Reynella maintained top spot on the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) ladder after defeating Christies Beach by 80 points during round six action at Bice Oval yesterday. The Wine Flies led by eight points at quarter time, 39 points at halftime and 60 points at the last break before winning 12.8 (80) to 0.0 (0). Emily Woods kicked four goals for Reynella with Georgia Pennifold and Rebecca Denyer chiming in with two goals each. Madi Thwaites, Morgan Blackwell, Ella Besley, Pennifold and Renee Wurfel were best for Reynella while for Christies Beach, Angeligue Dean, Mia Dunn, Neriah Mills, Brooke O’Brien and Monique Hepden were named as their sides best.Reigning premier Flagstaff Hill consolidated second spot on the ladder following their convincing 83-point win at Hackham yesterday. ‘Flaggies’ were inaccurate in the first term as they kicked 1.6 to lead by 12 points at quarter time. Five goals to none in the second quarter saw the Falcons out to a commanding 46-point lead by halftime. A further five goals to none in the second half saw Flagstaff Hill win 11.18 (84) to 0.1 (1). Chloe Meyers, Emma Sjoberg, Emily Erickson and Emily Brockhurst all kicked two goals for the Falcons. Sjoberg, Erickson, Isobel Dyson, Hannah Griffin and Alana Baker were the leading players for the winners while Hannah Crump, Emily Hateley-Watson, Alana Browne, Chrysti Flevill and Courtnie Noble battled hard for Hackham.Cove kept their spot in the top four with a 29-point win over Port Noarlunga at Hallett Cove. The Cobras started well to lead by 21 points at quarter time and they extended their lead out to 27 points at the long break. Port Noarlunga battled hard in the second half as both sides added two goals with Cove winning 6.7 (43) to 2.2 (14). Felicity Oliver kicked two goals for Cove while Stephanie Raliis and Kaiya Ivett were the goal kickers for ‘Porties’. Emma Fitzpatrick, Edith Kosztovits, Oliver, Rebecca O’Shaughnessy and Lara Ward were best for the Cobras. McLaren took a big scalp yesterday in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) as they knocked off the previously undefeated Mount Compass by 33 points at McLaren Vale. The home side started well as they kicked the first two goals of the game before Mount Compass hit back in a tight opening term, as the Eagles led by four points at quarter time. After kicking 3.7 in the opening term, McLaren again had plenty of shots at goal in the second term as they kicked an inaccurate 4.8 to lead 7.15 (57) to 6.6 (42) at halftime. Mount Compass were missing prolific full-forward Tom Pinyon but elusive half-forward Ziggy Vitkunas was keeping his side in the game with four goals in the first half. Thomas Harms was on fire up forward for McLaren with five goals of his own. The Eagles kept their foot on the Bulldogs throat as they kicked a further six goals to two in the second half to win 13.16 (94) to 8.13 (61). Harms finished with five goals while Joel Chahla kicked three majors for McLaren. Vitkunas played a lone hand up forward for Mount Compass with five goals. Todd McKay, Chahla, Alex Moyle, Sam Bentley and Daniel Marr were best for McLaren. For Mount Compass, Vitkunas, Peter Hoban, Nick Mott, Nick Brokenshire and Michael Corbett were named as their best players.Willunga moved back to the top of the ladder, but it wasn’t easy, as they hosted bottom side Myponga/Sellicks at Willunga. The Demons won a tight and scrappy affair 8.10 (58) to 7.6 (48). Willunga led by 15 points at halftime but its lead could’ve been far greater as they kicked 3.9 (27) to Myponga/Sellicks 2.0 (12). The Mudlarks played some of their best footy for 2021 as they kicked four goals to three in the third term and turned for home just nine points in arrears. The visitors had plenty of chances in the final term but it was their turn to be inaccurate as they kicked 1.5 while the Demons added 2.0 to win by 10 points. Cam Hutchens kicked two goals for Willunga while Jayden Scott led the way for Myponga/Sellicks with three majors. Brian Fenton, Myles Warmington, Job Colwell, Billy Cook and Jake Standfield were best for Willunga while Daniel Trevena, Jack Sires, Scott Ogilvie, Sam Kennedy and Jake Spinks were best for a brave Mudlarks outfit.Strathalbyn had a very important come-from-behind win over Goolwa/Port Elliot to keep their spot in the top five