Mount Lofty has all but booked their ticket to finals action this season after defeating Aldgate by 16 runs during round 13 action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) at Aldgate yesterday. The Redcaps batted first and were in a bit of trouble early as they slipped to 3/55 before Ryan Pistola joined Adam Carthew at the crease. This pair added 100 runs for the fourth wicket before Pistola went for 67 from 68 balls (9 x 4’s, 4 x 6’s). Carthew went on to register his third half century of the season, with 52 from 59 balls (5 x 4’s, 1 x 6). Tim Noble (26 not out) and Peter Giannes (13 not out) made handy contributions at the end as Mount Lofty finished on 8/225 from their 45 overs. Felix Farmer (2/32) and Shaun Atkins (2/37) were the multiple wicket takers for the ‘Gaters’. The Aldgate run chase started in similar fashion with the home side in strife at 3/41 as Frank Clements joined Atkins. This would be the key partnership of the game, but when Atkins went for 47 off 32 balls (5 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s), Mount Lofty were well on top. Clements went on to make 48 off 43 balls (4 x 4’s, 4 x 6’s) before being dismissed with the score at 7/128. Teenager Farmer battled hard and eventually top scored with his maiden ‘A’ grade half century (51 not out from 62 balls) as Aldgate were bowled out in the 44th over for 209. Five Bridgewater bowlers took wickets with Liam Risson the standout with 4/11 (6.3). Jarrad Tait bowled a miserly spell to finish with 2/8 (9), while Luke Hoyle snared 2/13 (5). The wicket of Pick precipitated a collapse of 6/26 as the Eagles reached 9/152 with last man Ethan Penck joining veteran Julian Zytnik with scores tied. Penck held his nerve, scoring a boundary off the first ball he faced to get his side over the line. Bridgewater started their run chase in disastrous fashion as they slumped to 4/18, with Carthew doing most of the damage with 3/15 (6). The Redbacks batted first and compiled what appeared a competitive total of 9/165 from their 45 overs. The innings was underpinned by a patient half century from Tom Filsell (50 from 106 balls). Tom Keough (25), Kieran O’Connell (20), David Caddle (19), and Josh Lewis-Burns (19) also made handy contributions. Veteran Ben Warren wound back the clock to snare 5/28 from his nine over spell. Langhorne Creek wasted no time in knocking off the total with Brodie O’Dea (52 from 59 balls), James Dawson (48 not out from 62 balls), and Jordan Whiting (32 from 26 balls) doing the damage for the Tigers as the winning runs were brought up with 20 overs to spare. Reigning premier Lobethal remained in second spot on the AEHCA ladder following a thrilling five-run win against local rival Woodside. The Tigers batted first with skipper Mitch Weeks leading from the front with a top-scoring knock of 67 from 76 balls (8 x 4’s, 1 x 6). Daniel Norsworthy made 37 (65 balls) and Matt Martin added a handy 21 (22 balls) down the order as Lobethal reached 184 before being bowled out in the 39th over. Shane Druwitt was the pick of the Warriors’ bowlers with the fine figures of 4/17 (7). Nick Johns (2/33), Jacob Moller (2/47), and Jeremy Druwitt (1/13) were the other wicket takers. Woodside got off to a disastrous start in the run chase with both openers back in the shed with the score at 2/1, before Tommy Baldock (15) and Dave Wescombe (29) joined with Brad Collins to get the Warriors back on track at 3/87. A middle order collapse of 3/2 once again put Lobethal back on top as Collins continued his defiant knock. Jeremy Druwitt chimed in with an important knock of 33 (56 balls) as he and Collins added 56 runs for the seventh wicket before Collins went for 76 (103 balls). Lobethal held their nerve to restrict Woodside to 9/179. Weeks completed a fine all-round double as he took 3/40 (9), while Cam Winen bowled a miserly spell of 2/15 (8). Ladder - after round 11Langhorne Creek 40, Lobethal 30, Nairne 28, Strathalbyn 24, Macclesfield 22, Bremer/Callington 18, Woodside 12, Hahndorf 2. Round 12 fixtures (14/1/23) - home team named firstHahndorf v WoodsideLobethal v Bremer/CallingtonMacclesfield v NairneStrathalbyn v Langhorne Creek

Shoes close in on top-two in Great Southern Cricket

10 January 2023, 6:00 AM

