Aldinga won their second game of 2021 following their 11-point win at Port Noarlunga during round six action in the Southern Football League (SFL) on Saturday. Incredibly it was the first time in 71 years that the Sharks had tasted victory against the Cockle Divers. The game was tight all day with Aldinga leading by two points at quarter time and one point at halftime. Port Noarlunga hit the front at the last change by two points but the margin could have been greater as Port Noarlunga had 18 scoring shots to Aldinga’s 11 as the teams turned for home. Aldinga lifted in the last term to kick four goals to two and come away with a 10.8 (68) to 7.15 (57) victory. Timmy Sumner continued his good season as he kicked four majors for the Sharks. Bailey Pilmore also kicked four goals for Aldinga. Dylan Williams was the only multiple goalkicker for the Cockle Divers with three goals. Angus Stangewitz was named best for Aldinga and he was ably supported by Byron Sumner, Tyler Flintham, Jack O’Hanlon and Michael Balas. Russell Curyer, Paul Randall and Aaron Peterson were among ‘Porties’ best. Reynella remained undefeated and on top of the ladder following a hard fought 22-point win against Happy Valley at Reynella. The home side got off to a fast start to lead by 38 points at halftime but the Vikings came right back into the contest in the third term to see scores locked up at the last change. The undefeated Wine Flies, with support from their home crowd, steadied to kick 4.3 to 0.5 in the last quarter to win 11.9 (75) to 7.11 (53). Reynella’s win sets up a huge clash next Saturday against the other undefeated team in 2021, Flagstaff Hill. Bradley Potter and Callan Semple each kicked three goals for Reynella while Josh Dwyer Sterzl kicked four goals for Happy Valley. Bailey England, Nick McLean, Potter, Robert Irra and Jason Farrier were best for Reynella. For Happy Valley, James Hay, Caleb Dolman and Dwayne Ruddock were among their best players.Morphett Vale are back on the winning list with a convincing 58-point victory against Cove on Saturday at Hallett Cove. Morphett Vale started strongly as they kicked 11 goals in the first half to take a 45-point lead to the long break. A further five goals to two in the second half saw the Emus win 16.9 (105) to 6.11 (47). Aiden Baker and Joel Handreck each kicked four goals for the winners while Ryan Need kicked two goals for the Cobras. Best players for Morphett Vale were Steven Byrne, Jack Dal Santo, Handreck, Daniel Earl and Denis Iljcesen. Dean Hancock, Oliver Moore, Need, Ben Pittard and Hayden Kernahan were best for Cove.Flagstaff Hill notched their fifth victory of 2021 to consolidate second spot on the SFL ladder with a comfortable 85-point win at Christies Beach. The Falcons led by 20 points at quarter time, 38 points at halftime and 65 points at the last change before winning 17.13 (115) to 4.6 (30). Daniel Webb continued his good recent goalkicking form with five majors for the Falcons. Sam Smith, Dan Butcher and Mitchell Johnson all chimed in with three majors as well. Ryan Grimmond kicked two goals for the Saints. Goolwa/Port Elliot won their third game of the Great Southern Football League Women’s (GSFLW) season with a 69-point win against Victor Harbor to move up to fourth spot on the ladder. The Magpies started well to lead by 39 points at halftime before winning 10.10 (70) to 0.1 (1). Kate Whiting and Isabella Ramsey each kicked two goals for Goolwa/Port Elliot. Best players for the Magpies were Megan Hoad, Whiting, Rachel Searle, Kerrie-Ann Moon and Catherine Griffen. Victor was best served by Jaimee Millard, Tegan Yeomans, Courtney Marks, Skye Kartinyeri-Sumner and Lottie Pehi.Willunga consolidated second spot on the ladder following their comprehensive 146-point win over Encounter Bay at Victor Harbor. Willunga led by 42 points at quarter time, 80 points at halftime and 107 points at the last change before winning 23.8 (146) to 0.0 (0). Shae Archbold had a day out kicking eight goals while Jessica Harris chimed in with six majors. Katrice Turner continued her consistent season to be named best player for the Demons. Layla Rogers and Sally Fuller each kicked two goals for McLaren while Jessica Veasey, Caitlin Ross, Rogers, Tessa