10 (130) to 13.12 (90). Morphett Vale had 10 different goalkickers with Denis Iljcesen leading the way with eight majors. Ben Geytenbeek and Josh Dwyer Sterzl each kicked three goals for the Vikings. Bodie Sowter, Daniel Bode, Julian Mardigan, Jake Dorshorst and Iljcesen were named in the best for Morphett Vale. Best for Happy Valley were Ross Mullins, Caleb Dolman, Jayden Little, Dwayne Ruddock and Tyson Stewart.Noarlunga moved up to third spot on the ladder following their convincing 79-point win against local rival Port Noarlunga. ‘Porties’ made the short trip up the Onkaparinga River and started well to lead by a handy 19 points at quarter time. Noarlunga were spurred into action in the second stanza as they kicked four goals to none to lead by nine points at halftime. The second half was all the Shoes as they kicked 13 goals to three to win 18.17 (125) to 7.4 (46). Reece Martell continued his good recent goal kicking form as he slotted five majors while Vic Robertson kicked four goals to give him 29 for the season so far. Dylan Williams was the only multiple goalkicker for the Cockle Divers with three. Thomas Mott, Martell, Jarrad Liebelt, Shane Stagg and Hayden Case-Peach were named in the best players for the Shoes. For Port Noarlunga, Charlie Lawson, Jayden Close, Paul Randall, Sam Zeitz and Leigh Smith performed well. The ‘Falcons Machine’ rolled on to a 21st consecutive victory after demolishing Aldinga by 164 points at ‘Flaggies’ on Saturday. Flagstaff Hill led by 23 points at quarter time, 76 points at halftime and 94 points at the last change before an 11.4 to 0.0 final term saw the Falcons win 27.18 (180) to 2.4 (16). As always, the five-time reigning premier shared the goals around with 12 different goalkickers including Ryan Mountford (6), Daniel Webb (4), Samuel Smith (3) and Daniel Butcher (3). Zach Young and Timmy Sumner kicked the Sharks’ only two goals. Best for a rampant Falcons outfit were Mountford, Michael Shearer, Smith, Chris Puiatti and Sam Tharaldsen. Jack O’Hanlon, Brady O’Hanlon, Mitchell Jarrett, Timmy Sumner and Angus Stangewitz battled hard for Aldinga.Reynella consolidated second spot on the ladder with their seventh win of 2021, this time by 54 points over Christies Beach at Reynella. It was an entertaining first quarter with scores locked at 4.1 (25) apiece at the quarter time break. From that moment on, the Wine Flies showed their class as they kicked 13 goals to five in the last three quarters to win 17.11 (113) to 9.5 (59). Callan Semple kicked five goals for Reynella to give him 22 for the season while Bailey Marshman slotted four majors. Blake Carter played a lone hand up forward for the Saints with four goals. Nick Dixon, Kaleb Wilden, Kieran Powell, Marshman and Sam Whitbread were best for Reynella. Port Noarlunga won their first game in the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) competition after defeating Hackham by 47 points at Hackham on Saturday. The Cockle Divers dominated the opening term with 11 scoring shots to zero but were inaccurate as they kicked 3.8 to lead by 26 points at quarter time. ‘Porties’ extended their lead out to 41 points at halftime and a huge win looked on the cards. To the Hawks’ credit, they fought out the second half, allowing just one more goal for Port Noarlunga, but in the end the girls in Blue & White were too strong as they won 6.14 (50) to 0.3 (3). Bridie Nye kicked two goals in a best on ground performance for the Cockle Divers. Other good players for the winners included Madison Harris, Sheridan Poland, Sam Lynch and Kaiya Ivett. Best for Hackham was Chrysti Flevill, Alana Browne, Hannah Crump, Emily Hateley-Watson and Atalia Stalman. Reynella continued their unbeaten start to the 2021 season with a comfortable 45-point win at home against Cove. The Wine Flies got off to a fast start as they kicked 4.2 to 0.0 in the first term to lead by 26 points at quarter time. They extended their lead out to 44 points at halftime and to 63 points with a quarter to go. To the Cobras credit they fought the game out to the