after eight rounds. It was a low scoring first half with Goolwa/Port Elliot holding a slender six-point lead at halftime. Three goals apiece in the third term saw the Magpies turn for home with a seven-point lead and the home crowd dared to dream of an upset over the more fancied Roosters. The dream turned into a nightmare in the final term as the Roosters roared home with five goals to one to win 11.11 (77) to 8.11 (59). Riley Clamp was the hero again for Strathalbyn with four last-quarter goals in a best on ground performance while Brad Prior kicked three for the Magpies. Joining Clamp in the best players for Strathalbyn were Richard O’Grady, Jacob Wright, Xavier Redden and Lachlan Butler. Best for the Magpies were Daniel Fry, Dale Cuthbert, James Fry, Mckale O’Flaherty and Jesse Bates.Langhorne Creek moved to second spot on the GSFL ladder with a convincing 67-point in the grand final rematch at Encounter Bay. The reigning premier Hawks kept the Bays goalless in the first half as they took a handy 38-point lead to halftime. The Bays made some inroads into the lead in the third quarter as they outscored the Hawks to trail by 30 points at the last change. The ‘Creeks’ put the foot down in the last quarter as they kicked seven goals to one to win 15.9 (99) to 4.8 (32). Caleb Howell kicked five goals for Langhorne Creek and he was ably assisted by Lachlan McGregor, Mitchell Cleggett and Coby Helyar who all kicked three goals. Tyson Neale was the only multiple goal kicker for the Bays with two. Ben Arbon, Jarrad Kellock, Howell, Tom Derham and Curtis Perrey were best for Langhorne Creek. Lachlan Williams, Cohen Pettitt and Callum Tonkin were among the best players for Encounter Bay.Yankalilla won their fourth game of the season following a grinding nine-point win against Victor Harbor at Yankalilla yesterday. Victor Harbor made a fast start and held a handy 23-point lead at quarter time. The hosts woke up in the second term, kicking five goals to two, and reducing the margin to just four points at the long break. The Tigers hit the front in the third term to lead by nine points at three quarter time. Yankalilla dominated the last term but could only manage a wasteful 1.9 to Victor’s 2.3 but it was enough for Yankalilla to win 11.18 (84) to 11.9 (75). Harry Morgan was a star for ‘Yank’ with five goals in a best on ground display. Brok Schubert matched Morgan’s output with five goals of his own for the Kangaroos. Joining Morgan in the best players for the winners was Joel Kay, Lachlan Whittlesea, Finn Betterman and Matthew Wilson. McLaren sent a warning to the Great Southern Football League Women’s (GSFLW) competition as they ended Mount Compass’ undefeated run with a gritty nine-point win at Encounter Bay on Sunday. The game was tight all day with McLaren leading by five points at quarter time before Mount Compass hit the front by four points at halftime. McLaren steadied to kick the only two goals of the second half to win 4.3 (27) to 2.6 (18). Sally Fuller kicked two goals for the Eagles while Linda Shute and Heidi Smith each kicked a goal for the Bulldogs. Caitlin Ross continued her excellent season to be named best for McLaren and she was ably supported by the consistent Layla Rogers, Katie Whish, Emily Rowe and Katrina Munzberg. Mount Compass was best served by Tyler Garrett, Kiara Upitis, Georgina Thomas, Emily Smith and Brooke Boileau. Yankalilla moved up to fourth spot on the GSFLW ladder following a convincing 109-point win against Encounter Bay. The Tigers led by 27 points at quarter time, 51 points at halftime and 81 points at the last change before they won 15.19 (109) to 0.0 (0). Colbie Frankland and Dana Oniszk each kicked four goals for the Tigers. Best players for Yankalilla were Charlotte Dolan, Frankland, Nari Wright, Emily Sowter and Tegan Cross. Chelsea Walker, Kayla Lang and Michelle Lang were best for the Bays.Willunga went top of the ladder with a percentage-boosting 110-point win over Victor Harbor at Goolwa. Mount Compass defeated Willunga by 18 points at Mount Compass on Saturday during round seven action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) to move top of the ladder and in the process, ended the unbeaten run of the Demons. It was a much anticipated clash between the two undefeated sides in the GSFL and it didn’t disappoint. Both sides were