Noarlunga pulled off a come-from-behind 15-run win over Port Elliot to move within touching distance of a top-two spot during round eight action in the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) on Saturday. The Shoes batted first on their home deck and got off to a good start through David Scarff and Danny Irvine, who added 64 runs for the first wicket, before Irvine went for 29. David Scarff went on to top score with 44 (5 x 4’s), while Jason Scarff made 23, as Noarlunga finished with 8/136. Simon Donaldson (4/23) and Chris O’Connor (3/28) were the multiple wicket takers for Port Elliot. The visitors started their run chase in good fashion as they reached 2/90 at the drinks break. Skipper Joel Harris (37) and O’Connor (27) led the way, but it was Noarlunga skipper Jason Scarff doing the damage with 4/21 from his eight overs, as the Bloods started to falter. Jamie Keers then wiped out the tail with 4/3 (3.5) as Port Elliot finished on 9/121 with the Bloods’ Seb Goldsmith unable to bat through injury.Mount Compass pulled off an amazing one-run victory against reigning premier Willunga in a low scoring game at Willunga. ‘Compass’ batted first and struggled their way through to the 36th over before being bowled out for 73. Scott McAvaney (15), Paul Barrett (14), and James Colley (12) were the only Mount Compass batsmen to reach double figures as five batsmen failed to bother the scorers. Willunga’s Simon Roberts had the incredible figures of 4/5 from eight overs (five maidens), while Rory Hanson took 3/4 (1.5). The Demons run chase started poorly as they slipped to 5/37 before James Whetstone (18) and Charles Papworth (14) led a recovery as Willunga reached 7/71, with just three runs required for victory. In a dramatic finish, the last three wickets fell for just one run to give the Bulls an amazing victory by the barest of margins. Joel Webber (2/8) and Josh Dalitz (2/8) were good contributors for ‘Compass’ with the ball, but it was skipper Aaron Dalitz who did all the damage. The big quick rattled Willunga with the amazing figures of 5/6 from 6.2 overs. Goolwa continued their undefeated season with a comfortable eight-wicket win against Aldinga. Aldinga batted first with Brenton Averats (14) the only batsman to reach double figures as they were bowled out for 63. Shaun Burger (4/6), Andy Evans (3/15), Jayden Crees (2/11), and Kingsley Vincent (1/21) were the wicket takers for the Magpies. Goolwa wasted no time in the run chase with Luke Giddings (13) and the returning Jesse Consalvo (42) adding 52 runs for the first wicket as the winning runs came up in the 17th over. Wade Sutherland was the successful bowler for Aldinga with 2/5 (2).McLaren Districts consolidated their spot in the top-6 with a hard-fought eight-run win against Yankalilla. McLaren Districts batted first and it was a real team effort as they posted a competitive 8/156 from their 40 overs. Zac Hodges top scored with 36 from 67 balls and he was well supported by Ben Worrall (23) and Charl Van Wyk (20). Five Yankalilla bowlers took wickets with Aaron Smith (2/26), Ashley Madden (2/26), and Scott Wilson (2/39) leading the way. Yankalilla got off to a shaky start in the run chase, slipping to 3/36, before Aaron Smith joined Martin Sumner in a third wicket stand worth 80 runs until Smith departed for 57 from 66 balls (6 x 4’s, 1 x 6). Sumner eventually went for 27 (58 balls) as ‘Yank’ were put under pressure by the Crushers’ bowlers to eventually finish on 9/148, just short of victory. Skipper Luke Goodieson (4/29) and Keith Schofield (3/25) led the way with the ball for McLaren Districts.Encounter Bay won their fourth game of the season following their 38-run home win against Myponga-Sellicks. The Bays batted first and were under pressure as they slumped to 5/64, before Sam Hoffmann was joined by Zac Thompson. This pair added 58 runs for the sixth wicket before Thompson was dismissed for 20 (28 balls). Hoffmann was the standout for the home side as he finished on 94 not out (116 balls) with his knock including 10 boundaries and two sixes. It was a good recovery from the Bays as they finished on 9/173 from their 40 overs. Four Mudlarks’ bowlers took wickets with Euan Maclachlan the standout with 4/25 (8). He was well supported by Ryan Haverty who snared 3/41 (6). After losing Sean Haverty (0) early, Ryan Haverty and Bradley Hill put together a handy 63-run partnership for the second wicket which was broken when Hill went for 16 (51 balls). Ryan Haverty continued on to top score with 61 from 92 balls (7 x 4’s), but he received little support as the visitors were bowled out in the final over for 135. All six Encounter Bay bowlers took wickets with Kieran Garrett (3/18), Chris Butler (2/12), and Thompson (2/34) the multiple wicket takers.Ladder - after round 8Goolwa 52, Port Elliot 40, Noarlunga 37, McLaren Districts 37, Encounter Bay 31, Myponga-Sellicks 24, Yankalilla 15, Willunga 12, Mount Compass 12, Aldinga 0.Round 9 fixtures (14/1/23 - home team named first)Yankalilla v NoarlungaAldinga v WillungaMyponga-Sellicks v Port ElliotEncounter Bay v Mount CompassGoolwa v McLaren Districts