end, kicking two goals to none in the last term but ultimately Reynella were too strong as they won 11.5 (71) to 3.8 (26). Caitlin Williams kicked three goals for Reynella and she was ably supported by Allana Nimmo-Lyne and Emily Franklin who each slotted two majors. Alesia Leduff, Jaime Norup and Felicity Oliver were the goalkickers for the Cobras. Grace Doran was named best for Reynella and she was joined on the best player list by Ella Besley, Williams, Franklin and Madison Bennett. Cove were well served by Dana O’Brien, Emma Fitzpatrick, Oliver, Rebecca O’Shaughnessy and Lauren Pattimore. Christies Beach kept the heat on the top two with a comfortable 54-point win at Aldinga on Sunday. The Saints started strongly as they led by 35 points at halftime before Aldinga fought back in the third term to reduce the margin to 29 points at the last change. Christies steadied in the final term as they banged on four goals to zero to win 9.7 (61) to 1.1 (7). Brooke O’Brien kicked three goals for the Saints while Emily Risitano kicked two majors. Amber O’Hanlon kicked the only goal for the Sharks. Strathalbyn are back in the finals race in the Great Southern Football League Women’s (GSFLW) competition following their exciting two-point victory over Willunga at Strathalbyn yesterday. Willunga started well as they kicked the only two goals of the first term to lead by 13 points at quarter time. Strathalbyn hit back in the second quarter, keeping Willunga scoreless while kicking two majors of their own to lead by two points at halftime. The Demons themselves hit back in the ‘premiership quarter’ as they kicked two goals to none and at three quarter time they led by 10 points. As had been the pattern all day, the Roosters kicked two goals to none in the last quarter to take an exciting victory 4.4 (28) to Willunga 4.2 (26). Megan Rich kicked two goals for Strathalbyn while Aleesha Smith and Lauren Clifton each kicked two goals for Willunga. Elyse Haylock, Courtney Mesecke, Emma Chapman, Matilda King and Emogen Johnson were named as best players for the jubilant Roosters. For Willunga, Ella Radbone, Katrice Turner, Holly Ifould, Clifton and Jodie Hunt were their best.Goolwa/Port Elliot kept pace with the top four following their 12-point win over Yankalilla at Encounter Bay. It was a low scoring first half with both sides only kicking one goal as Yankalilla led by a point at the long break. The Magpies kicked two goals to one in the third term to go into the last quarter with a slender six-point lead. A further two goals to one from Goolwa/Port Elliot in the last quarter saw them win 5.3 (33) to 3.3 (21). Jaimi Griffen kicked two goals for Goolwa/Port Elliot while Yankalilla’s goals came from Jasmine Smith, Amelia Bilney and Dakota Oniszk. Best players for Goolwa/Port Elliot were Renee Moon, Asha Bell, Carly Roberts, Kate Whiting and Jaimi Griffen. Charlotte Dolan, Helen Maidment, Nari Wright, Tegan Cross and Georgia Weatherspoon were best for the Tigers.Mount Compass are top of the GSFLW ladder after a comprehensive 134-point win against Victor Harbor at Strathalbyn. The Bulldogs led by 33 points at quarter time, 70 points at halftime and 110 points at the last change before winning 20.15 (135) to 0.1 (1). ‘Compass’ had nine different goalkickers including Elke Jarvis (5) and Demi Sharp (4). For the fourth time this season, Demi Sharp was named best for Mount Compass. Joining Sharp in the best players for the Bulldogs were Jarvis, Brooke Boileau, Stacey Dale and Megan Tilby. Meanwhile for the Kangaroos, their best players were the ever-consistent Skye Kartinyeri-Sumner, Chloe Colman, Jaimee Millard, Stacie Findlow and Tegan Yeomans.McLaren won their ninth game of 2021 with a 98-point win over Encounter Bay. The Eagles led by 18 points at quarter time, 43 points at halftime and 71 points at the last change before winning 15.8 (98) to 0.0 (0). Sheena Peters continued her good season as she kicked six goals to give her 24 for the season so far. Sophia Flanagan-Sjoberg kicked four goals and was named best player for McLaren. Gwen