Goolwa/Port Elliot consolidated second spot on the ladder with a comfortable 62-point win against Victor Harbor at Goolwa during round six action of the FPAG ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) on Friday night. The Magpies led by 25 points at quarter time, 39 points at halftime, and 52 points at the last change, before winning 10.4 (64) to 0.2 (2). Rosie Shaw kicked five goals in a best-on-ground performance for Goolwa/Port Elliot, while Indiana Quaremba kicked three majors. Joining Shaw in the best players for the Magpies were Amber McKinlay, Tamra Sanders, Bridget Lindsay, and Rachel Wood.McLaren Districts kept pace with the top-two with a 77-point win against Myponga-Sellicks at Strathalbyn on Friday night. The Eagles led by 25 points at quarter time, before both sides kicked two goals in the second term as the margin stayed at 25 points at the long break. McLaren Districts got their game going in the second half, kicking eight goals to none, to win 14.6 (90) to 2.1 (13). Reigning premier Willunga ended the unbeaten run of Goolwa/Port Elliot with a tough 12-point win at Willunga during round five action of the FPAG ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) yesterday. Goolwa/Port Elliot started well to lead by two points at quarter time, before Willunga hit back to take a handy 14-point lead at the long break. The Magpies reduced the margin to seven points at the last change, before Willunga settled to win 7.1 (43) to 4.7 (31). Jessica Harris kicked three goals for Willunga, while Rosie Shaw snagged two majors for the Magpies. Best players for Willunga included Cleo Guilfoyle, Jodie Hunt, Katrice Turner, Abby Woodward, and Kiara Upitis. Tamra Sanders, Kalani Bates, Kerrie-Ann Moon, Bridget Lindsay, and Indi Miller were named best for Goolwa/Port Elliot.Victor Harbor won their second game of the season with a comfortable 76-point win against Myponga-Sellicks. The Southern Football League (SFL) ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition got underway today with several big wins in round one. The closest match was between reigning premier Flagstaff Hill and Christies Beach, with ‘Christies’ winning by 23 points. The win was set up by an excellent first term where they kicked three goals to none. The rest of the game was tight with Christies Beach running out winners 4.5 (29) to 1.0 (6). Cadence Bryowsky kicked two goals for Christies Beach, while Emma Hoppo was the sole goalkicker for Flagstaff Hill. Port Noarlunga started their season with a bang, courtesy of a whopping 202-point victory against Hackham. The Cockle Divers led by 60 points at quarter time, 92 points at halftime, and 145 points at the last change, before winning 30.22 (202) to 0.0 (0). Port Noarlunga had 13 different goalkickers with Jolande Wilson (6), Jessika O’Hanlon (5), and Nikki Parker (5) leading the way. Cove Cobras defeated newcomers Noarlunga by 97 points to open their 2023 season at Old Noarlunga today. The win was set up by a six goal to zero first term which saw the Cobras lead by 40 points at the first change. A further eight goals in the last three quarters saw Cove win 14.13 (97) to 0.0 (0). Makayla Brown kicked four goals for the Cobras. It’s the second win in a row by more than 150 points for the Falcons. Flagstaff Hill led by 86 points at halftime, before kicking a further 16 goals in the second half to win 29.20 (194) to 2.5 (17). The Falcons had 13 different goalkickers including Sam Jacobs (6), Sam Smith (5), Aiden Grayson (3), Brad Patterson (3), and Josh Rosman (3). Best players for Flagstaff Hill included Reece Milsom, Patterson, Rosman, Cameron Blake, and Mackenzie Short. The game was close throughout with McLaren Districts holding a slender one-point lead at the final change. In a high-scoring last quarter, where 11 goals were kicked, the Eagles triumphed 14.14 (98) to 13.11 (89). McLaren Districts had 10 different goalkickers with Darcy Brown, Billy Chahla, Daniel Marr, and Codey Ellison all kicking two majors. Jarrod Kellock (4), Darcy Clifford (3), and Matt Tonkin (2) were the multiple goalkickers for the Hawks. The Eagles got off to a fast start as they kicked the first three goals of the match to lead by 16 points at quarter time. Willunga hit back with two goals in the second quarter to cut the margin to just three points at halftime. Neither side kicked a goal in the third term as McLaren Districts turned for home with a slender two-point lead. The Eagles steadied, kicking two goals in the last quarter, as they won 5.1 (31) to 2.8 (20). Kiahni Russell kicked three goals for McLaren Districts, while Jessica Harris and Ada Anninos were the goalkickers for Willunga. Reigning premier Reynella won their first game of the season following a 27-point win in the Grand Final rematch against Morphett Vale during round two action in the Southern Football League (SFL) yesterday. The Wine Flies started well, taking a handy 34-point lead to halftime. Morphett Vale battled hard in the second half, kicking five goals to four, but ultimately Reynella triumphed 10.11 (71) to 6.8 (44). Reigning premier McLaren Districts got their premiership defence off to the perfect start with a tough 19-point win at Mount Compass on Saturday, during round one action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL). The Eagles skipped out to a commanding 29-point lead at halftime, and it looked like a big win was on the cards. To Mount Compass’ credit, they outscored the reigning premiers in the second half, kicking five goals to three, but it wasn’t enough as the visitors triumphed 10.9 (69) to 7.8 (50). Lachlan Camm, Max Gill, and Kiefver Zohar all kicked two goals for McLaren Districts. Ziggy Vitkunas was the Bulldogs leading goal kicker with three goals.