inaccurate in the first term with Willunga leading by 13 points at the first break. ‘Compass’ hit back in the second quarter to go to the halftime break with a slender two-point lead, before Willunga again took the lead at the last change by five points. Willunga’s lead could easily have been greater but for an inaccurate 3.8 for the quarter. Mount Compass showed their class in the final term as they kicked five goals to one to win 15.10 (100) to 10.22 (82). Tom Pinyon was best on ground for the Bulldogs with seven goals, giving him 39 for the season so far. Ziggy Vitkunas also chimed in with four goals for Mount Compass. Cam Hutchens kicked three goals for the Demons. Other good players for Mount Compass included Matthew Skrypek, Peter Hoban, Nick Mott and Shane Heatley. Best for Willunga were Braden Altus, James Collier, Hutchens, Lachlan Scott and Cameron McDonald. An after-the-siren goal to Riley Clamp saw Strathalbyn win a thriller against Victor Harbor by five points. ‘Strath’ were in control at the three quarter time break as they held a 21-point lead with a quarter left. The Kangaroos came home hard, kicking four of the first five goals of the last term, until Clamp stepped in to seal the win for the Roosters, 11.12 (78) to 10.13 (73). Clamp and Ryan Clarke each kicked three goals for Strathalbyn while Billy Wade and Sam Basham kicked two goals each for Victor. Richard O’Grady, Clamp, Xavier Redden, Mark Tucker and Lachlan Butler were best for the Roosters. For Victor Harbor, Rhys Bartram, Heath Treloar and Billy Wade were among their best players.Langhorne Creek consolidated third spot on the GSFL ladder with a comfortable 83-point win against Myponga-Sellicks at Myponga. Sam Kennedy, Jake Spinks and Jordan Kennedy were among the Mudlarks’ best players.McLaren travelled down to Goolwa on Saturday and came away with an impressive 62-point win. The first quarter was tight with the highly fancied McLaren outfit leading by just four points at the first break. The game was completely opened up in the second term as the visiting Eagles slammed on seven goals to zero to lead by a handy 48 points at halftime. A further seven goals to four in the second half saw McLaren win 17.6 (108) to 6.10 (46). Jordon Mutton kicked eight goals for the Eagles, giving him 20 from his past three games. Brett Ellis kicked four goals for McLaren in a best on ground performance. Sam Priest kicked two majors for the Magpies. The Cobras led by 29 points at quarter time, 45 points at halftime and 81 points at the last change before winning 15.18 (108) to 0.1 (1). Edith Kosztovits kicked five goals for the Cobras and she was well supported by Felicity Oliver (4) and Alesia Leduff (3). Best players for Cove were Oliver, Kosztovits, Mikala Graham, Renee Ullrich and Dana O’Brien. Dudley United have skipped a game clear on top of the Kangaroo Island Football League (KIFL) ladder following their 37-point win over previously undefeated Wisanger at Penneshaw on Saturday. The clash between the two top sides in the competition lived up to expectations for the first three quarters with Dudley United hanging on to a six-point lead at the last change. Dudley United really turned it on for their home fans in the last quarter as they kicked 8.3 to 3.2 to win a high-scoring affair, 20.12 (132) to 15.5 (95). Kyron Pepper kicked five goals for the Eagles with support from Brodie Howard and Clayton Willson who each kicked four goals. Luke Shurven was a star up forward for Wisanger as he kicked eight goals to take his season tally to 14 from three games. Sam McLeay, Nathan Dickson, Edward Colley, Matthew Houchin and Brent Kirby were named best players for the undefeated Eagles. Reigning premier Flagstaff Hill went top of the ladder following a comprehensive 62-point victory against the previously undefeated Reynella Wine Flies during round seven action in the Southern Football League (SFL) on Saturday. It was a tight first half with Flagstaff Hill holding sway to lead by 10 points at halftime. It was all the reigning premier after halftime as they booted 13 goals to five to win 18.10 (118) to 8.8 (56). The Falcons had plenty of avenues to goal with 11 different goalkickers, led by Bradley Patterson who slotted three majors. Callan Semple also kicked three goals for Reynella. Mitchell Johnson, Patterson, Sam