Humphreys, Jessica Veasey and Ally Bailey were other good players for the reigning premier. Reigning premier Langhorne Creek and 2019 runner-up Willunga played out the first draw of the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) season at Langhorne Creek on Saturday. When the final siren rang, the sides were locked on 12.12 (84) each. Willunga got off to a good start to lead by 12 points at quarter time before Langhorne Creek bounced back in the second term to trail by just one point at the long break. The Demons took over in the third quarter as they kicked five goals to two to take a handy 23-point lead at the last change. Buoyed on by their home crowd, Langhorne Creek roared back into the contest as they kicked 6.2 to 2.3 in the final quarter to force the points to be shared. Caleb Howell kicked four goals and was named best player for the Hawks. Brett Miegel led the way for the Demons with three majors. Joining Howell in the best players for Langhorne Creek was Coby Helyar, Curtis Perrey, Troy Blackwell and Damien James. Best for Willunga was Brian Fenton, James Collier, Cam Hutchens, Miegel and Job Colwell.Mount Compass returned to the top of the GSFL ladder following their comfortable 63-point home win against Yankalilla. ‘Compass’ welcomed back gun forward Tom Pinyon and also added a handy inclusion in former 130-game Crows player, Jason Porplyzia. After a low scoring first quarter saw Mount Compass lead by eight points at quarter time, the home side completely dominated the last three quarters as they added 10 goals to two to win 12.13 (85) to 3.4 (22). The returning Pinyon kicked five goals while Lewis Johnston kicked three. Best for the Bulldogs was Nick Mott, Peter Hoban, Nathan Hicks, Johnston and Sam Haniford. Yankalilla, under new coach ‘Micka’ James, were best served by Finn Betterman, Chris Clark, Mackenzie Ryan, Joel Kay and Kaleigh Fitzgerald.Encounter Bay moved back inside the top five at the midway point of the season following their 55-point win at Myponga against the Mudlarks. The first three quarters were nip and tuck with the Bays leading by nine points at quarter time, five points at halftime and by six points at the final change. The Mudlarks were right in the hunt for their first win of the season with just 30 minutes left in the game but sadly, for them, it was all Encounter Bay in the final term. The Bays slammed on 8.2 to 0.1 in the last quarter to win 14.8 (92) to 5.7 (37). Gary Karpany kicked five goals in a best-on-ground performance for Encounter Bay while Ben Davis chimed in with three majors. Joining Karpany in the best players for the Bays was Fraser Tonkin, Ben Davis, Cohen Pettitt and Mitch Davis. Best for the Mudlarks was Harrison Cock, Sam Kennedy, Cambell Dahlitz, Ben Hamilton and Daniel Trevena.McLaren consolidated their spot in the top five with a grinding nine-point win at Strathalbyn. The first quarter was a tight one with scores locked away at 4.1 (25) apiece at the first change. The Eagles kicked four goals to two in the second term to lead by 12 points at halftime. Each team picked five goals apiece in the second half as McLaren banked a very important two points as they won 13.8 (86) to 11.11 (77). Joel Chahla continued his good recent form as he jagged five majors for McLaren and he was well supported by Jordon Mutton who kicked three. Marc Elliott led the Roosters with three goals of his own. For the third game in a row, Todd McKay was named best for McLaren. Other good players for the Eagles were Kiefver Zohar, Chahla, Matthew Merrett and Joel Vandeleur. Brodie Martin, Lachlan Butler, Richard O’Grady, Marc Elliott and Mark Tucker were best for Strathalbyn. Goolwa/Port Elliot won their second game for 2021 with a 28-point win at Victor Harbor. The Magpies started well as they kicked 5.5 to 3.0 and led by 17 points at quarter time. They extended their lead out to 18 points at halftime and after kicking three goals to none in the third quarter, they turned for home with a handy 37-point margin. Victor battled hard to win the last term but the Magpies prevailed 12.9 (81) to 8.5 (53). Former Carlton and West Adelaide player, Adam Hartlett, kicked five goals on debut for Goolwa/Port Elliot while Fred Nissen kicked two. Billy Wade and Sam Basham each kicked two goals for the Kangaroos. Daniel Fry, Ben Cummings, Tyron Rigney, James Fry and Sam Priest were best for Goolwa/Port Elliot while best for Victor Harbor was Brok Schubert, Billy Wade, Seb Guilhaus, Dylan Kleinig and Zac Dowling.  