Cunningham and Ruby Flanagan-Sjoberg were named in the best players. For Strathalbyn, Morgan Tucker, Emily Eglitis, Emma Chapman, Indigo Miller and Melanie Cross were their best.Mount Compass maintained their undefeated status, but not before getting a big scare from their opponent Yankalilla. Mount Compass started well to take a handy 14-point lead at quarter time. Yankalilla kicked two goals to one in the second term to reduce the margin to 11 points at the long break. Yankalilla continued their good form into the ‘premiership quarter’ as they kicked a further two goals to one and turned for home just five points in arrears of the ladder leader. Mount Compass showed their class as they pulled away in the final stanza, kicking three goals to zero, to win 7.11 (53) to 4.3 (27). Heidi Smith kicked three very important goals for the winners while Kimberly Robinson and Dakota Oniszk each kicked two majors for the Tigers. Happy Valley won their third game on the trot with a convincing 99-point win against Christies Beach during round five action in the Southern Football League (SFL). Happy Valley got off to a fast start to lead by 30 points at quarter time and extended their lead out to 54 points by halftime. The Vikings continued on their merry way after halftime as they kicked a further 11 goals to three to win 21.7 (133) to 4.10 (34). New recruit Ben Geytenbeek continued his good start to the season as he kicked six goals, giving him 23 for the season. Josh Dwyer-Sterzl also kicked six goals for Happy Valley while Jack Flett kicked three . Bailey Short and Keelan Boehm each kicked two goals for Christies Beach. Jaxon McGregor-Dey, Scott Rademacher, Dwyer-Sterzl, Joel Beeche and James Hay were named in the best players for the Vikings. Jacob Crate, Aidan Coakley and Aiden Fitzgibbons were among the best for a disappointing Saints outfit.Flagstaff Hill had a huge percentage-boosting win against Cove to consolidate second spot on the ladder. The Falcons kicked a whopping 38.16 (244) to Cove’s 5.7 (37) to win by 207 points. It was an entertaining first quarter with 10 goals scored with Flagstaff Hill taking a 17-point lead to the first break. From that moment on it was all ‘Flaggies’ with the five-time reigning premier kicking an incredible 32 goals to one in the last three quarters. The Falcons had 11 different goal kickers with Daniel Webb (8), Daniel Butcher (6), Ryan Mountford (5), Sam Smith (4) and Mitchell Johnson (4) leading the way. Reynella shared the goals around with Robert Irra kicking four goals for the winners. Jonah Dolman kicked three goals for Morphett Vale. Dylan Roser continued his excellent season for the Wine Flies to be named their best player and he was well supported by Tyler Davies, Jason Farrier, Irra and Boyd Austin. The Cobras got off to a good start and took a handy 26-point lead into halftime. Aldinga battled hard in the second half but it was a bridge too far as Cove kept their home crowd happy as they won 7.8 (50) to 2.5 (17). Alesia Leduff kicked five goals for Cove in a best on ground display. She was ably supported by Lara Ward, Dana O’Brien, Jahna Perry and Seraphina Moon. Eilish O’Hanlon, Kiara Lovett, Ayla Regione, Amber O’Hanlon and Taeh Ferrari were named in the best players for Aldinga.Reynella continued their undefeated start to the season with a convincing 85-point win at home against Port Noarlunga. Mount Compass ended reigning premier Langhorne Creek’s unbeaten start to 2021 as they outlasted the Hawks to win by 19 points at Mount Compass during round five action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) on Saturday. The game was a low scoring affair with the Bulldogs kicking the only two goals of the opening term to lead by 10 points at quarter time. They extended their lead to a handy 19 points at halftime before turning for home with a 26-point buffer. Langhorne Creek kicked four goals to three in the final term but the home side won 9.11 (65) to 6.10 (46). On a tough day for the forwards, Tom Pinyon showed his class as he slotted four majors to give him a league-leading 27 goals after five rounds. David Warren was the only multiple goalkicker for the Hawks with two goals. Nick Mott was adjudged best player for the Bulldogs and