Tharaldsen, David Kearsley and Brayden Heyward-Ferors were best for the rampant Falcons while for Reynella, Bailey England, Steven Farrelly and Robert Irra were among their best.Noarlunga won their third game of the season and moved to fourth spot on the ladder following their 45-point victory at Old Noarlunga against Morphett Vale. The game never reached any great heights with both defences on top. It took until the third quarter for Morphett Vale to register their first major, but amazingly they only trailed by 12 points at the last change. The game really opened up in the last term with the Shoes kicking seven goals to two to win 11.8 (74) to 3.11 (29). Vic Roberston kicked four goals for Noarlunga and Reece Martell slotted three. Steven Byrne kicked two of the Emus’ three goals. Jake Anderson, Callum Gaspari, Zac Williams, Matthew Fry and Jarrad Liebelt were named best for the Shoes while Daniel Bode, Scott Carpenter and Ryan Fitzpatrick were among the best players for Morphett Vale. Happy Valley consolidated third spot on the ladder with a thumping 165-point victory against Aldinga. The Vikings led by 30 points at quarter time, 79 points at halftime and 129 points at the last change before winning 31.7 (193) to 4.4 (28). ‘The Valleys’ had 12 different goalkickers including Ben Geytenbeek, Dwayne Ruddock and Liam Hamilton, who all kicked six majors. Zach Young kicked two goals for the Sharks. Joel Beeche was named best on ground for Happy Valley and he was well supported by Hamilton, Jaxon McGregor-Dey, Ben Ryan and Tyson Stewart. The win was set up by a seven-goal second term from the Cockle Divers which saw them take a 49-point lead into halftime. Clinton Calyun (4), Daniel Loveridge (3), Ben Stokes (3) and Dylan Williams (2) were the multiple goalkickers for Port Noarlunga while David Kinnear slotted three for the Cobras. Victor Harbor won their second game of the Great Southern Football League Women’s (GSFLW) season with a comfortable 49-point win against Encounter Bay at Willunga on Sunday. After a scoreless opening term, Victor kicked three goals in the second quarter to lead by 21 points at halftime. The Bays kicked their first goal of the game in the third term through Keeley Round but Victor increased their lead to 30 points at the last change before winning 8.7 (55) to 1.0 (6). Tyla Millard starred with four goals for the Kangaroos and was named in the best players along with Skye Kartinyeri-Sumner, Chloe Colman, Deb Beaton and best on ground, Jaimee Millard. Best for Encounter Bay was Amber Grahame, Chelsea Walker, Teagan Stewart, Zoe Lush and Kayla Jade Lang. Mount Compass continued their undefeated start to the season with a tough 15-point win over a gallant Strathalbyn outfit at Mount Compass. It was a low scoring contest with ‘Compass’ winning 3.2 (20) to Strathalbyn 0.5 (5). Taylar McGrath, Kelly Haverty and Kiahni Russell were the goalkickers for the Bulldogs. The consistent Demi Sharp was best for Mount Compass. Sharp has been named in the best players in seven of the eight games so far this season. Reigning premier Flagstaff Hill moved to third spot on the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) ladder after defeating Cove by 32 points at Flagstaff Hill on Sunday. It was a tight first half with ‘Flaggies’ leading by just seven points at halftime. The Falcons took over after the long break as they kicked 4.2 to 0.1 to win 7.5 (47) to 2.3 (15). For the second game in a row Emily Brockhurst was the star up forward for Flagstaff Hill with five goals. Vanetta Renfrey and Kelsey Rodman were the other goal kickers for the winners. Felicity Oliver and Alesia Leduff kicked the Cobras two goals. Zoe Walker-Roberts, Chloe Meyers, Taylah Revink, Brockhurst and Alana Baker were best for Flagstaff Hill. Cove were best served by Mikala Graham, Seraphina Moon and Emma Fitzpatrick.Aldinga won their first game of 2021 with a tight four-point win against a gallant Port Noarlunga in a low-scoring affair at ‘Porties’. Port Noarlunga led by seven points at the first change before Aldinga led by four points at halftime. And that’s how it ended with Aldinga hanging on to win 1.6 (12) to 1.2 (8). India Hamdorf kicked the only goal for Aldinga and she was also named in the best players along with Amber O’Hanlon, Ayla Regione, Jessika O’Hanlon and Eilish O’Hanlon. It was the