The competition takes a break for the Queen’s Birthday long weekend next week with the GSFL set to host the Southern Football League at Strathalbyn Oval on Saturday (12 June). There will be five games played on the day with the gates opening at 7.30am. Noarlunga won their fourth game of the season and moved within percentage of third spot following their comprehensive 94-point victory against Cove during round eight action in the Southern Football League (SFL) on Saturday. The Shoes started well to lead by 22 points at quarter time and the game was as good as over at halftime as Noarlunga kicked eight goals to one in the second stanza to take a 66-point lead into the long break. A further nine goals to five in the second half saw Noarlunga win 22.14 (146) to Cove 8.4 (52). Vic Robertson was a star up forward for the Shoes as he kicked nine goals in a best on ground performance. Reece Martell (6), Callum Gaspari (3) and Josh Thewlis (3) were the other multiple goalkickers for Noarlunga. Jayden Morton kicked three goals for the Cobras while Blake Harding kicked two majors. Joining Vic Robertson in the best players for the Shoes was Sam Carlyle, Martell, Nick Robertson and Gaspari. Best for the Cobras was Hayden Kernahan, Morton, Ryan Need, Corey Jackson and Scott Abbott.Christies Beach had their second win of the season with a 37-point win over local rival Port Noarlunga at Bice Oval. Christies got off to a good start to lead by 25 points at quarter time and they extended their lead out to 47 points by halftime as they took control of the game. ‘Porties’ battled hard to win the second half but the damage had been done as the Saints won 16.11 (107) to 11.4 (70). Blake Carter kicked five goals for Christies while Matthew Coulthard led the way for the Cockle Divers with three majors. Aidan Coakley continued his good season to be named best for Christies Beach and he was well supported by Lee Hoey, Rhys Mundy, Jacob Crate and Josh Semmens. Port Noarlunga’s best were Alex McKay, Coulthard, Sam Zeitz, Connor Sampson and Will Hyndman. Morphett Vale kept their spot in the top five with a come-from-behind victory at Aldinga on Saturday. Morphett Vale led by six points at quarter time before Aldinga took over as a powerful second term saw them kick six goals to three to take a handy 14-point lead to the main break. The game tightened up again in the third quarter as scores were level at 9.8 (62) apiece at the last change. Morphett Vale produced a powerful last quarter burst of six goals to one to win by 27 points, 15.9 (99) to 10.12 (72). Denis Iljcesen (4) and Joel Handreck (3) led the goal kickers for the Emus while the Sharks’ Timmy Sumner dobbed four majors. Jared Greenbank was best for the fast finishing Emus and he was ably supported by Braydan Hartwig, Handreck, Jack Barter and Connor Lock. Best players for Aldinga included Michael Balas, Sam Noble, Byron Sumner, Angus Stangewitz and Timmy Sumner.The Flagstaff Hill machine rolled on to a 20th consecutive victory on Saturday, this time by 93 points at Happy Valley. The opening term was tight with 2021’s big improvers in Happy Valley only trailing by six points at the first break. However, from then on it was all the Falcons as they kicked 16 goals to two to win 19.9 (123) to 4.6 (30). As usual ‘Flaggies’ had plenty of avenues to goal with nine different goalkickers led by Daniel Butcher with five while Ryan Mountford kicked four. Sam Tharaldsen continued his excellent season for the reigning premier to be named best on ground. He was well supported by Brayden Heyward-Ferors, Tynan Carney, Mountford and Michael Shearer.
