Willunga and McLaren Districts did battle in a classic encounter as the minor round wrapped up in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) FPAG ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition. The two teams will clash again in the Qualifying Final next Sunday for a spot in the 2023 decider. On Friday night, Willunga came from 16 points down at halftime to triumph 4.7 (31) to 4.5 (29). It was the reigning premiers 10th consecutive win, with their only loss coming at the hands of McLaren Districts back in round four. Best players for the Demons were Ruby Thomas, Lauren Clifton, Tessa Kohn, Katrice Turner and Ada Anninos. McLaren Districts were best served by Sam Pratt, Ally Bailey, Gwen Humphreys, Katrina Munzberg and Emily Rowe, while Kiahni Russell kicked two goals for the Eagles.Goolwa/Port Elliot warmed up for finals action with a comfortable 36-point win against Myponga-Sellicks. The Magpies won every quarter on their way to a 6.6 (42) to 1.0 (6) triumph. Indi Miller kicked two goals for Goolwa/Port Elliot, while Meesha Parsons kicked the only goal for the Mudlarks. Best players for Goolwa/Port Elliot, who finished third on the ladder, included Tayla Hoad, Bridget Lindsay, Miller, Kalani Bates and Ellie Fry. The Mudlarks’ best were Nari Wright, Courtney Gum, Imogen Harney, Charlie Shaw-McMillan and Kailey Webb.Yankalilla/Encounter Bay finished the minor round in style today with a 75-point win against Victor Harbor at Yankalilla. The Saints led all day before running out winners 18.10 (118) to 1.8 (14). Lleyton Hedges kicked five goals for the Saints (38 for the season), while Josh Graham kicked three. Ben Xifaras kicked the only goal for Parndana. Caleb Whittle, Nathan Stock, Tim Larcombe, Wade Tucker and Brad Crabb were named best players for Western Districts. The Emus led at every change to win 10.15 (75) to 8.4 (52). Kim Kantilla, in his first game for the club, was the leading goalkicker on the ground with three goals for Morphett Vale. Andrew Crate, Rhys Mundy and Kane Blake kicked two goals each for the Saints. Best players for the Emus included Braydan Hartwig, Aiden Baker, Khori Mills-Richardson, Robert Schindler-Taylor and Connor Mulloy. Victor Harbor moved inside the top-three on the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) ladder following their 22-point win against Myponga-Sellicks this afternoon. After leading by just six points at halftime, the ‘Roos piled on five goals to one in the third quarter to take a handy 34-point lead at the last break. The Mudlarks won the last quarter, but it was all in vain as ‘Victor’ won 11.7 (73) to 8.3 (51). Jaid Cooper (4), Michael Ross (3) and Sam Basham (2) were the multiple goalkickers for the ‘Roos. Jake Spinks (3) and Jayden Scott (2) were the leading goalkickers for the Mudlarks. Best players for Victor Harbor included Jackson Elmes, Sam Overall, Jesse McKinnon, Zac Dowling and Matthew Wiese. Mason Middleton kicked nine goals in a best-on-ground performance for Encounter Bay, while skipper Tyson Neale kicked four goals. Finn Hayden and Ty Rigney were the goalscorers for the Magpies. McLaren Districts wrapped up the all-important double chance in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) FPAG ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition after defeating Goolwa/Port Elliot by 30 points at McLaren Vale on Sunday. The Eagles won every quarter before taking victory 6.5 (41) to 1.5 (11). Sally Fuller was the standout forward on the ground with four goals for McLaren Districts, while Kalani Bates was the sole goalkicker for the Magpies. Best players for McLaren Districts included Alycia Hepburn, Fuller, Emily Rowe, Ally Bailey and Katie Whish. Goolwa/Port Elliot were best served by Annabelle Mooney, Renee Moon, Indi Miller, Ellie Fry and Tamra Sanders. Yankalilla/Encounter Bay warmed up for the finals with a tight nine-point win against Myponga-Sellicks at Myponga last Friday night. The Stingrays got off to a fast start with the first three goals of the game to take an 18-point lead to the first break. Victor Harbor kept the pressure on for a top-three spot after defeating Strathalbyn by 34 points during round 12 action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) on Saturday. The win was set up by a blistering first term by the ‘Roos where they kicked seven unanswered goals to lead by 41 points at quarter time. Strathalbyn outscored ‘Victor’ for the rest of the match but the damage had been done as the ‘Roos won 18.11 (119) to 13.7 (85). Jackson Elmes, Daniel Stock and Michael Ross all kicked four goals for Victor Harbor, while Jake Stafford and Jacob Wright kicked three goals apiece for the Roosters. Best players for ‘Victor’ included Matthew Wiese, Sam Overall, Elmes, Rhys Mutch and Reece Kleinig. Strathalbyn was best served by Marc Elliott, Adam Clark, Stafford, Cooper Machin and Wright.After their first loss since 2021 last week, McLaren Districts were back in the winners circle after beating Langhorne Creek by 18 points. The Vikings didn’t lie down, kicking five goals to one in the final term, to record a great comeback win 10.14 (74) to 10.8 (68). Corey Grocock and Nathan May kicked two goals each for Happy Valley, while Oliver Petrohilos slotted five majors for Port Noarlunga. Best players for the Vikings included Harry Vick, May, Hayden Kari, Tain Smelt and Jack Flett. Jessica Harris, Lauren Clifton, Tamara Page, Sarah Wright and Ellen Tyminski all kicked two goals for Willunga, as did Kailey Webb for the Mudlarks.