second week in a row that Eilish O’Hanlon had been named best player for the Sharks. For the second time this season Bridie Nye was named best for the Cockle Divers and she was well supported by Stephanie Rallis, Emma Matonia, Genevieve Lawless and Madison Harris. Nye also kicked the only goal for Port Noarlunga.Christies Beach sit just percentage behind top side Reynella, who had the bye in round four, following their comprehensive 70-point win at Hackham. Christies Beach were inaccurate in the first half as they kicked 5.8 but still led by 38 points at halftime. A further six goals to one in the second half saw the Saints take out the win 11.11 (77) to 1.1 (7). Brooke O’Brien kicked four goals for Christies Beach with Casie Coombe and Indiana Flynn also hitting the scoreboard as they kicked three goals apiece. Emily Hateley-Watson was the only goal kicker for the Hawks. Coombe was named best on ground for Christies Beach with Neriah Milis, Rachael Farlam, Flynn and Emma Dumbill in support. McLaren moved back inside the top five following their tight 12-point win against Yankalilla during round six action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) on Saturday. Yankalilla has suffered some big losses recently while McLaren had lost their past three games by a combined total of only 28 points. It was a much-improved performance from Yankalilla but ultimately McLaren won their third match of the season 13.11 (89) to 11.11 (77). Jordan Mutton kicked six goals for the Eagles and James Grimley chipped in with three majors. Jack Fitzgerald, Lindsay Thomas and Patrick Fittock all kicked two goals for Yankalilla. Brett Ellis continued his excellent season to be named best for McLaren. He was ably supported by Mutton, Tom Fenoughty, Tom Harms and Joel Vandeleur. Joel Kay, Chris Clark, Joseph Tyllis, Thomas and Jack Fitzgerald were named in the best players for the Tigers.Willunga continued on their merry way as they won their sixth game in a row with a comfortable 92-point win at Encounter Bay. The final scores were Willunga 20.11 (131) to Encounter Bay 6.3 (39). The Demons sit atop the GSFL ladder with a whopping percentage of 398.20! On Saturday, the Demons had 12 different goalkickers including Tyson Hoffmann (3), Jake Standfield (3), Cam Hutchens (2), Myles Warmington (2), Sean Beath (2) and Daniel Bass (2). New recruit Brian Fenton was named best for the Demons and he was joined in the best players by Warmington, Hutchens, Billy Cook and Harrison Mills. Hamish Tonkin, Cohen Pettitt and Ben Gibbs were best for the Bays.It was a high scoring affair at Langhorne Creek on Saturday as the Hawks defeated Victor Harbor by 71 points to consolidate third spot on the GSFL ladder. 44 goals were scored with Victor Harbor’s Sam Basham slotting eight majors and Mitch Cleggett from Langhorne Creek kicking seven goals. The final scores were Langhorne Creek 28.6 (174) to 16.7 (103). The reigning premier had many good players including Ben Arbon, Jake Dominish, Curtis Perrey, Matt Dominish and Troy Blackwell. Victor Harbor was best served by Billy Wade, Dylan Kleinig and Leslie Weetra. Goolwa/Port Elliot travelled to Myponga and had their first win of 2021 as they defeated the Mudlarks 14.11 (95) to 8.8 (56) by 39 points. Magpies playing-coach Todd Miles kicked four goals while Jesse Bates and Trent Griffen kicked two goals each. Jayden Scott, Sam Kennedy and James Hutchinson each kicked two goals for Myponga/Sellicks. Aisea Raikiwasa continued his excellent month of football to be named best for the Magpies. He was ably supported by James Fry, Dale Cuthbert, Brad Prior and Jesse Bates. Kane Andrewartha, Harrison Cock and Tyler Daniell were among the Mudlarks’ best.Mount Compass joined Willunga as the only undefeated sides after round six as they fought off a tenacious Strathalbyn outfit at Strath on Saturday. Mount Compass won 16.10 (106) to 11.15 (81) and now will turn their focus to a blockbuster contest against Willunga this Saturday. The Mount Compass forward line was once again a threat on Saturday with Tom Pinyon and Ziggy Vitkunas each kicking five goals for the Bulldogs, while Matt Skrypek chipped in with three majors. Austin McFarlane also kicked three goals for Strathalbyn. Vitkunas was best for Compass along with Michael Corbett, Lewis Johnston, Skrypek and Brandon McKenzie.