Bridgewater won their second game of the season with an upset nine-wicket victory over Aldgate during round 11 action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) on Saturday. The ‘Gaters’ batted first and were off to a good start with Josh Callaghan (29) and Shaun Atkins (28) adding 56 runs for the first wicket. Teenager Charlie Morbey was next man in and he also scored 29 (61 balls), but he had very little support as Aldgate lost their last 7/15 to be bowled out for 114 in the 37th over. Left-arm spinner Justin Summerill was the destroyer with figures of 5/18 from seven overs. Peter Atkins (2/7) and Jarrad Tait (2/17) were the other multiple wicket takers for the Raiders. Bridgewater wasted no time in the run chase as veteran Luke Hoyle smashed a quickfire 78 not out from 56 balls (8 x 4’s, 6 x 6’s), and added 82 runs for the second wicket with Will Fearnhead (21 not out), as the Raiders brought up the win in the 18th over. Morbey was the only wicket taker for Aldgate with 1/61 (5.1). It was a game of two collapses as Mylor hosted Scott Creek Ironbank (SCIB), with the visitors coming out on top by 15 runs. SCIB batted first and got themselves in a great position at 1/85 as Adam Shearwood (42) and Tom Watton (31) added 65 runs for the second wicket. The loss of Watton precipitated a dramatic collapse of 9/31 with the visitors being dismissed for just 116 in the 41st over. Skipper Michael Warburton was the main destroyer for Mylor with 4/14 (9). He was well supported by Alan Cooper (3/26) and Matthew Steadman (2/21). Mylor were cruising at 1/79 and a second win on the trot seemed a certainty, as Adrian Gaunt (53) and Shane Maslin (22) added 76 for the second wicket. What followed was a stunning collapse as the ‘Pipers’ lost their last nine wickets for just 22 runs to be bowled out in the 28th over for 101. Beau Thomas went through the Mylor tail like a ‘dose of Epsom Salts’ as he snared 5/5 from a devastating spell of 4.5 overs! Aaron Thompson (2/21) and Daniel Desengo (2/29) were the other multiple wicket takers for Scott Creek Ironbank.Meadows moved up to second spot on the ladder with a hard-fought six-wicket victory over reigning premier Stirling. The Eagles batted first with Daniel ‘Speedy’ Gonzalez and Jack Read adding 69 for the first wicket before Read was dismissed for 41 (42 balls) in the 14th over. Gonzalez continued on to top score with 64 from 78 balls (7 x 4’s, 1 x 6), but he received very little support as Stirling were bowled out in the 41st over for 167. A couple of ‘unsung heroes’ did all the damage for Meadows with Ryan Clarke (4/23) and David Bates (3/31) snaring seven Stirling wickets between them. Brad Louch chimed in with 2/12 (5). Meadows were in early trouble at 2/21, before Luke Tonkin (44) and Marko Kovac (16) combined for a 62-run third wicket partnership. Once Tonkin and Kovac were dismissed, Meadows were on the back foot at 4/95 as veteran Haydn Reid was joined at the crease by Clarke in the 31st over. This pair kept the scoreboard ticking over until five runs were required by the Bulldogs off the last over to win. Scores were level with two balls remaining as Haydn Reid hit a boundary off the penultimate ball of the innings to wrap up a very important victory. Reid finished with 52 not out (69 balls), while Clarke ended up with 23 not out (33 balls). Charlie Fryer took 2/35 for Stirling.Kangarilla now sit just percentage outside the top-four after a tight seven-run win at home against Uraidla. ‘Kangies’ batted first and posted a solid 6/171 from their 45 overs. Lachlan Knight continued his good season with a top-scoring 55 (94 balls). He received good support from Carlos Venter (25), Ryan Grimmond (25), and Ben Evans (22). Daniel McDonough was the pick of the Uraidla bowlers with figures of 3/23 from seven overs. Uraidla got themselves into a good position as Peter Wilson and Jay Temme (18) put on 68 for the second wicket with the visitors reaching 1/96 in the 30th over until Wilson was dismissed for 63 from 103 balls (5 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s). Regular wickets continued to fall with Baxter Knuckey, in his first ‘A’ grade game for the season, claiming 4/24 (9).