he was ably supported by Ziggy Vitkunas, Matthew Skrypek, Corey Grove and Shane Heatley. Langhorne Creek was best served by Tom Derham, Matt Dominish, Brodie O’Dea, Curtis Perrey and Tyler Follett. Victor Harbor won their first game of the season after dominating the last quarter in their clash with Myponga/Sellicks to win by 23 points. Victor led by three points at quarter time, 14 points at halftime and by just five points at the last change. Spurred on by their home crowd, Victor Harbor kicked 4.1 to 1.1 in the final quarter to win 12.9 (81) to 9.4 (58). Sam Basham kicked four goals for the winners and Billy Wade chimed in with three. Sean Beath continued his excellent goalkicking form as he kicked six goals to give him 25 for the season. For the second week in a row, Cam Hutchens was best for Willunga. Brad Haskett, Beath, Billy Cook and Harrison Mills were also named in the Demons’ best players. McLaren started well to lead by 17 points at the first change before Encounter Bay fought back to trail by just three points at halftime. Both sides added five goals in a free-flowing third term as McLaren still led by three points with a quarter to play. In a thrilling final quarter, the Bays kicked four goals to three to win 14.10 (94) to 14.9 (93). Encounter Bay had nine different goal kickers with Gary Karpany and Tyson Neale kicking three goals each. Jordon Mutton had a day out as he kicked six majors for McLaren. Dudley United had the bye in round one and then had an excellent 84-point win over Parndana in round two. On Saturday they dominated, kicking a whopping 32.23 (215) to 6.6 (42). The Eagles had nine goalkickers, led by Kyron Pepper who slotted eight majors. He was well supported by Tjedan McKeown (5), Clayton Willson (5) and Troyston Corbett (4). Paul Green kicked three for Kingscote. McKeown, Brent Kirby, Pepper, Jack Gurney and Clayton Willson were best for a dominant Dudley united outfit. For Kingscote, Rory Lovering, Green and Anthony Anderson were among their best players.Wisanger remained undefeated and on top of the ladder as they disposed of Western Districts to the tune of 52 points at Wisanger on Saturday. Wisanger led by eight points at quarter time and theN opened the game up with a seven goal to three second term to take a handy 33-point lead to halftime. Mount Compass remained undefeated after six rounds of the Great Southern Football League Women’s (GSFLW) season as they ground out a tough 24-point win against Strathalbyn at McLaren Vale on Sunday. Strathalbyn led by four points at quarter time but Mount Compass took over for the final three quarters as they kicked five goals to one for the rest of the match to win 5.9 (39) to 2.3 (15). Megan Rich was the only multiple goalkicker for the game as she kicked both goals for Strath. For the third time in 2021, Amy Taylor was named best for Mount Compass and she was ably supported by Georgina Thomas, Heidi Smith, Demi Sharp and Emily Smith. Strathalbyn were best served by the consistent Tessa Smith, Indigo Miller, Emily Eglitis, Emma Chapman and Courtney Mesecke. Willunga held onto second spot on the ladder following a tough 15-point win against Goolwa/Port Elliot at Yankalilla. In a low scoring game, Willunga led by 14  points at halftime before winning 3.6 (24) to 1.3 (9). The ever-consistent Katrice Turner was named best for Willunga with Holly Ifould, Shae Archbold, Ella Radbone, Aleesha Smith and Ada Anninos were also named in the best players for Willunga who now boast a 5-1 record for the season.Yankalilla moved to fifth spot on the GSFLW ladder with a convincing 90-point win at home over bottom side Encounter Bay. Kimberly Robinson was a star for the Tigers with five goals while Jasmine Smith and Helen Maidment kicked two goals each. Nari Wright, Robinson, Colbie Frankland and Maidment were best for Yankalilla. Reynella and Christies Beach remain the only undefeated sides left in the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) competition after two rounds. Reynella had a convincing, albeit inaccurate, win against Hackham to the tune of 139 points at Reynella Oval. The Wine Flies led by 29 points at quarter time, 68 at halftime and 97 points at the last change before running out winners 19.25 (139) to 0.0 (0). Rebecca Denyer kicked six goals for Reynella and she was well supported by Georgia Pennifold (4), Caitlin Williams (2) and Emily Woods (2). Renee Wurfel, Pennifold, Allana Nimmo-Lyne, Sarah Bourn and Denyer were best for the dominant Reynella outfit. Hackham’s best were Alana Browne, Rachel Cole, Samara Paul, Kathryn Salter and Caitlin Haire.Christies Beach also had a big win as they accounted for Cove 8.10 (58) to 0.1 (1) at Bice Oval. The Saints led by 21 points at quarter time and extended their lead to a handy 35 points at the long break. A further three goals to none in the second half saw the final margin of 57 points in favour of Christies Beach. Reigning premier Langhorne Creek kept their unbeaten start to the 2021 Great Southern Football League (GSFL) season intact with a tight six-point win against McLaren at Langhorne Creek on Saturday. McLaren held sway in the first half as they opened up a 10-point lead at halftime. The Hawks came back into the contest with a five goal to two burst in the ‘premiership quarter’ as they turned for home with a nine-point lead. The Eagles had plenty of chances in the last quarter but could only manage 2.6 to the Creeks 2.3 as the home side hung on to win 11.11 (77) to 9.17 (71). Angus Lally kicked three goals for Langhorne Creek while Todd McKay, with two majors, was McLaren’s only multiple goalkicker. Alex Cleggett, Caleb Howell, James Sellar, Ben Arbon and Coby Helyar were named best players for the Hawks. Alex Moyle, McKay, Bryn Loots, Brett Ellis and Sam Lawrie were best for a gutsy McLaren outfit.Willunga had a massive percentage boosting 241-point win over Yankalilla at Willunga Oval as they stayed on top of the ladder through four rounds. The Demons kicked seven goals in the first term, a whopping 13 majors in the second, eight goals in the third and finished off the game with nine last quarter goals to win 37.30 (252) to 1.5 (11). Willunga had 14 different goalkickers including Tyson Hoffmann (7), Daniel Bass (4), Scott Hunt (4) and Cam Hutchens (4). Ben Gogel was Yankalilla’s sole goalkicker. Hutchens, Brain Fenton, Hoffmann, Sean Beath and Harrison Mills were best for the dominant Demons while for Yankalilla, Brad Thompson, Gogel and Joel Kay battled hard on a dirty day for the Tigers.Encounter Bay moved up to fourth spot on the GSFL ladder following a convincing 76-point win against Goolwa/Port Elliot. The Bays led by just one point at quarter time but completely dominated the second term to lead by 35 points at the long break. The Magpies came back in the third quarter as they kicked three goals to two but they still trailed by 30 points at three quarter time. It was all Encounter Bay in the last quarter as they kicked 7.5 to 0.1 to win 16.14 (110) to 5.4 (34). Tyson Neale kicked four goals for the Bays (17 for the season) and he was well supported by Lachlan Costello and Cohen Pettitt who kicked three goals each. Brayden Lane and Brock Godwin-Knott each kicked two majors for the Magpies. Pettitt, Andrew Fyfe, Lachlan Williams, Fraser Tonkin and Costello were best for Encounter Bay. James Fry, Aisea Raikiwasa and Dale Cuthbert were among Goolwa/Port Elliot’s best.Mount Compass continued their winning ways with a comfortable 69-point win at Victor Harbor. Tom Pinyon kicked six goals for the Bulldogs to take his season tally to 23 from just four games, while former Adelaide Crows player, Lewis Johnston, kicked three goals in a  best on ground performance. Other good players for Mount Compass were Ziggy Vitkunas, Nick Mott, Tomas Vitkunas and ruckman Peter Hoban. Sam Basham provided Victor with a target up forward as he slotted three goals. Zac Dowling, Brok Schubert, Seb Guilhaus, Billy Wade and James Boyd were best for Victor Harbor.Strathalbyn travelled to Myponga to take on the Mudlarks and emerged with a good 54-point win to sit just outside the top five on percentage. The Roosters opened up a match winning 43-point lead at halftime and extended their lead out to 65 points at three quarter time. Myponga/Sellicks battled the game out well to win the last quarter but Strathalbyn went on to win 13.15 (93) to 6.3 (39). Brodie Martin kicked three goals for Strath while Cam Vinall slotted two majors for the Mudlarks.
